Sept 21, 2016 - Got the 2nd of the first 2 Fully Factory Optioned Lussos with stick on the entire West Coast of the USA, in Henderson/Las Vegas... The Stick makes a WORLD of difference in this car... Took all of 15 minutes to get it down with virtually NO Turbo Lag... I hate the styling of the Abarth, SO, I got the Lusso.. and plan to add exhaust, Brembo's, etc.. FUNNEST car I've ever had in my LIFE !!!! Coming from a Mustang GT.. The Mustang feels like a Land Barge compared to my 124.. I'm 54, 6'0 205, 38w, and fit perfectly... The top is amazing, along with the BOSE 9 speaker stereo with sub and headrest speakers... LOVE LOVE LOVE this car.. Wouldn't trade it for the World.... =)Meteor Gray/Black.. @@isaachunt5799 If he does his own oil changes he got rid of it. Ask me how I know ? Fiat is rumored to be pulling out of all markets with the 124 in 2020 ! If you ever need any parts remember the engine / suspension / exhaust / interior bits are Fiat while the windshield , side windows & back window are Mopar parts. The only Mazda parts are the ventilation / infotainment system with a small sprinkling of parts in the engine bay. Its a real combo sandwich !
I'm impressed the Fiat made a very good job with Mazda. The interiors look so gorgeous. Too bad for that turbo lag but a lot of people complain about the GARRET GT1446 and others choose it for the good performance peaks it can reach (about 210-215 hp). I Can't wait to watch a full test drive of the new ABARTH 124.
2 completely different cars. Drive them back to back like I did & the clear winner is the MX-5 whatever you think about looks ! Looks are subjective & the MX-5 is lighter , faster & more fun. Funny how all these people talk about buying one ! That is all that is ... talk ! For all you DIYers that do your own oil changes the drain plug is relatively straight forward but that oil filter is a pain in the A SS ! Fiat 124 have been pulled from the EU / UK markets. Here in the US I keep hearing that 2020 will be THE LAST YEAR ! www.124spider.org/threads/diy-changing-engine-oil-and-filter-with-photos.14017/
@@ag4allgood I totally agree with you, looks is one thing, the driving experience and overall ownership experience/cost is another. I didn't get one merely due to their bad reputation. Aesthetically, very nice car and even if I had gone for one, it would be a lease, not a purchase. Ultimately, I ended up getting a stick shift 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE. It was very hard to get one in the US West Coast. Even though it was the first year model, I could tell it was designed and engineered very well. I have been very happy with it.
At the Memphis International Auto Show, I drove a 2017 Fiat 500 Abarth and a 2017 124 Abarth Spider. I was VERY impressed by the 500, especially the way the stock exhaust sounded (it sounded like a mini Jaguar F-Type V8 to me the way it snap, crackled, and popped lol). In the 124, I expected more of the same, but was underwhelmed that the exhaust didn't sound as good as the 500. So, I completely agree about the sound. Also, the power in the 124 didn't seem to kick in as well as the 500.
I'll be really curious about the 124 Abarth once it's released and COBB and friends start making canned tunes for it pushing it up to 220 or so to the ground. I think it'll be quite fun, I think.
I think the one thing that a lot of the car reviewers don’t get Is that these aren’t really intended to be “practical” or powerful, they’re small cars that you can have fun taking around corners and cruise along a beach or something, and to the part of them being impractical, it’s a roadster, most of the people driving these are people who are driving themselves and maybe someone else, and usually don’t need tons of storage space, cause usually all you’re carrying in these things is maybe a backpack, or if you’re traveling, a duffel bag or two, thats my opinion at least.
nice review as usual. based on this and other reviews, seems more composed than mx-5, without sacrificing performance. saw on another review thats its kind of ironic that the power bulges on the original were a reference to the twin cam engine. This ones SOHC. oh well.
Hey Matt...love your videos. Is there a chance you could do some comparison videos in the future? Maybe compare some cars that you've really liked and say which is your favorite. Ex. 350z, S2000, and the BRZ. Something along those lines.
+Zach Huneycutt about 125k I think, but it was GM that reached out to me because of how popular the Corvette and Camaro videos were. Took a while and had to build up some connections to get the other companies. More about connections than subscriber count.
The big problem with small, turbo engines is that many of the small turbos are not that good. Most of the turbo development has been on the larger side of the spectrum. Manufacturers jumping on the small engine bandwagon is too new of a thing for turbo manufacturers. Give it a few years and see if Garrett or Mitsubishi puts in some development time into their smaller turbos.
Hey Matt, you would have one of the best shows on RUclips if you could lessen the amount of "Ums and uhhs". If you clean that up, I predict you going bigger than youtube and having your own show on TV.
FCA has everything to be the best vehicle manufacturer, awesome engine packages and cool designs, but the craftsmanship is just not there. Out of the factory, FCA products just feel cheap and watered down, and they're just generally unreliable. That whole water leak thing is just the beginning of all the problems that 124 is going to have down the road. Not a fan. Great review though!
Excellent review. No other reviewers have ever mentioned that the steering wheel is thicker than Miata... and the roof leak. Thanks for the information. Too bad it doesn't have Apple Carplay or LED headlight as standard. The 2017 Fiat 124 Abarth has tires 205/45/17. Question: Are there any disadvantages (camber, handling, etc.) to putting in bigger tires when it is time to replace them such as 215/45/17?
You mentioned that brakes are mushy and recommended brembo brakes. I searched Fiat site and it looks like dealers are ordering Abarth without brembo brakes. This is preventing me from pulling the trigger to buy one based on your recommendation to get brembo brakes.
I can just tell you would have enjoyed the manual model better. I hope you get a manual of this model in the future. These cars should not be sold with an automatic unless it is a fancier dual clutch with faster shifting. The standard auto box they put in these cars just doesn't cut it and saps all the fun out of it.
Who can say they've been subscribed since his brz snow videos , I think that was 3 or 4 years ago DANG time flies

