Great gin tour with an excellent tour guide.
I miss the great money I made ginning cotton during my ginning seasons between 1978 - 1994 in the Missouri Bootheel. My best year was in 1981 when we ginned 17 hours a day for about 7 straight weeks. On a good day; we were able to gin 10 bales an hour in the antique 1948 Murray Gin. I made $499.99 for 7 straight weeks. It was so aggravating needing just one penny to get to say I made $500 paychecks. We worked 17 hours a day for about 8 straight weeks. They brought us dinner & supper from a local cafe during those long hard days. This was at the Hollywood Gin Co which was about 4 miles east of Arbyrd MO. This is where I learned to become an Assistant Ginner.

I'm 74 and I grew up in Plainview in the Panhandle of Texas in cotton country. I remember watching scores of trailers carrying cotton from the field to the gin yard. Back then the gins burned the trash and the smoke was overwhelming. I've seen hundreds of gins and I've watched many videos of cotton ginning. This one is, be far, the most informative of all. The information is really impressive. Farming is a tough, back-breaking job and I'm impressed with 3rd generation farmers. I lasted until I went to Texas Tech and then Baylor Law. I don't miss it but I miss it. I miss the smell of the old cotton gins.

What a fantastic, in-depth look into the cotton industry as reflected at the Hargill Growers Gin. Great camera work and editing, along with a narrative that really helps me to grasp this very important process of growing and ginning cotton. Congratulations!

Very informative! In the upper Panhandle The gins are newer and much more automated so one cannot grasp what is happening behind the computer.
