I just received a 10k bill to fix my Amarok out of warranty and now I'm really considering one of these, something that is cheap to fix and that I can service at home when the warranty ends. And something that doesn't have a gazillion sensors that fail (expensively). Hence why I landed on your video. Out of interest what are the biggest tires you can put on with the 40mm Mahindra lift?
Amarok - voted number one by tilt tray drivers - I'm not sure on the tyres, weird stud size means I'm still looking for GOOD steel wheels with a bit of width (not the cheap ones....) - it'll happen!
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY The Amarok is great when it runs but it feels like a huge liability now that could sting me any time. Do you know what Mahindra is like with replacement parts? I.e. will they charge you a thousand dollars to replace a mirror and this sort of thing? I'm also considering a Jeep because it's naturally aspirated and they have a huge supply of aftermarket parts from the USA. I want a 10-15 year vehicle, not a 5 year disposable one.
I haven't done anything about it yet - too much christmas..... but Baintech are definitely good gear, I've still got battery chargers that work that they supplied two decades ago!
Looking good. I know what you mean about rigging up something that works whilst waiting to discover a good permanent solution. Painted steel wheels are definitely better in my book than alloys. If a steel wheel takes a dent which causes air to leak out, you can jam a rag between the wheel and tyre to support the tyre and keep the air in. The same impact on an alloy wheel could easily result in a crack or complete fracture.
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY Exactly. If you just throw on a pile of substitute parts straight away, you are spending money and using up time without actually knowing what is working OR not. I suspect that you have helped quite a few young lads and lasses to set their vehicles up in a prudent and affordable manner, over the decades. We might as well share our hard won knowledge with fellow enthusiasts, whatever our interests.

Hi Roothy, I have had Triton and Ford uts for the last 8 years. I have bought a second hand Mercedes Benz x-class ute with a Nissan diesel. The Merc is wider the Navara so you can lay a palate down on the tray. The Merc also has disc brakes on rear, shockers rather the leaf springs, more functions like hill decent, cameras all around and a 5 star safety rating. I bought it from business chap who lived in Newcastle. Original cost 70 k and I 35k only 4 years old. Now they don't build MB ute any more, I think it is a collection item 😀 Hope you ute is reliable, I have herd shocking stories about GWN utes failed at 100k . Best regards Ray
New Mahindra Scorpio n , XUV 300 , XUV 700 are 5 star global ncap safety rating with emergency braking, lane assit , etc ...1 + years booking time period for Mahindra in india , I got my Mahindra XUV after 1.5 years after booking....😄😄
Aint nobody gonna buy the merc ute as a collectors car. The reasonthey dont make em is cause gghey are garbage, a show pony car for the carpark drivers association.
I wish we could get these in the USA. Anything here with 4x4 is over $50k and still misses the mark for practicality. Mahindra is making Roxor mini cabs that look like older Jeeps and are getting traction, but not street legal. This makes me want to move down under.
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY I don’t think you’ve really cared what other people think so don’t start now Roothy.. your experience and knowledge of 4wdriving Oz can’t be taught….
Look up the Egon water hub and electric hub. Maybe check with Andrew St. Pierre White on what he did with the LC 79 Dream Tourer build and you can adapt that idea for the Mahindra.
Hello, I just bought a new 2021 Mahindra 4 door 4x4 Pikup S11 in Costa Rica and I am looking for a instruction tutorial of how to program the infotainment system... can you help?
Roothy I've been watching a few of your great entertaining educational utubes. I too have never had a new vehicle, I'm 63. I've recently put a deposit on a S6+ I've been driving a troopcarrier for the past 20 plus years . I'm interested in your opinion. Good on ya mate - getting a few years on the clock doesn't have to stop us going bush! I like the Twine units but must admit given the complexity I'll be going for an LPG gas shower for ours - one day... buckets of cold water until then....
