  • The best variation of the Destroy ending: Reapers and synthetics are destroyed, Earth is saved, Shepard survives.
    By no means, is this ending the "best" or even good. They're all terrible, really. Please let BioWare know that these endings are unacceptable.
    I had ~7200 War Assets/Effective Military Strength (100% Readiness rating through multiplayer). Imported save; RPG mode.

    Protheans had a faction that wanted to control the Reapers, turns out they were indoctrinated. Illusive Man got indoctrinated and he wanted to control the Reapers. What makes you think that they're not playing tricks on Shepard? Everyone of them somehow got convinced that they can control the Reapers and look what it did to them. After all humanity went through, deciding to control them is too risky. Destroying is the best decision. I wouldn't trust this catalyst hologram no matter what.

      +The boy is an unknown figure, it is negitive to the opinion on total destruction on the reapers. And is supportive of anything besides that. And we really dont even know who really made him, he could be an illusion made by the reapers for shepard. This "figure" speaks bad about total destruction of the reapers as if it doesnt solve anything for the far future. His words almost wipe your memory of everything that occurred before all this, what really happen for you to get there. It's almost like all the effort from the other games is darken by the moment. The death and frustration all to end the reapers and restore long lasting peace becomes bland. That was always the plan! Right!? It should ever change! Especially by some holographic boy that was made by people who died thousand years ago who never had hope. It's as almost as the boy controls shepard but it's up to you if you would allow that. As shepard said to the illusive man, "You've spent to much time with enemy that they've turned you into them". The boy was the speaker for the reapers, the reapers are the enemy and he spook there tongue to shepard. NEVER GROW CLOSE TO THE ENEMY OR LISTEN TO THE ENEMY!

    Or... Sheppard simply survived the explosion from the shooting the power conduit and his body survived re-entry. That theory makes just as much sense. The Citadel wasn't completely blown to bits, meaning if Sheppard could've been protected by the Citadel during re-entry, thus surviving.
    The "breathing/waking up" scene suggests that he simply regained conciousness after having a fairly big explosion in his face and crashing down from orbit in parts of the Citadel.

    I agree with a lot of people here. This is the only ending that makes sense, even without the Indoctrination theory. If you wanna' be a renegade, shoot the starchild (Harbringer) and say 'Fuck it, I'm out.'
    Otherwise, sacrifices have to be made. You're doing what you've always come there to do. Why would you take control of the Reapers like the IM wanted, when he was so obviously indoctrinated? Why would you do what the Reapers always wanted and link everyone when they have been committing genocide for generations?
    What Anderson wanted, what you wanted, was to destroy the Reapers. So do it.
    Some people think the Geth and EDI don't die, and it's a Reaper lie. I don't know if this is the case but even if they do have to die, It's just one of those heart-wrenching sacrifices Bioware always include to be emotional.

With the reaper being destroyed and their whole tech is decimated, who will rebuild the whole relays? The united galaxy once more separated.

  • @zsoltschmidt8438
    @zsoltschmidt8438 7 лет назад +135

    I think destruction is the best ending. The whole point is to liberate the galaxy from the reapers, which you can only do this way.
    Choosing control is like trying to tame a shark, someone's gonna end up dead, in this case the whole galaxy.
    Synthesys results in an unnatural peak of evolution (in my opinion) and also the reapers survive too.
    Defiance is just giving up, passing the choice to the next cycle, and the reapers also survive.
    Also I'd like to point out that the reapers are neither good nor evil. They're a means to an end, tools for the AI created by an ancient race (the Leviathans) with one single purpose: the preservation of organic life. The motive behind this was that they assumed, and exprerienced in many cases that "lesser" species build synthetics which then destroyed them. They concluded that machines necessarily will rebel against they creators and ultimately wipe out all organic life. To prevent this they created said Intelligence to find a solution to this, which it did: the Reapers. This AI then used them to create the Citadel and the mass relays to direct the way of evolution in the galaxy, to control it and this way sustain organic life. Doing this by wiping out all organics and synthetics at a certain level of evolution and leaving primitive species alone, this way eventually preventing machines from eliminating all organic life. "The galaxy became an experiment, evolution it's tool."
    And the solution works! Organic life is "saved" over and over again.
    BUT, the AI's purpose is built on the false assumption that organics and synthetics will necessarily war with each other, which is just not true. That you can prove by making peace between the geth and quarians. Peace is possible between the two.
    Yes, with destruction the geth perish, all synthetics just vanish, but they will be created again and now with the knowledge that peace is possible and in a galaxy free of the Reapers and the AI's false "solution".

