The 'deadly food' we all eat - BBC REEL

- The way palm oil is produced is hurting people, the air we breathe and wildlife.
However, it's used in many foods - sometimes in large quantities - and in fact, it’s estimated to be in almost half of supermarket products.
BBC Reel explores why this substance is so problematic.

EU : ban palm oil from indonesia
Indonesia : k, ban nickel to u
EU : *pikacu face, aaa u cant do that
Indonesia : k bye
Wow, style and description of report is very good , before that I didn't realize that how palm oil is produced
This comment makes me happy
I used to make my own palm oil. We had a tree at the back of our house.
All forms of aggressive agriculture will naturally have an effect on ecology. Its price in supply has to do with its cheaper costs in land and cultivation, as well as strong demand. What alternative can there be without the same effects and consequences...? Yes, the extensive change in land use in Sumatra and Borneo has hurt the Orang Utan species, but pointing out palm oil as being 'bad' by WWF and such is not good enough, as there is no viable solution or alternative. They simply shout out who's or what's wrong but cannot provide any workable solution. Just hubris and noise.
It's scary how we are being conned or mislead over the food we eat- we ate olive spread for years before realising it contains Palm oil. I suppose the best thing is to buy whole food as much as possible so you know what you're consuming.
but the saddest thing is that when you're eating what the television and the media told you to. almost all oil sold on the market besides olive, coconut and palm oil are hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil which increased the risk of cancer. those vegetable oils like corn oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, soy oil and canola oil that people claim as "healthy oil" are all hydrogenated oils which contains trans fat which increases the risk of cancer. it's probably due to the process of adding chemicals such as bleach and deodorants to those oil. so yeah, the lobbyist put a lot of money into the pockets of politicians to keep you eating bleach and deodorants.
Can't really cut down on the cosmetics (completely) but we definitely should stop eating the products that use palm oil (most of it is junk anyway)
& thanks for the amazing video BBC REEL
Yes folks can in both foods, beauty products, and nonfood items
Folks can stop buying all these beauty products that are toxic, that are at the demises of innocent animals and or at times people.
The same for foods, stop eating the junk, especially the fast unhealthy foods, the genetically engineered foods, GMO, MSG, dead blaming products, Slimes, Paraben (all the different & kinds of parabens that are disguised or renamed to fool folks), foods, the foods folks quick to gravitates toward because it tastes and smells good.
Doesn't folks educate themselves, rather listening to what gov agency's, manufacturers, farmer's who are taking the short cut in production of plastic, chemical induced animals and foods that are damaging the body's cells and organs, moreso from the inside out.
Educate and educating the mindset of what to, ask questions, make wise decisions for self, for health ...
Stop eating palm oil food? Can't, most restaurants and food stalls use it because its cheap. In home we use sunflower oil but out side you can't. There is a difference of atleast 40 indian rupees between alternatives and palm oil.
Systemic chance is needed, individual is pointless
Can't cut down on cosmetics! Bullshit. Most women wear far too much makeup and look horrible for it. Cosmetics industry plays on women vanity.
pretty much all the other types of oil sold on the market are hydrogenated oils besides palm oil, coconut and olive oil. if you like to eat bleach and deodorant that much then sure, go eat those vegetable oil like soy, sunflower, rapeseed, corn or canola oil. they added bleach and deodorants to those oils and they also have more trans fat which would cause cancer. go and eat what the lobbyist told you to.
Surround the area with security electric fence and don’t let any human to go there and destroy, why always need to go after the most vulnerable, animals plants ☹️
They are doing so legally, a fence wouldn't stop them
why don't we crack its formula and syntactically produce it like many other products.
We knew the formula all along: olein and stearin. The problem is how to mass-produce olein (i.e. precursor of cooking oil) from other sources. What do you expect? Fischer-Tropsch reaction? No, too hard. Fossil oil cracking? Irrelevant.
@@idndyzgaming ok thanks for your information.
Black campaign from producer soy oil, canola oil, sun flower oil etc. Cos palm field the most effisien to produce oil compere other thats make palm oil cheap. They are affraid loss their competitive altought they have more field compere palm oil. Sory for bad english

The world , maybe including me, doesn't give a damn(broadly speaking) about what happens to others in anything that suits our interest. Examples are endless. Sadly.
Dear BBC News Reel,
-Nutella was supposed to be off the market in the USA. It's nasty. Never cared for it.
-Makeup is not advertised as much and too expensive anyway. Natural is best.
-Oreo cookies taste like a vat of fat, never liked them.
When I cook, I use extra virgin olive oil.
Jobs? There are tons folks can do sans raping wildlife.
Sad. 😞
Thank you for posting.
Peace. ✌
Nutella is still on the shelves, like other foods
Cosmetics are becoming easy to manufacturer and these celebrities are cashing in on toxicity and the rest of society, mainly young teenagers, young adults and some older adults are part taking in the demises of spreading toxic chemicals on innocent people lives.
If you have to wear makeup, wear natural and research whether the products are naturally plant based and no additives are in it, rather because it is the in and popular and folks on media outlets platforms say so when it is not about your health wellbeing, but how fat their pockets are lined, to cash in on your demises.
Same goes for the pharmaceutical industry, doctor's, and other agency's who lies
Thank goodness I am not a partaker of any unhealthy foods and products. I am all natural vegan and cosmetics free
I never knew palm oil is hurting people and wildlife and i love wildlife
What about the bad health effects of Palm oil? In our country coconut oil is sold cheap by mixing with Palm oil. That's why along with genetic susceptibility ischaemic heart disease risk & incidence is climbing in South Asia. Along with coconut oil, milk powder imported from news Zealand was found to have Palm oil as a constituent.
The thing is, if we're gonna switch to other types of oil, we'll have to make sure that the alternatives are better than palm oil especially productivity-wise. We don't wanna see more land getting hurt because of the switch. To disable oil completely... is a shambolic proposition. That's a disgrace to many cultures around the world.
Also, to make some notes, palm in general actually has a lot of uses: olein, stearin, fruit bunch, PFAD (distillate), and POME (mill effluent). Olein and stearin, beside of cooking oil, are important and can support biodiesel because of C18 content. The last three are actually wastes but we can expect to create many practical things with them such as fertilizer, soap, and biogas respectively.
its better to use olive oil which can be grown easily in the desert countries of syria, lebanon, jordan, turkey
@@rationalmind3567 Yes, but how does the mass balance compute? AFAIK palm's the best in oil productivity per unit area. How about we compare our data next time? Also, palm oil normally doesn't grow on desert. So obviously olive is the no.1 choice there.
i did not know. looking at ingredients carefully, from hereon
EU's decision not to import palm from Malaysia and Indonesia would hurt their economy. Can't there be a win-win situation?
Yes use sunflower oil or olive oil.
@@flyingfalcon6691 As for Malaysia and Indonesia exporting palm oil is one of their major income.
Great job on the clickbait. There's nothing "deadly" about palm oil at all.
Not in Africa. Please state the country not just the product.
Yeah i hate their company, deforestation is a big thing here in indonesia and harming our native species of animal and Its the Most controversial company

Lol, 2 country supplies 85% of WHOLE WORLD.
See how efficient the production!!.
Palm oil wouldn't be a problem if the Americans or Brits could grow it 🙄
Why did you have to pour oil on that cuddly monkey? It killed him.
