    I went with the 7700X as my build is both workstation and gaming. For me it makes more sense to have the overall faster cpu and give up some performance in gaming. Plus gaming is still going to rely heavily on GPU in a lot of cases.
    Probably can’t go wrong with either chip though.

      Yeah, you really can't go wrong with any of these processors. I went with the 65W Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T CPU for my 1440p/Productivity home build. It's just a tad slower than the 7700X at single-core or applications/games that only need/use 8 or less cores, but leaves the 7700X trailing behind when any application/game actually utilizes more than 8 cores. Plus, a simple toggle in the BIOS will turn off it's power-draw efficiency restrictions & basically turn it into a 7900X if you want that level of performance - but will also generate higher thermals like a 7900X, so use a good aftermarket CPU cooler with it instead of the stock, included AMD Wraith Prism one.

    I upgraded from a 7700x to 7800x3d paired with a 4080 and I'm glad I did. Used to get tons of microstutter even when the averages were maxing out my 1440p 144hz monitor. I get no stutter anymore with the 3d chip even at the same fps. The 3d is far better for gaming and the rest of the things you would do with these two cpu's would make no difference. If you wanted to do video editing you would never choose either of these cpu's anyway, they are too slow for that, get a 14900k or a 7950x. If you want a do all processor but one is also the best gaming processor there is why wouldn't you just buy that? The 7800x3d makes the 7700x irrelavant. Where I live in Canada the x3d is 50 dollars more so it's a no brainer to me which one to buy. In my system the 7800 uses half the wattage too so there's also that.

    I currently run a 5800x3d / 7900 XTX combo on a one year old coolermaster g800 800w gold psu.
    My PC is stable unless I put 15% PL on my GPU causing it to draw over 400w consistently,in which case
    my PSU gets really loud since its fan curve is set to max out when hitting 600w from the wall.
    I don't really want to upgrade my PSU atm since it's stable when only using 350w. which is the default.
    But i'm worried that if I upgrade to a more power hungry CPU then it would still crush my PSU when playing BF2042 and so on.
    So i'm wondering if I should get the 14700K or the 7800X3D. the 14700K will probably be alot faster in single core and multi core workloads and roughly the same gaming wise. I could also use the extra cores, but it will also consume a lot more power. which path should i take? 🤔

      You could power limit your GPU or your CPU for efficiency. I only run my 5600X at 65W and it runs my games up to 4.65 GHz, with otherwise 24/7 all core protein folding around 3.6-3825 GHz. That 7900 XTX is a power hungry card with not much more performance gained.

    • @reptilespantoso
      @reptilespantoso 11 месяцев назад +1

      That 7900 XTX is a powerhog.
      Ryzens are much easier to cool when undervolted, than the Intel generation now with power hungry P cores.
      Get a better cooling solution? And undervolt your AMD CPU, it will run super cool and fast with only a little bit of power. Yes, the 5600X can also be undervolted.
      And any (switching) PSU works most efficient when converting half the power needed than it's maximum. So.. if your GPU and CPU combined consume 600 Watt the 800 Watt PSU can take it, but it won't be at the most efficient (best powertransfer/heat generated).

  • @igavinwood

    I like the comparison. I think a lot of people that are light users of productivity with mostly email, content and game use, know the 7800x3D is the way to go. If you have a mixed work and game needs then the 7700x is worth considering depending on what pricing is like, possibly good for 5 years and drop in the last upgrade available for the AM5 platform for another 5 years. What would interest me is seeing the performance changes on these CPUs if they were put in Eco mode; what percentage of performance is lost for a lower power draw and if the 7800x3D pulls closer to the 7700x in productivity under these conditions. That could completely change the value position they offer.

    • @reptilespantoso
      @reptilespantoso 11 месяцев назад +7

      Yes, If you undervolt the 7700X it can (if you have a decent chip) get much higher clockspeeds at 85 Watt PPT).
      So, I'm sorry for STS, I like the channel, but this video not showing real world use. He talks about stock values which are the very limit of thermal envelope. It's not the best you can get out of this chip to feed it more voltage!! Intels do much better when you feed these crazy amounts of power. But the Ryzen is a bit different. It really works better, clocks faster, when cooler than that 95 degrees maximum, so that's the goal. So this may be counterintuitive (less voltage - higher speed!) when you first look at this, but once you get how undervolting works, it's fairly simple. Every individual chip has a unique sweetspot. And it's not difficult to figure out, since AMD specified many of the tools to get there, into the UEFI (BIOS) so the board manufactuerers would implement those.
      What do I mean with that? Everyone with a tiny bit of knowledge knows you must UNDERVOLT the Ryzens to get the best out of these (Using PBO2).
      The more cooling you have, the better quality silicone you have, the higher you can ramp up the clock speed with less current to the chip.
      There are videos about this on youtube, but maybe STS will come to his senses and make a followup video about real world performance of the undervolted versions of the 7700X versus the best values of tweaked 7700 and 7800X3D. Because this video doesn't tell the real world story.

    You're not interpreting the CS:GO data properly, by saying it hates the cache. It clearly loves the cache because the lows are higher. Max FPS is an actual useless metric, because it resembles moments when the CPU has next to nothing to do like looking a the sky. It does nothing for the gameplay experience. That differences in max is actually near equivalent percentage difference in AVG, because MAX inflates the average. Also in line with difference in clocks. The AVG is far beyond anyone's possible refresh rate too. On the other hand 1% and .1% lows are a by product of the most intense moments for the CPU, and being higher there matters way more. I'm not even sure what Min is representing, since a min can't be higher than what represented by the .1% low.

      At 4k, most games will be more gpu than cpu dependent. That doesn’t mean that they will perform the same, the numbers will be harder to distinguish.

    7800x3d is great for people who have crap memory or don't know how to tune their memory. If you tune it, the 7700x runs almost the same.

      Im considering the 7800x3d exactly because of that, couple days ago I turn on Expo on bios and I got around 15 Fps more on Pubg but my cpu temps increase around 10 degrees so whats the point of undervolting my 7700x if with expo turned on I will get almost same crazy hot stock temps, So I guess with 7800x3d I will not have to mess with expo, better fps while gaming and better cpu temps. what do you think?

      @@armandoarroyo There is a new way without Overclocking just get a higher boost. DDR5 had made Rams much higher then 5'000Mhz upto 8'000Mhz and yes it does gives higher Frame too. Around 20-30 more after all that years from DDR3 MHz weren't matters even DDR4 weren't matter. Now DDR5 it does makes the different

    The last 2-3 gen Cpu's are basically irrelevant. 1080p for the mass market is completely dead. USA 120hz 1440 monitors are 150-200 usd. 1080p in testing shows the difference but its not actually a real world scenario for the mass consumer. For gaming it is 100% based upon what GPU you can get and for what price point.
    If you can buy a 4090 cpu doesnt matter cause you will be in 4k and gpu limited. IF you can only afford a used 2060 ti then processor doesnt matter cause you will be limited in the other direction on the gpu low end.
    But the problem is still GPUs AMD/Nvidia are basically committing racketeering. They are artificial keeping the gpu prices high and not really competing on price point. The current Gen is completely over priced and not worth it. You cant really find Nvidia last gen NIB (new in box) so you are forced to go to the used market which depends on where you live in the world.
    There is only 1 current gen gpu in the top 25 gpus on steam and its 4060 LAPTOP card.
