Nestled in the western Massachusetts portion of the Berkshire Mountains is the home town of one of America’s most beloved and influential artists, Norman Rockwell. Shane, I love all your videos, but I have watched this one many times; it is one of my favorites! It is so beautifully made and gives me that New England feeling that I love so much. And every time I watch this video, I notice something new (this time it was the white curtains with pom-poms, which you don't see in California!). The look on your face when the man in the white robe walks past your table makes me laugh every time! In your "Live" today, you mentioned that during these difficult times, doing or seeing something that brings back a feeling of the holiday spirit, makes us feel better. So, of course, I had to watch this video....again! Thank you!!

This was a perfect way to spend an hour on a windy, rainy October night. Your descriptions of everything-from candles to wine to weather to the wonderful/somewhat haunted feel of the inn are so immersive, and the shots and the music were beautiful. I freely admit to pausing my normal activities to binge watch your videos!

Tam Maria ... With 100% sincerity, you just made my day... and quite possibly my week. And what's greater is that you made this statement after watching this particular video/episode. This Norman Rockwell vid is still one of my favorites, and possibly the best example of what I want the future of this channel to become (in regards to its content). I'll always review and share my thoughts on candles (and aroma in general), but I'm aiming for material that will allow me to bring willing folks along with me as I travel, discover and share my many passions... in hopes that I (in my own small way) can enrich a small portion of someone else's day. Thank you ! :)

I love your FATHER KNOWS BEST reference. That's one of the "best" (not so well remembered) TV sitcoms of the 1950s! The radio version of the show was pretty good, too!

    • @TheCandleEnthusiast
      @TheCandleEnthusiast  7 лет назад +3

+mynameisagame ... You know it! ;) And the fact that you're familiar with the pre televised radio version, shows how big of a fan you really are. Thumbs up to you! A part of me has always wanted to become a Sitcom historian. I've always loved the format and the truly magical people that sitcom gave us. And to riff off of your radio comment, it's so interesting to look at and examine the other formats, art forms and artists that gave birth to Situation Comedy. I'm rambling :)
Thanks for commenting and for watching !!!!

Shane....this was PHENOMENAL! 57 minutes long, and time stood still for me as I watched til the end. I loved every minute of it. The content on this video is so fulfilling. I think I may have actually felt every emotion while watching this entire thing. I even cried....tears of laughter about the man in the bathrobe and your priceless reaction. I had to pause the video, I was laughing so hard! I also got a kick out of that kid with the power tool and the police jacket! Hilarious! I honestly even felt the emotion of sadness when you were sitting in the rocker on the front porch of the Inn, and the church bell was ringing 12....because it was that feeling of "it's time to go" ...that sad feeling you get when a really wonderful vacation has just come to an end and you don't want to go. I really want to go there now and stay at that Inn! I am a huge fan of old wooden creaky floors and doors. I have such an appreciation for the age of the place, the real key....i feel like I can smell it all in my imagination. So far, I'm thinking this is my favorite of your videos. (This and the Mary Tyler Moore video, my faves so far) Thank you for the effort, time and quality that you put into this video!!

@@TheCandleEnthusiast As a fellow artist Norman Rockwell is one of my influences. Love his style and how he captures the realism of places but with the nostalogia associated with them as well. Currently working on a painting of a local church set in the fall with watercolors inspired by his artwork.

I love the turndown service in some hotels. They shut the curtain, put some sheets next to your bed on the floor, but your hotel-shoes next to it, turn down the sheets of your bed and put chocolate or mints on the pillow. Makes me feel like someone is saying "thank you for staying with us" 😉

Seriously, who needs cable when you have the Candle Enthusiast?! This is like a show you would see on tv! Your editing is unbelievable! Before I go on though, the man in the bathrobe; I am watching this video in a quiet house where my kids and husband have already gone to bed, and the moment the robed man showed up, between him and your expression, I seriously burst into the loudest laugh!!! I had to clasp my mouth before I woke someone, but I was dying and tears were streaming dowm my face!!! I have never been caught so off guard before, and I wasn't even there!!! what the heck? was he wearing the Red Lion robe? maybe its just that comfortable that he couldn't stand to take it off?
Anyway, this was truly an awesome video and so informative! my grandparents had a reproduction of one of his paintings and he truly had a way of captivating people in his art. And that hotel! What character and charm; the flowered wallpaper, the key, the beds for people who don't move in their sleep, not only was the hotel filled with this quality, but the whole town was just amazing! Thank you for taking us on this journey with you! I can be in my home making pancakes, putting band-aids on my kids knees and hanging Christmas lights yet feel like I am traveling across the country. Soooo fun!!!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sticking with me, and sharing your positivity the entire way. ❤️🕯😊

I can easily see why this video is one of your personal favorites. This really feels like we’re there with you in every setting.
I love seeing the Norman Rockwell art museum and learning what your favorite pieces are and why you like them. That’s amazing that they still have Ruby Bridges’ white dress. I love seeing Rockwell’s reference photos for his paintings because they show how vivid and lifelike his illustrations actually are.
My grandfather William Stoneman III, rest his soul, was a physician and a plastic surgeon (Google him, he’s an interesting guy), and he did indeed have a print of the doctor’s office illustration.
I kid you not, when you sat down to eat your turkey sandwich and talked about how under-appreciated pickles are, I said “I love pickles,” and then you immediately also said, “I love pickles!”
I enjoyed your bizarro tour of the (Overlook) hotel and the strange and hilarious characters straight out of a Rockwell painting who populate it, like the kid with a police jacket and a freaking nail gun! The bathrobe guy in the dining room (Sweet baby Jesus why God why!) must have horrified and inspired you at the same time: Your hairy legs are very sassy and beautiful and you clearly enjoyed showing them off; and paired with those flashy argyle socks and your super smug air of sophistication, they threw me into fits of giggles.
I can’t wait to see what you film this week for November 2017! Stay safe on the road and get plenty of rest so you don’t get sick. Thanks again for this video, it’s my new (old) favorite.