Hi Roothy I love your new rig I’m thinking of buying one I love the rugged shape they look like a proper little truck .I’ve got an avan camper but I’m thinking of selling it and going the rooftop clam similar to what you have done I’m just wondering about the weight of all the gear up there what’s the roof rated at and how much does the gear weigh .I’ll be thankful for your knowledge .cheers Bob.
be honest, what on this did you pay full price for? $2100 for that awning... not worth it for the convenience or how long those kind of things last good vid though thanks
Hey John in your rig you have you mention your going to use this rig around Australia... not sure how long your trips will be however what do you and the handbrake do when it's pissing for rain where do you go when if rains for days?
Roothy, I recall back in early 2000s you were restoring a old Viscount Caravan. What ever became of that project? I recall laughing to myself when you kept referring to Karen as the "Handbrake", always holding you back. Loved it. Aside from that, I have to say you couldn't have found a better camp to settle in and explain your choices, then kick back and soak up the location, impending sunset, but primarily what a location to snuggle up, yeah been there done that too 😆, K'gari west coast, yeah! Now I'm sorta gobsmacked you are having difficulties determining how you want to set this thing up. I'd thought a guy with your experience would have had a grand plan prior to selecting your truck. You would have some of the best contacts in the business, why not utilise them. In regard to batteries, charging etc. I'm a fanatic of Itech lithium. Why, well it appears to be really good product at an affordable price, something Joe average like me can afford. Have them in the Patrol, 3 X 54 amp (162 amp) auxiliary, 1 X cranking/winch, 1 X 120 amp in caravan. Yes they are affordable. You should approach them. I'm a RTT convert also, it is truly the way to go, so simple to setup, pack down. Takes the drama out of camping, crawling round, rolling/folding, lifting, storing etc. We selected the press button Bundutop as we are aged & wanted truly easy. Push up button, 18seconds it's erected. Likewise, press down, 15 seconds, stop, tuck in exposed canvas, press down, latch up, drive off, can't get any simpler than that. So pleased to see you back, have missed Mahindra updates. Keep these up, regards.
G'day Ian - funny thing was by the time I'd finished the Viscount the family had grown up and there wasn't room for me! So I had to swag it under the awning. We sold it locally and put the money into a Trackabout camper which did great service until all the kids were sleeping in their own swags - Karen and I aren't vanners, we like to camp real bush and like our camping as camping. Re set up - don't be gob smacked, I've neve set up a new vehicle, just built my own stuff and then copped whatever sponsors were giving away - so this time around I'm taking my time and looking hard at all alternatives. And right now, having been downsizing from the farm, I needed tray space as much as anything. So once we're thru all that I'll get it sorted - but slowly, because I don't o anything in a hurry, apart from beer.... The Handbrake says hello - it was all her idea to be honest....
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY Oh, wasn't aware of moving, guess some things just aren't shared. Why did I remember the caravan build? Well I was a caravan salesman, hence had copies of caravan magazines to peruse to be sure we kept up-to-date with what was happening in the industry. Initially that's the only way I knew of yourself, the DIY Viscount caravan man. Old Viscounts were so well built, aluminium frame just lasted. (We used to supply Coromal Caravans to Isaac Boaber to do reviews on). With time I learned you were a fanatic 4WDer, hence a new reason to follow you. Your selection of a Mahindra has many people scratching their heads, but I can see merit in your choice. Keep us entertained. Hello right back to your handbrake 🌹from myself and my handbrake 🌹haha.