I wish the rear end of this car was on the Miata
Brian _shady97 agreed, I like the back of this maybe we will see some conversions later on. I don't care for the front though
I honestly hope so, I love the back end of this but dislike the front end, but on the new ND Miata I love the front but don't care for the back
Agreed. Wish they'd gone with the classic round 124 headlights shown from the 1970s too.

Matt reminds me of a 1977 Luke Skywalker. Just don't ask me why.
Motor Trend drove this extremely spiritedly and they said it handled better than the MX-5. They gave praise for its handling.

yitznewton it was not impressive enough
Caleb Hogue apparently!
My very first car was a 1979 fiat sounder... amazingly never had any major problems with it. Glad to see it's back. But I think I'd take the Miata
Beautiful 124! Love it! Great video as well....cant wait for the Abarth review!
The grille looks very Ford-like, though I've seen this car in person and I can say it looks way better than in videos and pictures.
I'd have bought this car in a heart beat if it had at least 25hp more. Looks way better and more exotic than a Miata.

The cornering part of the video (10:30) was awesome with the dual video! Keep doing that please 😁
Found a black one at my local Honda dealer 30k miles can’t wait to buy it
knowing FCA i would never own one, but i wouldn't mind renting this car for the weekend going up and down Pacfic Coast Hwy.

hopefully someday you can review a M235i/M240i manual *anxiously waiting
Amazing review Matt!
Bought one just like this. I had a miata before the Spider seems better to me the air conditioning seems stronger

I liked your other opening music: Disfigure "Blank"
buying one of these this week i think.
got a brand new one for 20k usd
Now than I'm in Italy, now I know why Fiat softened the suspension... the roads in italy are bumpy af!
Abarth trim level comes with limited slip diff. Makes a difference.
there is another cup holder ....you'll find on passenger seat! anyway this is really beautiful little roadster

ready to play the word" nice" counting game?
ahhhh, the wonderful fiata
You definitely have to get one
Fiata > miata either way most lawn mowers will have more HP.
But they'll still beat a Mustang GT on the track.
ikr.
justin bouche reliability tho
yes tho?
justin bouche I don't jave much confidence on the 1.4...
you need to do the 124 abarth.....
First thing I'd do if I got this would be to put coil overs to reduce those huge wheel well gaps.
ZeitLan Inc. and small wheel spacers
Caleb Hogue I'd probably get 1" thicker wheels with the same off set.

NICE COOL Review: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Lusso
Do the abarth 124 please!
you missed the storage space behind the seats.
I wonder if the 124 Spider would beat a BRZ in a drag race. The Fiat is down 40HP, but in turn it has 30+ ft-lb torque.
who would get this car in automatic? Kinda just makes this car more unenjoyable
Yes , the last thing you want in a convertible sports car.
saw the Abarth 124 spider at sema...did you? will you be reviewing the Abarth?
Those water droplets on the interior concern me. Especially when you live in FL.

How does it compare to the BRZ
There is storage behind the seats
Awesome!

slaWterCH well thats one way to come out of the closet

MX 5 literally beats it in every driving category. Fun, exhaust sound, interior, faster, looks. I don't know why anyone would buy the fiat, tbh.
Of course you do..you are a hairdresser.

are you going to make a sound video of the Fiat 124 Spider
+Judith Benoit no, there wasn't much sound sadly.
subaruwrxfan will you try out the Abarth version in manual if given the chance?

Slower then an frs??? That's weird .. Damn.. Thanks man!!!!

Is this the Ohio Township park?
I want a small car like this as my next one but coming from a torquey V8, I feel like i would need to supercharge it
It's turbocharged from factory
Bigger turbo then
It's just a 1.4 though
Kaisuke971 ls3 swap it or eith bigger turbo and built motor probably low 400s
Braeden Dempsey Someone already did with the Miata, so i guess they can with the Fiat
Try Abarth version
Dude, I need you to review the 2017 civic hatch sport 6MT! There are plenty of reviews but none of them are the sport manual.
+Jake DeGregorio I'd love to! Hoping to make some progress with Honda to get one.
how many times did he say Miata
What did they do to that engine? The same engine in the 500 sounds like a mini Ferrari, this just sounds like a normal 4 cyl out of a corolla
Clous von it still sounds like the abarth. I hear that Maserati type engine note where do you hear corolla?? It's just not as loud I guess?