RC1477 ...Thanks so much!! I'm very pleased how this video turned out. It was filmed very organically. When making these holiday themed episodes, I'm always striving to make them re-watchable (like a holiday special that you pop in every year). It even got the attention of the Red Lion Inn; they had very nice things to say about the video. I was even a bit surprised when I received a mass email from the Inn promoting Valentine's day special... the promotion was entitled "The Norman Rockwell Experience".... which is the name of this episode :)
The robed man was epic... you have to keep the camera rolling constantly to capture these gems :)

+Country at Heart ... Let me tell you... That was one of the most bizarre things that happened to me on that trip. Look, if I was in New York City, Los Angeles or even Boston, you except strange things to happen. But in that quaint atmosphere where you truly are transported into a Norman Rockwell-esque reality.... I was thrown. Although, in retrospect, if you take a close look at the man and if you're familiar with Rockwell's work, the guy actually looks like a character Norman would have painted. Hey, maybe Norman was watching over me and having a little fun of his own :)
This was a short little trip... But, one that will have a lasting impression. I don't believe I'll ever forget the experience.

What a gift of a vid this was...beautifully done; from the evocative country exteriors (smoke thru the branches, guy raking leaves), side by side rolling panoramas of mod Stockbridge & Rockwell's version - to exploring the scary inn (so funny)! Loved that dining room: & what *was* up w/ the power tool kid - or the guest wandering in his bathrobe?! Lol The "bathrobe enthusiast"- omg! Can we talk abt those socks?! Lmao We stayed at an old hunting lodge B&B for part of our Fall honeymoon, in MI Upper Peninsula. Ate our meals at a little place where they shot Anatomy of a Murder. Hiked in McCormick Wilderness (where my hubs was sure we'd be eaten by bears), got caught in rain, then came back to an eve reading by the fireplace, w/popcorn & Nakai music. Unforgettable! You're right that it's more of a "couples" experience: but at least you had all of *us*!😉 One thing.. that flower was a *daisy*, kiddo!🌼😛 Thanks so much, Shane: this was SO much fun & exactly what I needed right now!

I am definitely late to the party here... but after all the raves at Sunday’s live stream, I had to go back and watch this video. Stockbridge looks like such a charming and fun city- you did a great job of capturing its essence. I really love places that seem frozen in time and show you a little slice of life from dozens or even hundreds of years ago. Here in the present, I feel like I’m constantly bombarded with information and noise, so it would be nice to get away to a quaint town like this one for a change... to decompress and such.
The part where you were wearing a bathrobe was pretty cute- I don’t know why that format never caught on! 😆
Oh, if you like those old soda shops, there is a really cool one in Galveston, which is about an hour’s drive from Houston. I went there for brunch a few years ago and ordered a mimosa... and wouldn’t you know, they made it with Tang. In hindsight, I’m like, “why did I expect fresh orange juice in a soda shop??” I should have ordered an egg cream or something. Live and learn.

Thanks so much, Jennifer! This video was a "must" for me. Yes, the rosy-cheeked guy in the robe :), this is why you always have to keep the camera rolling :) You never know when you're going to be handed a gem of a moment like that. Since filming this video, I've made friends with some of the directors at the NR Museum... looks like we have another Rockwell project in the works. And yes, you should def swing by Stockbridge if you have a free weekend. It's a very cost friendly vacation if you consider the overall experience.
I'm long overdue for some reviews on BBWs candles. I'm working on a way to do several thorough segments. In-store filming is almost an impossibility because of the blaring copyrighted music. I could just buy a couple dozen candles and review them, but I'm always striving to keep the entertainment level high (or at least be in a setting that is appropriate for each candle). Give me some time, I'll figure it out :) Oh and I'll def check out Winter Cedar!
Again, thanks so much for watching and commenting! :)

‘God only knows how old this furniture is”🤣 Any number of people could probably appraise the age of the furniture.

i loveeeee ur intros! i dont have cable anymore just internet but your videos give me that homey, warm kinda show that i missed from watching tv... Most youtube videos have a different vibe, focused on the now and the young, short attention span. Your videos are just what I wanna watch when I come home and wanna relax and feel homey ^_^ Thanks for the treat of an extra long video :D

Thanks a bunch. Really. I do what I can with an iPhone :) ... I'm so pleased that you find some comfort and relaxation in my videos. I'm really working hard to sprinkle in some of that "holiday tv special" feel to these longer pieces. I'm battling through some mistakes here and there, but I'm learning as I go and I have full confidence that these episodes will get stronger and stronger. I can't say enough about your support. As always, thank you!

You are in an old iconic Inn. The furniture are antiques. You should look into the history of the hotel. Hello you are in Norman Rockwell territory.
Try to appreciate the history n the warm comforts of the Red Lion Inn
Stop thinking of horror movies. Lolol

You are too funny. No you can do it solo. Turn down : get your bed ready for sleep, turn down yr bedspread n sheets n leave chocolates on pillow n if there is a robe n slippers they arrange the robe neatly on the bed with slippers near the bed. It’s a welcome service

If you cut this guy's hands off, he couldn't narrate this video because he speaks with them constantly. Why is he not looking in the camera but in the mini monitor beside the camera? Video was good though.

Perhaps it’s a lifetime of too many Woody Allen and Jeff Goldblum films. Thanks for watching 👍