LOL oldies reminicing about all the stuff we didn't have way back when. Been there, done that, glad it is in the past. Got to ask, is there anywhere in Queensland besides Fraser and the Cape? :)
Wow I didn’t know you could go Fraser Island without a few beach rods and Alveys on the bull bar 😂 The Mirhinda is looking great mate, loving ya work, I’ve been following you since before you built MILO mk1 👍
Hey mate, great to see what you have been up to. I'd hate to see you fall foul of the new laws that have been introduced, aimed at "influencers".... Just in case you aren't aware, you now need to be really up front about freebies and sponsorships etc. For example, you mentioned that you were approached by the roof top tent mob to get their upgraded model. It would probably have been wise to spell it out....by stating that either they gave it to you free, or you decided to buy one at full retail price. The fine is apparently up to $2,500,000- so might be worth knowing the ins and outs. Cheers mate, Roachie
Whoooeeeee - didn't know anything about that but I'm pretty lucky in being retired as far as the big influence stuff goes. Hope cartons of beer don't count....
I did a test drive in one yesterday and the only problem I found was that I couldn't get anything out side pocket in the door because the door console with the handle and window controls was right up agains my hip. Has anyone else found this an issue?
Hope to see lots of vids from your trips. Greetings from Finland. Maybe Youl take your wife on a bit longer road trip and Come visit Finland sweden and norway. It is worth It:) good bless your Journey
At the end of the day whatever vehicle is chosen to modify and improve is each individuals call not to be criticised. Everyone's needs are different....let it be.
Would you buy another if this was gone for any reason? This is a question you need to address for those who can only afford one vehicle and need not make a big retirement mistake! Cheers
Yes, although now there's an automatic and it's really good so I might go that way. Also just been driving the new Scorpio - wow, that's something else. But veryt happy with my Mahindra
Price! ot too many dealers in Australia where I live, will willingly accept a vehicle that sells for far less than they are getting at present. Their business is not geared for it!! Keep paying huge amounts and add to the nation's DEBT!
G'day Roothy, great truck. If you have a "smart alternator", you should be running a DC to DC charger between your main and auxiliary batteries otherwise you could cause damage to your alternator. Hope not telling you what you already know. All the best on your next trip
New alternators have electronics(voltage sensing) built into them and they can burn out if there is too much load and battery stops charging. The dc to dc chargers have the smarts to protect the OEM alternator. I'm just going by my experience with Isuzu utes
@@JohnLevitz sorry mate, not sure where you heard that but there’s no risk to the alternator. The issue that exists with smart alternators is that they tend to drop down to 12.7 ish volts which is generally not enough to trigger a voltage sensing relay or the DCDC charger inbuilt battery protection. Simplest permanent solution is an ignition signal wire to the DCDC, but you get the same outcome by turning on the headlights if prefer manual control or don’t want to wire in. DCDC chargers provide no protection to the alternator, not that there’s anything to protect it from.

I'm also considering a Jeep because it's naturally aspirated and they have a huge supply of aftermarket parts from the USA.
I want a 10-15 year vehicle, not a 5 year disposable one.
Baintech in Brissy might be worth a chat to for your 12v system John. Love the Mahindra mate.
I haven't done anything about it yet - too much christmas..... but Baintech are definitely good gear, I've still got battery chargers that work that they supplied two decades ago!
You can't not feel inspired after watching this one.👍👍👍.
? 🤔
Anand Mahindra will surely take a note 😁🙏
Looking good. I know what you mean about rigging up something that works whilst waiting to discover a good permanent solution. Painted steel wheels are definitely better in my book than alloys. If a steel wheel takes a dent which causes air to leak out, you can jam a rag between the wheel and tyre to support the tyre and keep the air in. The same impact on an alloy wheel could easily result in a crack or complete fracture.
It's all about evolution - getting right eventually!
The wifes uncle who has owned just about every popular brand vehicle going. He has a Ferrari and a Mazaratti in his garage amongst others. When he visited us recently he was driving and raving about his new Mahindra.
John , You and Kazza are natural video subjects, and everyone enjoys the shit out of your videos, just keep doing, what you are doing, and we'll keep watching. Cheers mate.
Great one Roothy.
200amp slimline should fit Roothy 😀
Looking good, mate. Those skinny LiPo batteries might fit behind the seat. I replaced my back seat with a 100 litre flat water tank.
