Painting a Periphery Pirate Lance using Slapchop

- I was inspired to write a little one-shot fiction piece for this lance of pirate mechs. If it's awful, let me know and I won't do it again. I did use the "slapchop" method on these mechs, though ended up drybrushing anyway to pull up the edges beyond what the previous drybrushing accomplished.
The Battlemechs are from Polygon Masterworks.

That King Crab looks wicked AF (they all look great)
The future is crab.
I like the story! It's the kind of thing I do in my head when I'm painting. Also great scheme and super cool designs!
Glad you like it!
The Crab is king. All those who do not accept Crab's domain will be destroyed. :P
KingCrab Dominion
Very well equipped pirates! I'm looking to trying this technique out.
In the lore, this planet is incorporated into protectorate. These mechs may be part of that effort.
Giant enemy crab! Looks awesome, and I love your stories.
Thank ya!
Stumbled across this one and your lance is similar to my Pirates with the king Crab as lead, Marauder as second in command and two Crabs as tertiary thugs. Thoroughly enjoyed the story, well done on the paint scheme.
Thanks a lot!
The 'Mechs are beautiful. The bases are particularly striking. Have you ever thought about submitting to Shrapnel magazine?
I have thought about it. Not a big fan of the rights being purchased by Topps though.
@@MechanicalFrog I understand. I'm conflicted about it as well. I told myself if I ever got to publish one canon story for BT, it would be more out of love for the setting then to have the rights to it or even be paid for it.
@@terrinils3165 A fair argument. Maybe some day if the right story pops into my head and it seems worthy.
The King Crab will always be my favorite 'Mech, and that Pirate King Crab looks absolutely insane!
.....now if only It was allowed to melee/punch with its CLAWS-
No one ever forgets being hit with THE CLAW!
That is one VERY well armed pirate group
Well armed and pointy. Hope you have your tetanus shot updated.
Belated thought: I have a ton of IS mechs NIBoxes, and can never think of a good Regiment to color them in. TY Buddy! The answer was right in front of me, and I have decals for it too: Pirates! hahaha I don't know why it didn't click' for me! Pirates come from everywhere in the Periphery, and any kinda mech they can steal, beg or steal-again! Great video w/the Fiction too.
When in doubt, resort to piracy.
king crab, masakari, and two whole marauders?
this is a significant red corsaie moment
Quite possibly.
The narration was amazing and the paintjob is really sweet!
Thank you!
Story was chilling, I love it!
Thank ya!
The painting looks great, but I really enjoyed the story, the narration really knocked it out of the park. Great Job.
Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback.
Those prints turned out great!! Took the paint beautifully!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great little story, fun mechs the designs are really cool ( that is a biased opinion as anything with marauder or king crab DNA is pretty much insta like)
The paint jobs are really good, I especially like the red and teal combo.
How did you like the slapchop method? And had you used the method before? ( under any other name😜)
I have used it before it became a thing, and it's fine. I know there are some people out there who are fussy that it was given a silly name. Life it too short to be mad about it.
@@MechanicalFrog 🤪 yeah, can't say i like it, it feels cheap but on the other hand its catchy ridiculousness seems to have opened the technique up to more people. The democratization of art can never be a bad thing.
I certainly ain't loosing sleep over it, though its amusing to watch.
Its also interesting to watch as GW seems to have missed a trick in there marketing of contrast and someone else has named it
@@nicolastousignant9160 I'm sure they can find a way to claim ownership and charge $70 a box for it.
@@MechanicalFrog certainly, but they past on the chance to brand it in a meaningful way. And now that everyone and their mother has a contrast analog....
@@nicolastousignant9160 I don't think they could ever really stop the speedpaint/dipping ink train, as much as there are different formulas involved.
Great painted mechs! Though they looked over equiped for a pirate lance.
Well financed.
Great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job and i for one definitely want more short stories!
Thanks! Will do.
I really dig your fiction
Thank you very much for giving it a shot.
awesome video, and I loved the flavor story, too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You wrote that? It was great! Glad I looked at the description cause I asumed it had to be from one of the books.
The story was grounding, it made me really feel the dread of mechs from an civilian/infantry perspective. It was a great reminder of the impact these behemoths have on any world they visit.
Also the mechs in your video look fantastic.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
That's quite the powerful lance...😆
It'll make a mark.
Gray Primer? I like the result since just black probably would be too dark. Probably also why you ended up drybrushing color after though,eh? I'm experimenting right now before I commit to painting up 30 mechs.
The grey primer allows for the drybrushing with bright white, yes.
I like the story. With already having a good understanding of the techniques you used to paint, no real need for an explanation. Besides, if needed one can go back to your previous videos and learn..
Fun to mix things up every once in a while.
Did you print these? they look great.
3D printed on an Elegoo Saturn resin printer.
These look amazing! I might have to check out your other work. Where did you get the minis?
I'd appreciate it if you did. These models are 3D printed designs created by Polygon Masterworks who runs a Patreon.
@@MechanicalFrog Will do sir. You should do more of this narration with your other videos if you aren't already, it's really what made the video so good (Aside of course from the amazing paint job). Secondly, go thank Big Red 40k, he sent me and a few others over here with a community post. Have a good rest of your day sir!
@@greysonjones5429 BigRed is good people. Thanks a lot!
"Streaked"? Shouldn´t it be "stuck"?
But nice story and cool mechs, i seriously hope mere Pirates will never be able to assemble such a heavy, hard-hitting lance.
It would be a nightmare even for reknown Mercenaries and entire militias.
I uze w3rds gud.
@@MechanicalFrog XD
Awesome. Where are these sculpts from?
These are from the Polygon Masterworks patreon.
I find it odd to imagine a periphery pirate group operating any assault mech. That and gotta be honest the “Word of Blake” are immersion breaking for me.
This is a well-funded crew and part of Rim Territories bandit kingdom.
If it helps, I did actually base it on something. www.sarna.net/wiki/Rim_Territories
@@MechanicalFrog proper murder hobos!
