Thank you for the trip down memory lane Mr Less. I’ve plowed many many acres with a 4455 MFWD and a John Deere 2810 5 - 16’s. moldboard plowing is kind of a lost art these days. I love moldboard plowing
Thank you so much! I plowed long time ago, as I lay here in the rest home I close my eyes I can smell that dirt and diesel and feel that tractor pull….I play it over n over
New Garden is what got my attention…I’m about two miles away from that field and it’s good to see it being farmed again….it hasn’t gotten a lot of attention the past few years!
Thanks so much for the video, Mike, I've been waiting for some new tillage videos, and you're the first! We had a 4430, new in '75, that tractor dyno'd at 155 hp, we ran it for 22 years before we sold out. Looks like that 4630 could've pulled another bottom, or even two on that kind of beautiful land, but still great to see somebody running a mouldboard
Dad and I had a 4630 that we pulled an on-land 6/16 John Deere plow in the early 70's. This in Western Iowa hill country, slopes of up to 15 degrees!!! Up and over!
Allis 7045 and this JD is what I think about when I think about the old school American tractors (I’m from Europe). What a special video this is I love it!
You can bet your ass the farmer enjoyed running this little powerhouse Deere up and down the field in the sun! Beautiful maintained Deere I’m actually a bit jealous 🤠
Love the video Mike. I grew running one of those as well as the 4030 we still have on the farm today. Potatoes ,winter wheat and triticale are all planted out here in Eastern Washington. Weather is getting better . Take care Mike keep those videos coming and I hope one day to get to show you around out here in my neck of the woods
Great job Mike ,I've been watching scratching my head how you can avoid the pattern of five furrows next to five each bout. It's often caused by oversized tractor tyres squashing the last furrow. Not the case with your set up. I know it's splitting hairs but it's always nice to not be able to see how many bottom plough was used . Ps not a criticism. Just an observation ,👍
Ah, because this practice got gradually replaced by articulated four-wheel-drive tractors and high-speed tillage equipment, which can cover more ground and faster due to larger tools and more traction to pull them.
What was he pulling 5 16s or 5 18s? I still plow but old hay ground alfelfa fields, he wouldnt be pulling it that fast in my heavy clay alfelfa ground.
Those areas where he was skipping are waterways/low areas where water would run after a big rain and by leaving that untouched will help with erosion of the soil.
This is what the government needs to let ever farmer do one of these days the ground is gonna get packed so tight from no tilling it and running over it with all the equipment that nothing is gonna grow but the state and the government don't think about that shit
Loved the video! 👍👍I've held off on saying anything for a long time, but I hate that awful youtube music. I'd much rather watch in silence or listen to dubbed in sounds than that stuff. I know I can turn the sound down, but then I never know when and where you are coming back on to tell something interesting again, so I leave the sound on.
Those sections left are referred to as a water way. If the field would get a heavy rain the water would run fast to that spot left and this will slow down or stop erosion
that guy must be late for his dinner. that outfit sure is speeding across the field . Why all of the square patches left not plowed. ? what's the reason.
Whit your not plowing whit a reverse plow ???y like your y like this old tractor ?y make il news cilender ! This ise the problème off this série y hope you have water this sommer ?????amitié marc
Depth and soil type determine resistance. I have pulled 6-18 at 6+mph in muck soils, 7-8 in. The same tractor, 4630, hfwd, dyno. 175hp. hard pulling in the fall on heavy gumbo soils, 9-11 in. deep.
John what do you mean you're not Impressed? The only reason I made this video was to impress you and now I feel like it was all for nothing. All kidding aside growing up we was always borderline on tractor power for the implement we were pulling and now I sure like like having more tractor than implement so you can just move along and not have to max out the tractor.

It sure is nice to remember the past.
Love your videos, Mike.
Take care, Mike. God bless.

I’m a Red Power fan but always liked these series of John Deere’s, easy to use and comfortable to run.
I live in upstate NY and watch MikeP. Good channel
Great video Mike. Gotta love seeing the moldboard plow turn the dirt over. Thanks for the shout out!
I can remember back in the early 70's driving a 5020 with a john deere 7 bottom. What a horse especially for a high school kid.
This is what I remember growing up. We had a 6 bottom plow on a 1066 IH and plowed a lot of acres. 👍
High school worked for custom farmer, he had a 1206 and pulled 6 bottom plow.
New Garden is what got my attention…I’m about two miles away from that field and it’s good to see it being farmed again….it hasn’t gotten a lot of attention the past few years!