The dealer at Atherton cairns got a way to install dual battery system and water tank on them
Coming along great mate...enjoy the touring. Almost bought one of these. Not a bad unit.
Happy for the update awesome I'd like to now the towing capacity cheers roothy
Hi Roothy, I have had Triton and Ford uts for the last 8 years. I have bought a second hand Mercedes Benz x-class ute with a Nissan diesel. The Merc is wider the Navara so you can lay a palate down on the tray. The Merc also has disc brakes on rear, shockers rather the leaf springs, more functions like hill decent, cameras all around and a 5 star safety rating. I bought it from business chap who lived in Newcastle. Original cost 70 k and I 35k only 4 years old. Now they don't build MB ute any more, I think it is a collection item 😀
Hope you ute is reliable, I have herd shocking stories about GWN utes failed at 100k .
Best regards Ray
New Mahindra Scorpio n , XUV 300 , XUV 700 are 5 star global ncap safety rating with emergency braking, lane assit , etc ...1 + years booking time period for Mahindra in india ,
I got my Mahindra XUV after 1.5 years after booking....😄😄
Mahindra is largest tractor manufacturer😄
Aint nobody gonna buy the merc ute as a collectors car. The reasonthey dont make em is cause gghey are garbage, a show pony car for the carpark drivers association.
I bet you love it when people come up and compliment you on your Navara 🤣
I wish we could get these in the USA. Anything here with 4x4 is over $50k and still misses the mark for practicality. Mahindra is making Roxor mini cabs that look like older Jeeps and are getting traction, but not street legal. This makes me want to move down under.
Been awhile since the last 😎☕
Too busy travelling! And I figured I'd better make sure on a few things seeing as there were so many knockers - so far it's working out great!
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY you could drive a lawnmower(Waterboy) and we’d still follow ya. Your knowledge and experience of bush travel Roothy…
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY I don’t think you’ve really cared what other people think so don’t start now Roothy.. your experience and knowledge of 4wdriving Oz can’t be taught….
Interest to see how well it can handle the real outback ,
Look up the Egon water hub and electric hub.
Maybe check with Andrew St. Pierre White on what he did with the LC 79 Dream Tourer build and you can adapt that idea for the Mahindra.
Hahah - A St P W is a whole lot richer than me mate, and he's still working - he does a great job too I reckon.
I'd suggest putting a roof high frame on your tray, move the tent further back to fix your aerodynamics issue and add a 270⁰awning
Hello, I just bought a new 2021 Mahindra 4 door 4x4 Pikup S11 in Costa Rica and I am looking for a instruction tutorial of how to program the infotainment system... can you help?
No, sorry, I'm not much use on tech - but if you find out can you let me know too?? Thanks mate.
Roothy I've been watching a few of your great entertaining educational utubes. I too have never had a new vehicle, I'm 63. I've recently put a deposit on a S6+ I've been driving a troopcarrier for the past 20 plus years . I'm interested in your opinion. Tyres (troopy size road grippers) fitted to the Mahindra for ground clearance ! I've had the "Twine heat exchange unit" hot shower and I'll be wanting to fit that to my new Mahindra !
Cheers
Good on ya mate - getting a few years on the clock doesn't have to stop us going bush! I like the Twine units but must admit given the complexity I'll be going for an LPG gas shower for ours - one day... buckets of cold water until then....
Hi Roothy I love your new rig I’m thinking of buying one I love the rugged shape they look like a proper little truck .I’ve got an avan camper but I’m thinking of selling it and going the rooftop clam similar to what you have done I’m just wondering about the weight of all the gear up there what’s the roof rated at and how much does the gear weigh .I’ll be thankful for your knowledge .cheers Bob.
congrats! suits you well ! cool video! 🛻🏞️🌅🌊🌤️🐟📹🤙😎
Why not a canopy, then you will be able to mnount the tent more to the back?