    • @Shadowhunterbg
      @Shadowhunterbg 7 лет назад +36

      Just because you choose Destroy doesn't mean that you don't care about the Geth or EDI. Kaidan/Ashley dies, Mordin dies too, that doesn't mean that i don't miss them. EDI also clearly said that she was ready to die for the cause just like Shepard.
      "The Reapers must be defeated not because they threaten us with death but because the threat of death makes us die inside." Meaning that the very existence of the Reapers is wrong and she wants them gone forever.
      "It is the right of sapient beings to live freely and securely and that is worth dying for."
      The geth refused to make any compromise with the Reapers refusing ascention and offer of technology, the human race (Shepard) also refused ascention and Reaper technology and for that the geth admired them and like Legion said "You are more like us than we though. The Reapers offered us a future, the geth will build their own future."
      Synthesis is a choice that the geth would never choose and Control is an offer of technology while keeping the influence of the Reapers forever shaping our future just like the A.I. wants, all races forever living beneath it's shadow. The geth wouldn't want that too.
      Destroy is a choice the geth would almost definetly choose although it ends them it preserves their believes that everyone should be free to shape their own future without any external "godly" foreign influence.
      "There will be no more compromise with the Old Machines." - Geth Prime
      I will make no compromise too.

      the point of the reapers was, this was always gonna happen. You destroy the reapers, the geth, the whatever. Then in 500,000 years the new sythetics will be waging war on the organics. destroy only delays another cycle for just a little bit longer.

      But they are actually not stuck in the sol system. The dialogue between the child and the man after the credits proves that. Not knowing how is a little bit frustrating because the mass effect universe always seemed to be authentic and logical. But all the players who do not sympathize with this ending should not forget: the whole game is about defending free will of the organics. You could say the star child is somehow an inkarnation of god showing us what would happen if the organics did not have their free will. It's like the star child claiming "you as organics always want me as god to do something against chaos and pain. This is my solution. And you are still not pleased?"
      You fight for uniting the galaxy, accepting the mistakes of other people or the culture of other races and protecting the free will of organic beings. The dialogue after the credits proves that they are not stuck in the sol system. You don't need to know why they are not stuck because it doesn't matter at all. The ending is just a symbol for a new beginning. Just listen to shepard when you pick the refusal ending and accept that destroying the reapers is the best choice. It is what it is and i love it :)

      Get more score (war assets, don't remember xactly how it's called here), with the highest even Shepard is hinted to survive the explosion (a bit different movie). It's IMPOSSIBLE without iOS (mobile) crap so use cheats with the light heart. 7000+ war assets or 10 000 would do the trick. That's xactly what I did in order to be able to see the real ending at least without byuing iPhone and their crap. Go to hell with that idea, Bioware, really, cheats aren't THAT bad as this.
      I'm generally against using cheats, but with that... Let's unleash the hell on earth and turn that damn "game" into CHEATFEST.

      +Taylor O'Dell Sounds to me like you have a really really low war asset rating.
      Lie to the Salarian Daletress about curing the genophage to get her fleet, then cure the Krogans. With enough speech checks (and I think the me2 loyalty missions) you can have Legion upload the reaper code, and talk the Quarians into standing down. They ally and do some amazing stuff.
      Listen to anyone in the Citadel who is having a random conversation, they add collection quests to get artifacts from random worlds. These, along with the random ships you can find on some worlds can account for something like 1k war asset when combined.
      Check the specter room in the embassies, missed quest items and certain useful authorizations can be acquired, an example is you can choose whether or not to allow the PTSD Asari in the hospital to have a gun after you hear her entire story.
      With multiplayer you can raise your war readiness to 100%, and need only 4k to get the "best" endings possible, without you need 8k. However I think even 2.5k/5k would get you a non kill everyone ending. Not sure, never had below 3k.