Good looking old school Deere. Nice sounding too. It's pulling that plow without much problem. Very cool Mike! 👍🏻 😊
That fella was flat getting after it! That 4630 was hauling doing great burying that trash.
Nice 4630, thanks for posting Mike!
Old iron. Love it
Grew up on alis Chalmers and case.😊
Nothing wrong with older equipment, that’s what we still run, that looks great 👍. Hardly anyone plows their fields here in north central Indiana
Agree! Hardly anyone here in Angola Indiana plows anymore
@@featheredcoyote5477 ok 👍
Can’t wait for the 88 series plowin, nice lookin 4630 always enjoyed plowing
Thanks Mike, Great video as always!!! keep up the great work...
Great video Mike, love the music! We had the Minneapolis Moline G707 and the 777JD plow out Sunday and hooked the 4630 to the chisel tonight.
Allis 7045 and this JD is what I think about when I think about the old school American tractors (I’m from Europe). What a special video this is I love it!

I like the music with horses and train, I don't know the name of it, but I do enjoy the farming show.
I like Mike less videos on RUclips from the imperial county California 👍👍🖐️🇺🇲🇺🇲

Not plowing anymore is what screws up drainage.
You’re damn right. There are definitely advantages to plowing that are simply said overlooked!!
Runnin that old horse WIDE OPEN!!
I really like the plowing videos. 👍 Happy subscriber 😊!

Just listen to that 4630 just hum along. 💪🏻💪🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
That ground looks beautiful after the ploughing, does it try to fill in the furrows after ploughing or does he ploughing into them next year
Great video Mike👍👍 the 4630 is a nice sounding machine😁👍
Nice work and sound from that JD. Why doesn't he plow from end to end and leave space in between? Erosion?
Yes the spots where he was lifting the plow is where water would run after a heavy rain so this will help with erosion.
Howdy Farmhand
Pulled 5-14’s with 4020’s pull 10-18 Blanchat plows now
Tarlada bazı yerleri pullukla sürmediğiniz farkettim .Neden böyle yapıyorsunuz bilgi verirmisiniz.Türkiyeden selamlar
Merhaba mike .Tarlanın bazı yerlerini pullukla neden sürmüyorsun.Türkiyeden selamlar
What was he pulling 5 16s or 5 18s? I still plow but old hay ground alfelfa fields, he wouldnt be pulling it that fast in my heavy clay alfelfa ground.
Why does he leave gaps where the field terrain dips? Does it help with drainage/ irrigation?
Yes. Referred to as a waterway. Some waterways are seeded down with grass but I’m guessing these will get planted right through
@BuckeyeFarmer686 thanks for the reply learn something new every day
5 bottom on a 4630? HP to spare! Looks like 5th gear around 8mph from here!
Wouldn't pull it that fast in my heavy clay alfelfa ground!
Are there terraces in the middle of thr field? Why is he skipping sections?
Probably drainage paths I'd assume
Waterways. We have those all over here
👍
If you like farming like this comment
Please Mike, tell me that he plugged up at least once a day! Lol
Well all is I can say is it never plugged when I was there.
I just couldn't believe how he was going through it at that speed! I have respect for that guy to have that plow setup like that.
So why was he skipping? Lifting the plow in certain areas?
Those are areas where rain water may run and erode the soil away.
Waterways
@@bethbacon8246 Makes sense.
@@farmhandmike Ok makes total sense.
Why is he leaving the middle of the field un-plowed?
It's a low spot often referred to as a waterway. It helps with controlling erosion from a heavy rain.
I bet that 4630 would pull a seven bottom just as fast.
fast speed
have to get Oobree Farms to give you some flying lessons for closer up shots
I always wonder why you Do Not use turnable plows Like we Do in Europe.
They never really caught on here. I have seen a few in the USA though.
What is the purpose of lifting, and lowering the plow all the time. Why not just plow the whole field.
Those areas where he was skipping are waterways/low areas where water would run after a big rain and by leaving that untouched will help with erosion of the soil.
@@farmhandmike Ok thanks
Great video why was he leaving all those skips in the field??
Those are the lower lying areas referred to as a waterway. Skipping these areas will help with erosion control.
This is what the government needs to let ever farmer do one of these days the ground is gonna get packed so tight from no tilling it and running over it with all the equipment that nothing is gonna grow but the state and the government don't think about that shit

Mike eb traded in his jd cultimulcher in on a new one
Well I won't say any names but i'm guessing that's on 172
가서살고싶은광활한땅
Why do they skip sections
Those sections left are referred to as a water way. If the field would get a heavy rain the water would run fast to that spot left and this will slow down or stop erosion
@@farmhandmike oh ok that makes sense now thanks for the reply Mike
