omg you’re like the first person i’ve seen use that lovestruck security door correctly! that’s exactly how they’re used, as a little “gated” initial entry area, at least in the countries they originate from.
I’m awaiting the day that you tackle Hawaii. The only thing I will say is that when you do please do more traditional homes that you would see people live in (plantation homes) and not all the modern and expensive homes that have been brought over. Also it’s been a long time since you did any builds in Sulani so I think it would be a nice change. I haven’t seen many simmers build homes in Sulani that are actually based off old Hawaiian homes so I think it could be an interesting one to tackle.
Having the matching chairs in the living room/dining room/bedroom, definitely makes me think of 'we got new dining room furniture, but the old chairs are still good, so let's strategically scatter them throughout the house, cause you never know when you need an extra chair'. I can't be the only one whose parents did that all the time, right?
FYI! "San" as in San Sequoia of San Diego/San Francisco IRL actually is actually Spanish for "Saint". Our lots of our cities in CA were initially started by Spanish mission/colonizers.
Correct. To be "without" as stated in the video it would have to be "sans" which is French. But I think the Sims may have used it loosely as a double entendre since San Sequoia does actually have no live sequoias.
As a Californian, I love this so much! I feel like I’ve seen this house a hundred times in real life, and I’m impressed that I didn’t know all of the fun facts you shared! Thank you so much for the lovely representation ❤
Was born & raised in Cali myself and I have not seen many houses like this. It’s just the style of home I’d see on Camp Penalton or in Bakersfield, I do remember seeing a few when we’d drive through the LA area
@@oliverbires5106 I can understand that, Cali is huge! I’ve seen a lot of this style around the middle of Cali where it gets really hot in the summer, mixed in with ranch-style houses, older Victorian styles, and modern builds. But I enjoyed seeing this style representing Cali because a lot of other states won’t have many houses like this, and I think it’s cool to show the diversity 😊
As one who was born and raised in CA and currently lives about 3 hours away from San Diego, this house was so accurate! Especially that oak and white counters lol. That was especially popular during the 90s and early 2000s 😂
I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life (which isn’t that long considering I’m 22). I realized this house looked like it belonged here even before San Diego was mentioned 😂.
I would love to see Illinois! I would look into neighborhoods in Chicago like Lake View, Rosco Village, and Irving Park, all have such interesting homes and I think it would be cool to do a couple homes all on the same lot because the city is pretty densely populated.
For your next state, I suggest Michigan. As a Michigander, I can attest to the fall being one of the most beautiful times of year here. The fall leaves are a tourist attraction as well as for those that live in the southern part of the state. It's an awesome place to live aside from the roads. ;)
as a fellow Michigander (raised in the UP) i agree the leaves up there are absolutely beautiful especially the farther north you go (and yes, besides the roads being horrible it's an amazing place to live 😊)
OMgG, yes! As someone born and raised in Northern California (Chico) I approve this request. 💯 Southern and Northern California are pretty much like completely different states. There's definitely a different vibe and way of life between the two areas.
love this build! i'm from california and it felt VERY familiar! i was sad not to see the debug orange flowers from growing together, since i believe they're meant to be california poppys, which is our state flower. but the landscaping was still gorgeous! idk if youll see this comment in time, but i recommend the san diego safari park over the zoo. both are really nice, but i think the safari park is more fun. hope you enjoy your trip!
Bay Area native here - this is so familiar and fun!!! Here's my play-by-play commentary lol. We have so many diverse styles, but the mission stucco style is super common in the Bay Area and SoCal :D Spanish colonial influence is very common here. A lot of our city names are Spanish (Los Angeles meaning The Angels and San Francisco meaning Saint Francis) Sacramento being the capital still catches even me, a lifelong resident off guard because...nothing happens in Sacramento lol X) Yes, the yellowy oak cabinets are very common here. Our counters are that same oak color. It is quite common to have an entrance to the side. Some larger houses will have an entrance in the front that's more of a fancy "guest entrance" into a foyer, as well as a side entrance into a living room, laundry or kitchen that's the more frequently used entrance. Carpeting is common here! My parent's and sister's bedrooms are carpeted. It is warm here, but not so warm that you see completely tiled houses like in Mexico. Most houses have wooden or carpeted flooring. Some mission style houses do have more tiling, though. "San" actually means "Saint," not "without" - San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, etc are named after saints! The Windows wallpaper is titled "Bliss." Unfortunately that hill isn't so green and lush anymore.
If you ever get around to Virginia, would love to see you tackle a ‘Mcmansion’ they are prolific in northern va and have earned quite the reputation for being monstrosities of bad taste lol
Cute build. As a part time Orange County resident, this is very reminisce of southern California home. No clue why there is a shoe rack in the dining room but builders propagative. If you ever want to explore more California homes - Suggested area: Palm Sprints desert homes, San Francisco Painted Ladies - Northern California Craftman and the Mansions of Beverly Hills.
EA is headquarted in Redwood City on the San Francisco peninsula, named after the redwood logging industry! The Bay Area is home to a TON of tech companies, including many household names.