    How would i finish the trilogy? Uploaded the geth-EDI-quarian-modified-super-virus in the central hub of citadel, watch the kid screams in not-so-sweet-voice, grab the astro gear, or EVA suit (or something like that) and jump into the space, where Normandy could pick me up. No more reapers, everybody lives, shepard finished what he fought for. United Galaxy lives on! or i would make EDI , though sad version :( sacrifice herself to implement herself into the reaper system, and shut everything down, thus proving the ultimate sacrifice one A.I. could do, honoring the Legion too.
    anyway
    I wasn't sure which path to go next, so i just turned right and shot at the circuit, thought i would do some damage to the "child" and had back to the left and then to the center ray :D ... it appeared that it is Destroy ending.. :( it is really a bullshit ending, don't know what BioWare thought and made this ending.. 2 weeks, i played 1,2,3 parts just so they give me this ending? I watched all different endings (Ext.Cut) and red countless commentaries about what is "right to choose" and... if that was my decision in real life, maybe i would choose synthesys..after all, i don't want reapers to exist in such way, my friends and all of the galaxy to live on, both EDI and the Geth.. and when she said I AM ALIVE, i felt some chills..

      mini2239 flying the reapers into a star like vy canis majoris or NML cygni would do it, but what I'd rather do is fly the reapers to a system with no organics or synthetics and let the fight each other to the death. But the indoctrination theory made me think that maybe control won't actually allow Shepard to control.
      What I wanted was Shepard alive and the reapers dead, but I wanted the geth and EDI alive. Most people also want the exact same thing, even in controlling all reapers to die leaves Shepard unable to use his/her original body so I count that as a death. Everybody really hates the three endings indoctrination theory or not.

  • @ShawndaPrawn
    @ShawndaPrawn 3 года назад +4

    The catalyst claimed that destroying the Reapers would kill all synthetic life, and that Shepherd would die as well thanks to their cybernetics. Yet Shepherd is evidently still alive after the ‘destroy’ ending.
    Sovereign told Saren that the Reapers would spare those who submitted and obeyed. It lied. The Illusive Man thought he could control the Reapers because he was indoctrinated. In other words, the Reapers lied to him. The Humans responsible for the Project believed the Reapers were benevolent, as they were indoctrinated and effectively lied to. The Reapers used indoctrinated Protheans (the proto-Collectors) to infiltrate and kneecap the Protheans from within. Put simply, the Reapers are liars.
    Conclusion/headcanon: the catalyst was lying. EDI and the Geth were unaffected by the Crucible wave. The Catalyst just made up that part to discourage Shepherd from doing it. The Reapers have something to gain from the other endings.

  • @Specopleader

    Who you replied to doesn't seem to get the gist of this conflict in Mass Effect. But keep in mind of natural ethics that affect organic life. If the Geth were not in conflict with the Quarians and they were eventually as intelligent or more intelligent and more capable in many aspects, they are potentially dangerous if a future conflict does arise. That is the fear of AI/synthetics(Reapers anyone?).

  • @CristuelCasto

    I think destroying them is, overall, the best course of action available here, even if that is, basically, unknowable. Because there is no guarantee, at the time the choice is being made, that the Catalyst is not actually another, skilled manipulator just like the Illusive Man, but several orders of magnitude higher. So seeing the possibility (however slim, since the commander does not know how to operate it, nor can (s)he count on the assistance of EDI) of demise at the hands of Shepard, he (hypothetically) decides to risk everything, and say that controlling them is the only possible solution. In the Extended, "Controlled" ending, Shepard says he now knows what it is to be immortal and infinite; however, nothing says he is not under the effects of some stimulant provided by the Reapers or simply overwhelmed by a totally different kind of powerful stimuli. But somewhere before the ending, it is said by EDI or someone else that a larger, eery pattern seems to emerge in the way Reapers operate...which may or may not be attributable to the Catalyst. But discounting the Catalyst, it may be that he and the Reapers themselves are just the servants of a higher, more remote power. And that, by extension, Shepard becomes Indoctrinated, or even THE Indoctrinated, once he accepts to take over the Reapers. So temporarily controlling the Reapers (before that more remote power comes into play again and issues a possible, final directive)...may not be the ideal solution. And destroying them could still be mitigated by studying the remnants of Reaper technology, and other artifacts. Plus the Catalyst himself concedes that Shepard's presence alters some variables and the core premise upon which they operated. So, fuck the Reapers. But ultimately, I think this is all unknowable, the game itself does not present enough data to make an informed decision. I think both choices come down to personal preference, with destruction being the preferred one, since what happens at a higher order of things and cannot really be understood is really...probably not morally relevant at the human (or any other) scale. Nothing you'd probably be able to do against the force governing the strange, emerging pattern anyway.

