    Does it also feel like winter came in a heartbeat this year for you this year? One minute we were enjoying an extended summer, then came the rain! Thank you for watching this week's vlog and for being part of the channel. We recently passed 11,000 subsribers and it's honestly blown our minds. We really appreciate you being part of this journey, it means a lot 🙂

      Being in Australia it feels like winter won’t let go - we have a few days of beautiful warm weather then it’s back to cold winds and overcast days/rain.
      It’s almost like I need to light my fire again, but I’m really trying to avoid it as we don’t have any dry wood left!

    Hi - Important! The stove needs a throat plate fitting inside to keep the fire in the box and stop the flame going up the flue. This will also make the oven much hotter and conserve wood. Good luck!!

    Hi both! To get the best from range cooking you have to learn a different way of cooking. If you want the oven to heat up, keep your lids firmly closed, this will prevent heating the boat too much as well. All frying/boiling can be done in the oven, that's why range owners have cast iron pots... helps prevent smells too. For example, items can be put on a baking tray to fry straight in the oven Also the bottom of the oven cavity can be used like a hot plate so place your pans straight onto it for steaming/boiling. Can I recommend The Little Book of Aga tips which will be useful for your oven too. Also get a toast rack (Aga make them)... it makes the best toast you can place on the hob and shut the lid, just make sure you heat it up first or the bread will stick to it. Good luck guys x

Top that off with a hot buttered rum and a good movie and you are golden! Really enjoy your channel, hopefully in a year or so I plan to come over and see about buying a narrow boat and starting a new adventure.

    Well done on tackling the wood fire Jack - looks like it worked well! Like you said, when you’re using it intermittently you’ll burn a lot more fuel getting it to temp from cold than you will keeping it at that temp.
    Love the artwork Gabby - very fitting for your baby!! A month is heaps of time to prepare - honestly other than a few clothes, some nappies and somewhere safe to sleep bubs will need very little at the start! So make sure you rest up during that time - not being worn out when you go into labour will be a big help!

    Don’t forget that the stove combustion uses up a lot of the oxygen in your confined space.
    There should be a combustion and make-up air provision for your safety. I would recommend a 3” or 4” diam. vent. You could put this in the side wall low as possible (to avoid chimney smoke) near the stove with a sheet metal pipe down behind the stove (to avoid drafts) near the floor. This will mix with the hot air from the stove.

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Год назад

      This is all considered as part of the boat safety scheme, which we passed. The boat has plenty of ventilation at both high and low levels. Thank you for your concern though 🙂

    Have you tried a coal cage inside the big grate area. If you dont use the oven part too much it might be more economical. Is yours a multifuel? The basket sits inside and you fill with coals and they slowly burn down. No need to fill the base.
