    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Jem (Philip Alford) and Scout (Mary Badham) get attacked in the woods on Halloween night, Boo (Robert Duvall) fights and saves them.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiographical novel was translated to film in 1962 by Horton Foote and the producer/director team of Robert Mulligan and Alan J. Pakula. Set a small Alabama town in the 1930s, the story focuses on scrupulously honest, highly respected lawyer Atticus Finch, magnificently embodied by Gregory Peck. Finch puts his career on the line when he agrees to represent Tom Robinson (Brock Peters), a black man accused of rape. The trial and the events surrounding it are seen through the eyes of Finch's six-year-old daughter Scout (Mary Badham). While Robinson's trial gives the film its momentum, there are plenty of anecdotal occurrences before and after the court date: Scout's ever-strengthening bond with older brother Jem (Philip Alford), her friendship with precocious young Dill Harris (a character based on Lee's childhood chum Truman Capote and played by John Megna), her father's no-nonsense reactions to such life-and-death crises as a rampaging mad dog, and especially Scout's reactions to, and relationship with, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall in his movie debut), the reclusive "village idiot" who turns out to be her salvation when she is attacked by a venomous bigot. To Kill a Mockingbird won Academy Awards for Best Actor (Peck), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Art Direction.

Cast: Phillip Alford, Robert Duvall, Mary Badham

Apologies in advance; I'm about to be a fangirl. But Arthur is a fucking darling. He was abused by his family and then shunned by the county and yet still remains, simply put, a mockingbird--a creature with no intention other than to add a little beauty and kindness into the world. And the fact that he risked his life to save two children whom he's barely even interacted with is just... fuck me, I need a tissue. T-T

When Scout sees Boo Radley behind the bedroom door and says "Why there he is, Mr. Tate......" The expression n look on Boo Radley's face conveys so much about himself n who he really is............That is an art in cinematic acting!!!

Yeah, the buildup to what happens is what gives me the creeps still to this day. Elmer Bernstein's music really sets the tone for the entire sequence. I especially love the intense piano that starts when Boo Radley comes to their rescue to stop Ewell. I haven't hated a character from a movie or the original book as strongly as I have Bob Ewell. There was nothing redeemable about that man. He got what he deserved and then some.

Those children are all Boo Radley has. He has lived a horrible life, abused and isolated, too afraid to show his face for years. He communicates with the kids in his own way, like leaving them presents and fixing Jem’s pants. He delights in hearing their laughter and chatter outside his house every day. Then one night, he hears a totally different sound from them. He hears screams. He looks. He sees a man with a knife ambushing them, trying to silence them forever.
And after a lifetime of hiding, Boo Radley emerges.

Kinda disappointed with this scene. In the book, scout cant gwt out of hwr costume on her own. Two, if you read carefully, it says that bob was trying to kill the kids with the knife and actually slit the throat of scouts costume and thats what saved her. Its not said but implied. But I guess the movie is great in its own way. I love borh the movie and the book, Ofcourse, the book a little more ;)

Chibi Lychee : I’d like to think that a man of Atticus’ wisdom immediately knows who killed Bob. But same as Tate, he wanted to save Boo from all the messiness so could only thought of that as an alternative. Tate saved both Jem and Boo from the hassle.

It's meant to be scary in the book, and I found it even scarier in the movie here due to the music and the buildup right to when Ewell attacks the kids. I also start cheering once that piano music kicks in when Boo shows up and starts to fight Ewell to protect Scout and eventually kill Ewell in self defense.

I saw this film about 10 years ago... Loved it from start to finish, but one thing I absolutley love about this particular scene is the fact that this little baby brother tries to defend his kid sister from a crazy grown man, since it's a fight he could never win, but thank god for Boo... :) And yes. I love the scene a few scenes later when someone appears from behind a door... ;)
