  • Semana Santa or 'Holy Week' is an annual Catholic tribute to Easter, commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This cinematic short film highlights these celebrations which originated in Spain and has become quite the popular event in Antigua, Guatemala, where it is also celebrated with the carrying of 'tronos' (thrones) with representations of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, 'alfombras' (beautifully adorned sawdust and flower carpets), and marchas funebres (funeral songs).
Due to the world climate with Covid19, Semana Santa was cancelled worldwide in 2020. This short film captures a personal account, filmed on location in Guatemala in 2019 in commemoration of this intimate and emotionally charged event in honour of the passion of Jesus Christ.