I love the house! I am really over the home chef hustle tile, though. Everyone is using it all the time. It's kind of making me crazy! The first tile was perfect.
I just moved to Sweden from San Diego, California and I miss my house so much!! This looks like a mini version of my house in the suburbs :] I wish I could've gone to TwitchCon as I always do but I have uni and can't just go back home whenever haha. Thanks for uploading and thank you for doing a focus on my city :)
Finally we get around to my home state! I will be honest, I was hoping for something based on the Bay Area or Northern California since I feel like most people always think of California as being only the southern part. 😭 Still, super cute build! Looking forward to seeing what the next state will be! ❤️
Agree! I'm originally from Chico and live in Canada now. Whenever I tell someone I'm from California they always assume I lived by the beach. Nope, no ocean for me. I was surrounded by almond orchards. 😅😂
Love this series you should make a legacy challenge for the states then use the homes you make for each generation that would be so cool but it would be a big legacy challenge but still cool
whenever you get around to kentucky- please style it after port city(covington) or country villa 🥺🥺 kentucky is so beautiful(as long as you find the right places) and you can put horses because thats like kentuckys big thing!!
When you do Missouri, you should look at the old school style homes around downtown St. Louis! There are some beautiful French architectural homes that have big tall windows and are gorgeous
So amped for you to try Michigan! If you do research on some of the more traditional homes in Detroit, I think you’ll find a lot of inspiration. Bay windows and turrets everywhere!
When you get to Michigan, I think it’d be cool if you did two different builds! One for the Upper Peninsula and one for the Lower Peninsula. The history, and homes, of the two areas are pretty different. (I’m from the UP🩷)
Living on a fault line makes earthquakes a normal occurrence, earthquake drills were as common as fire drills growing up but most of the tremors we would feel were small. Startling but nothing scary.
Aah! I'm from San Diego and I thought the house looked really familiar even from the thumbnail! How exciting!! Also, when you added the home chef hustle tile wallpaper in the kitchen, it made me remember my childhood home's tile backsplash (which was a lovely blue colour, but it was tile!), and I got very emotional, so thanks for letting me relive some old, old memories, haha. Hope you're enjoying twitch con and san diego! :)
My favorite fact about California is how our state flower is the Poppy flower, which I thought was funny after I learned what Poppy Flowers are used for
This was so funny to watch because I’m not from San Diego but where I live is in El Centro which is 2 hours away and seeing this house being built I couldn’t help but think that it would also be where I live too(for $700,000)
Im a Californian and i can say you did really good it looks pretty accurate to a California home, it actually looks more like a home you’d see in Indio California?🤔 Some of the bigger homes in Indio look almost slightly mansion like? If that makes sense. That’s how I remember them at least because I lived in a gated community in Indio and the homes were big and really nice looking with tall ceilings and stuff💀
Another fun fact: Barbie goes back to “Bild” Lilli. The first Bild newspaper was published on June 24th, 1952. The day before, a gap had to be filled, and so the cartoonist Reinhard Beuthien drew a cartoon with a cheeky blonde woman named Lilli. She wore a high ponytail and red lipstick. Lilli became so popular that a doll was made based on her and she was available across Europe in two sizes (19 cm and 30 cm). Later, she also had red and dark hair and more than 100 outfits in total. The blonde original was on top of the kiosks. Ruth Handler, co-founder of the toy company Mattel, traveled through Europe with her daughter Barbara in 1956, discovered Lilli in a Swiss shop window and sold a copy of the doll named after her daughter in the USA. It wasn't until 1959 that people in Germany got wind of the Lilli copy, and the rights were sold to Mattel for $25,000. Today, Mattel makes millions from Barbie.
I don’t know many California fun facts that weren’t mentioned, but I did recently learn a fun fact about San Diego- taquitos/rolled tacos were invented here in the 1940’s by Ralph Pesqueira Sr, the founder of El Indio; the downtown restaurant (which I highly recommend trying out if you’re ever near the San Diego Airport). Blink-182 is also from San Diego, as is Pierce The Veil, and Cameron Diaz, Adam Driver, Adam Lambert, Jerry Trainor, and Ted Danson.

A few years ago, I used a website that would show you a random street view from google to decide what to build. I ended up with something from rural Eastern Europe that was pretty cool. And then something from Detroit. It wouldn’t be the same as a “typical house build from a place” but I think that would be pretty fun to see.

Our laws are very strict, and I am spooked every time I see someone here in Kansas throw a cigarette out the window. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I've never seen someone do that in California. Californians know how much trouble you can get in if you're caught. It really shapes so much of the landscape, laws, and lives of the state.

I live in California, I have most of my life. The state isn’t as great as it once was if I’m being totally honest. Most of the heavily populated areas have been given over to the homeless and the immigrants so there aren’t a lot of jobs available. Buying a home just isn’t affordable in this state anymore for new homebuyers or young families, which is why so many people are leaving the state. There are a lot of cool places along the Smokey Mountains like Gatlinburg even Pigeon Forge, where Dolly Parton from and it be really cool to see something that includes the Smokies.