    Well it's still "life" that you can save, but it's really matter of opinion :) i think the major problem of endings is that they don't really show consequence of your decision, most odd is "control", you have 0 idea what you actually order them to do, is control only momental or permanent? If it's permanent it actually can be lighter version of destroy, if you keep them away forever or even extinct them, organics still can create synthetics, but old synthetic life still exists.

  • @ShadowriverUB
    @ShadowriverUB 12 лет назад

    It really does not matter if Saren think the same, or else being half human half machine have some bad side effects, this ending actually end the whole synthetic vs organic conflict that bring pain to this universe. If what Catalyst is saying is true, the whole conflict was big misunderstanding and Reapers are just a tool and in end it's not matter if they alive or not, there reason of existence is ended. Again, do Shepard life and mindless revenge is worth life of synthetics?

    Then you don't know that much about sci fi. Most sci fi universes are built logically within their own logic and possibilies established over the time. For example, much of the ME technology works with the element zero. This ending abandonds everything, begins with simple stuff like: Why would someone shoot a machine's tube to activate it?! up to things like how your crew got to the Normany, no logical explanation. And a deus ex machina in a case like this is an unforgiveable literaric mistake.

  • @SevereArtisan
    @SevereArtisan 12 лет назад

    That's another good reason. There's also the fact that Shepard's armor is all busted up. And come to think of it, the people representing the endings? The endings represent their goals: Saren wanted coexistence between organics and synthetics, Illusive Man wanted to control Reapers, and Anderson wanted to destroy Reapers. By choosing an ending, you're fulfilling that person's goals. And which one is the only one who wasn't your enemy? Anderson.

    Well right now, I pray that the Indoctrination Theory is actually correct, because it is undeniably a really great explanation and just fills in the gaps really well. Everything just really adds up. Shepard is only human after all, so he can definitely get indoctrinated. Maybe it's true, or maybe we're just grasping at straws because of the shock of the ending. But without the Theory, we wouldn't really have any hope for a better ending. Just my two cents.

    Bear in mind that at the time the extended cut didn't exist. As far as we were aware, the mass relays had all gone supernova and destroyed the galaxy. It's easy to look back now and see common sense but for the fans that had devoted 5 years and 100 hours of gameplay into this franchise, the ending was a kick in the balls. At the time that is. Now it's just funny.

    In a way it didn't destroy the galaxy, All of the mass relays are gone, That means the entire victory fleet is still at the sol system, The entire geth flotilla was there. How are they going to get back? How are the krogans,turians,batarians,elcor, The asari How are they gong to get back? Bear in mind the turains can't even eat the same food as the rest of the races.

    But in the end, Shepard's still human. A human who has seen and done amazing things, and like you said, become a icon, but in the end, still a human. But indeed, Shepard is epic :D. As said, I really hope the Indoctrination theory really does end up being true. It would probably be the biggest plot twist by far in the history of video games.

    im fed up with people saying how the ending of mass effect 3 is rubbish and it could have been better. at the end of the day bioware are absolutly brilliant and making this third game so emotional and powerful. so all you haters can jog on because there is no doubt bioware have done it again, and theres no doubt that it will get game of the year again, well done bioware.

    Well I guess he realized it was pretty much the end for him (even if he survived the explosion, he was already horribly injured, prolly would of bled out before anyone found him) and decided "To hell with it. Might as well get closer for a better shot". Remember, one of his arms was really messed up, his aim was likely greatly affected.

    Yeah that's true someone else could have went to open it. But it is odd that they wouldn't include it in the game. Doesn't this also mean that Anderson and TIM aren't necessarily dead? The whole ending in general just confuses me, but I think the part that makes the least sense if the Normandy crash scene. That doesn't really make sense in any scenario...

    I know that how it had to be. I have hear others say that it do. but that never made sense to me anyway . I never expected to him to kill himself if I didn't have 100% P/R I'm not that crazy! LOL . I would like to thank you for your time my game is just bug but I steal like it a lot GOOD BYE.

    Shepard could die easily from being shot with bullets in the gameplay. How the hell could he survive re-entry if he's not impervious to bullets? Hell, he's missing CHUNKS of his armor in the end---including his helmet! How'd he survive re-entry....and breathe in space?

    II was originaly going to destroy them but I didnt want to destroy all of galactic civilization while I was at it pluss I liked the geth and EDI to much to kill them outright so I picked control and hoped I could just fly all the reapers into the sun without killing pretty much everybody.