Yes, got plans for that - but still looking and thinking of maybe building my own. Not in a hurry because this works fine for now.
be honest, what on this did you pay full price for? $2100 for that awning... not worth it for the convenience or how long those kind of things last
good vid though thanks
Hey John in your rig you have you mention your going to use this rig around Australia... not sure how long your trips will be however what do you and the handbrake do when it's pissing for rain where do you go when if rains for days?
Tint the windows Roothy will make a difference to your comfort
Miss me 4WD Action DVDs
You can watch the old videos on the 4wd Supacenter RUclips channel. They uploaded a video the other day.
Just re watched the Pajero, jackaroo challenge Roothy had with Pat……classic
Loving the Mahindra, but you look like you're loving the tucker too much John.
would mounting it on a canopy and fitting a wind defelector just in front be something you would consider?
Just a bit picky. You don't want a bright display when driving at nigbt.
Hey Roothy have you still got milo 2 ?
I heard you have to buy all parts for the Mahindra from the dealer is that correct ? Are parts easily obtainable around the country ?
LOL oldies reminicing about all the stuff we didn't have way back when. Been there, done that, glad it is in the past. Got to ask, is there anywhere in Queensland besides Fraser and the Cape? :)
The Handbrake likes the Mahindra as well 😀👍.
Roothy do you recommend the mahindra as a general farm ute
May look out for solar panel on rooftop to charge batteries & run fridge. It will save a lot of fuel in long run.
Wow I didn’t know you could go Fraser Island without a few beach rods and Alveys on the bull bar 😂
The Mirhinda is looking great mate, loving ya work, I’ve been following you since before you built MILO mk1 👍
Fraser is actually very wild. It's the home some of the world top 10 most poisonous snakes, biggest Mosquitos, Wild Dingo etc...
What tyre profile size you have in?
Hey mate, great to see what you have been up to.
I'd hate to see you fall foul of the new laws that have been introduced, aimed at "influencers"....
Just in case you aren't aware, you now need to be really up front about freebies and sponsorships etc.
For example, you mentioned that you were approached by the roof top tent mob to get their upgraded model.
It would probably have been wise to spell it out....by stating that either they gave it to you free, or you decided to buy one at full retail price.
The fine is apparently up to $2,500,000- so might be worth knowing the ins and outs.
Cheers mate,
Roachie
Whoooeeeee - didn't know anything about that but I'm pretty lucky in being retired as far as the big influence stuff goes. Hope cartons of beer don't count....
Lovely
See you've gone back to the trusty engel roothy
Damn that's early
I did a test drive in one yesterday and the only problem I found was that I couldn't get anything out side pocket in the door because the door console with the handle and window controls was right up agains my hip. Has anyone else found this an issue?
How dose the engle go out in the elements?
Eventually the lids rust, like maybe 25 years or so - they like being out in the breeze like all fridges.
Hope to see lots of vids from your trips. Greetings from Finland. Maybe Youl take your wife on a bit longer road trip and Come visit Finland sweden and norway. It is worth It:) good bless your Journey
Thanks, I've never been that far north but apparently we came from Sweden generations ago so it might feel like home!?1
The sun in this video 🤦
At the end of the day whatever vehicle is chosen to modify and improve is each individuals call not to be criticised. Everyone's needs are different....let it be.
Paint it Green!
Need more vids on the vehicle mate. You've gone a bit quiet
Fair enough, I've been busy working on new products for the Mah - I'll tell the world once I'm happy!
Back to engel from Snomaster 😉
😎🍺👍
Price! ot too many dealers in Australia where I live, will willingly accept a vehicle that sells for far less than they are getting at present.
How will that damage your alternator?
@@FarqueKnowsWhere
@@baronvonaux8294 Thanks mate, I may have been mislead
There is a new Karoo in South Africa with lovely bulbar, very 80's sunglasses.
Looks like the ride is quite bumpy with poor articulation?
How did you work that out mate? It's not at all...
