The Deeper Life - A. W. Tozer Sermon
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Shortly before his death, Tozer wrote: "Another kind of religious leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the Throne." I am convinced that Aiden Wilson Tozer himself was such a man.
In his 1948 classic The Pursuit of God, Tozer challenged the stiff and wooden quality of many Christian lives. He noted: "Complacency is the deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people." Indeed, Tozer believed that thirst for God was the sign of coming revival.
Tozer's passion for a deeper knowledge of God led him to study the great devotional writers of the past. "These people know God, and I want to know what they know about God and how they came to know it," he observed. Prayer and worship were the hallmarks of his life. One biographer states that his preaching as well as his writings were simply an extension of his prayer life. Another noted that Tozer spent more time on his knees than at his desk.
He called for a return to astonishment and wonder at the majesty of God. Then he added: "The God of the modern evangelical rarely astonishes anybody. He manages to stay pretty much within the constitution;very well-behaved, very denominational and very much one of us."
In modern evangelicalism, contended Tozer, we work, we have our agendas--in fact, we have almost everything except the spirit of true worship. He defined worship as a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe, astonished wonder and overpowering love in the presence of the unspeakable Majesty. He reminded the pastors, "We're here to be worshippers first and workers only second; Out of enraptured, admiring, adoring souls God does His work. The work done by a worshipper will have eternity in it."
Tozer believed that worship rises and falls with our concept of God and that if there was one terrible disease in the modern church, it was that we do not see God as great as He is: "We're too familiar with God. ...that is why I do not believe in these half-converted cowboys who call God `the Man Upstairs'."
In the Preface to The Knowledge of the Holy, his last book, Tozer stated how important our view of God is: "The church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. .. A whole new philosophy of the Christian life has resulted from this one basic error."
Tozer addressed the state of the evangelical church even more bluntly in Keys to the Deeper Life. In a chapter entitled "No Revival Without Reformation", he stated: "A widespread revival of the kind of Christianity we know today in America might prove to be a moral tragedy from which we would not recover in a hundred years." The imperative need of the day, he affirmed, was not simply revival but a radical reformation that went to the root of our moral and spiritual maladies: "Prayer for revival will prevail when it is accompanied by radical amendment of life; not before."

Yes!
I stopped at the crossroads and looked. I asked God for the ancient path, the good way. God gave showed me the ancient way of Brother Tozer (among others), because the ancient, or old way is still the good way. And He has sent me down the path to find rest for my soul.... Thank You Jesus for these great Christians from which to learn, and Thank you "Christian Praise & Worship" for these precious resources!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full into His face, & the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the Light of His glory & grace.
It's a daily minute to minute devotion thing to do - especially in the days we are living.
Who understands this today ? We are all filthy, self centered sinners, expecting God to get off his throne and come to us ; the church has it backwards today. He said : "come unto me" - yet we are taught today in the church : " just ask God to save you, get baptized and you will be OK" ; Are you born again, do you have Him?, Has he given you the witness?,
How undone I am in this present age ! Some know him, but won't follow him, Few know him and actually follow him.
My Grandfather always told me : " be careful what you give Him, because he wants it all " ; I know what he meant -> NOW. , Jesus Christ is the ONE THING, PERSON - you will not be able to ignore; you will meet him either in this life or in the next. Meet him in both !
Please God, forgive me for letting this world infect me.
Lord have mercy on those poor souls who didn't like this man of God's preaching
When I hear this sermon, I feel very frightened for my soul. These words are very profound and sobering.
Just discovered Tozer, thanking God.

The narrow path, to complete death upon the cross, that He may truly live through us in fullness!!!
Thanks for this powerful message of God ,from his earthen vessel .
So good to hear a true man of God who really knows the word of God inside and out. Thank you A. W. Tozer for true spiritual food to ingest. Just what I needed.
Such a treasure. Thank God for this 🙏🙏🙏
I wish there were many more who would stand for the truth of the Gospel in all the glory and transcendent wisdom that it contains.
It's up to us, today, to live this life.
I love how he was completely dedicated towards growing the Christian life. It is paramount. The depth of God is so great, and he obviously experienced this understanding. If today's Christian would only strive to witness this too; they wouldn't be disappointed, and they would be able to help so many lost and possessed souls in our world today. We have to completely give ourselves back to God through Christ. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all Truth. Amen!
Love this man
I find it odd that I read how many wish for these old preachers would come today yet, no one dares ask God to be the one to lace up those old shoes and wear them.
Maybe one reason we have few preachers like Tozer today and no true prophets.
We don't want to be offended and we don't want to be the one who offends through preaching purified truth. Hence, the reason the Church has such little power, the world doesn't flinch and the devil doesn't attack her anymore.
The devil doesn't need to. We're not a threat to his kingdom.
Thanks so much for sharing these messages! They are such a blessing!
