You have some GREAT content. I'm not sure if you've considered it but you should create a lot more videos similar to this one where you show a good design and teach how to replicate it in Affinity Designer. I learned a lot in this video. Showing the same process with other designs would be incredibly helpful.
I love your design tutorials!! I learn so much each time. Two ideas I would love to see: 1) how you would take a shift from inspiration to final... I know you say don’t use the same idea, but use it as inspiration. An example of how you do it would be helpful. 2) how to “draw” for non-drawers within affinity designer . Like ways you could use shapes to draw cartoons or even an example of how you draw a character! Thanks

Great video. Lost you a bit at the texture application. I’ll rewatch it on a bigger screen. You can download software to make your mouse have a trail behind it as it moves around, I thought it might help as I lose the mouse and miss where you are clicking sometimes.
Thanks, Juna, another great tutorial. I followed along and it went well until I had to add everything together, and the number in the middle disappeared. I couldn't figure out what happened.
thanks juna, always wanted to know how to add the grunge effect to the back. I am having one issue where when i put the photo over and press erase it actually erases it and all i see is the transparent page like background. what did i do wrong?
What's probably happening is the png file that you are using is more dark than light... Erase will erase all the dark parts... try changing your grunge file. It's strange that you don't see select without background... are you saving it as a png? PNG should have that option. If you are saving as a tif or jpg you will not see that option.
@@DetourShirts that makes sense because the grunge file is darker, i couldn't find any free lighter ones. Im using png yes, its just a hassle to always have to unselect all my backgrounds when saving. Thanks again

I'd love a tutorial on how to do the layered text from the Washed and Worn texture you showed in this video. It has layers of four different colors. I watched a video yesterday about how to do it in some other program but I need to know how to do it in Affinity Designer (or Affinity Photo).
for the life of me, I can't figure out how you didn't fill but just marked the outline white. I must have watched it over 5x and still nothing. It keeps filling but it's all black. Minute 5:53
So the color palette has two color objects in the upper left... the stroke and the fill... stroke on the top in the back and the fill a littler lower and to the front....at first the fill color was black .. and the stroke color was none... I clicked on the arrow between them and slightly to the right...to swap the colors so that the stroke had the black and the fill was none.... then I made the stroke bigger
Hey juna, i am big fan of yours since i started redbubble. I have question. Can i use my same artworks on other same platforms like redbubble , even on stock photos websites
The problem with selling your t-shirt designs on stock photo websites is that others could buy it and use it to sell t-shirts too.... I guess if you made sure that didn't happen or if you are okay with that then it should be okay
When you were smoothing out those corners, is there anyway to apply the exact same curving "specifications" to all 4 corners? I tried using the ruler but doing so is very time consuming. Or am I being to picky with the details??
@@DetourShirts Na .. i meant like the little adjustments you were making to each corner to match the sample you were basing it out of. Either way .. Hello! I really appreciate your videos and I always learn so much. I am brand new at POD and Affinity Designer. I would like to ask what color space do you design in for POD in Affinity Designer, how to properly export a finished piece, and how big the design should be with in the 5400 by 4500 setting? Thank you for all that you are doing!
Not exactly... it's more like make something an "object" instead of a text or shape.... It's called curves because it's made out of points and you can select and move those points.
I know this video is 3 years old, but I found it very valuable. I'm trying to move away from the subscription-based kittl designing, and going to affinity designer. In your opinion, which would be easier? Should I just stick with a subscription-based design tool?
It really depends what you want. If you want to build your skills and do everything yourself than Affinity Designer. Something like Kittl can speed up designing but you will have to use what they provide.
Follow these steps....make sure the design is in one group.... the texture is above all of them in the layers palette..... then group the design group and the texture together... then use the erase filter on the texture.
The only way I can really get it to work is if I add another rectangle that is clear that covers the canvass. Then I group the layers wit the texture in the back and the curves in the middle. So it kinda works. thanks for the tutorial. The erase filter was not what worked though. I will have to try again.
I’m having a problem with some Redbubble designs being ripped off and sold on Amazon (I use watermark but there are ways around that). Could you do a video on how to best deal with this issue, is it worth the time it takes to go after these thieves? Thanks Juna.
So sad...It's a problem we all face... I usually report copycats of mine on bigger sites like Amazon, RedBubble, Etsy, etc.... I don't try to take them off of the smaller sites I never heard of... not sure if that's the best way but that's what I do.
I want to know the texture part soooo bad... but its not working for me! :( I get everything into curves... add them so they are one. Place the texture... menu down to erase and the everything goes away. I read comments down further and someone was having the same problem... so I converted my backgrounds from jpeg to png... same problem still
I think what is happening is the grouping.... so first make sure your design is all in one group. . next put the texture above the group in the layers palette... then group your grouped design and the texture into one group.... open the group... select the texture and set that to erase.... that should do it.

hi Juna thank you for all the informative videos I have a few questions 1. what does “convert to curves” do? 2. why do you ungroup after converting to curve? 3. what does “expand stroke” do?
Convert to curves changes text or a shape into an object with points. When it's curves (object with points) you have more control to change it..... I ungroup text because I need to have each letter separated.... Expand stroke makes and outline an object with points.
