Once I stopped caring about the business aspect of music...I started having fun making music...not beats.
The business side can definitely strip you of the passion that brought you to it in the first place lbvs
@@MontePlus very true. From the moment I just let go of trying to make beats that were mainstream friendly… it opened up so many pathways to create art and not just beats. I’m free to make whatever I want without feeling being pulled in any direction. The music business is not for me man. I can’t stand shady people telling you what to make and how to make it. Putting me in a box and unable to think outside the lines.
Wow 🤩 I love that .
Look, I'm a 16 years old kid and I've been making type beats for over a year now... I can definitely tell you that music brings money😂people look at it as a short term money making method but it actually takes A LOT of time to actually build a brand and start seeing results. There’s so many other aspects a young person could get into. I’m just thinking from a business owner perspective as I have rentals. Some of which up and coming artist and entertainers have rented from my Airbnbs alone. What about the vans that move high profile celebrities? Armed security? Jewelry? Some of you with connections, might be able to open a a popular night spot, club, venue that those celebrities would want to frequent that could get you in with meeting multiple celebrities as they travel. Maybe instead of being the producer.. be the guy who oversees the studio and hires producers. Leverage connections to get starting artist in and find out how you can get closer to celebrities whilst also being profitable. You could run a business who would have the props ready for a rap video.. location, props, women 😂.. The possibilities are endless.
You got to truly stand out. Nuff Said

Really great video, u know what you're talking about. I have a tips : Beatmaker can be paired with other musical related job. Audio engineer, recording ingeneer, DJ, Graphic artist etc ... Having a second skills related to making beats is super useful. Per exemple, I started DJing 2 years ago while i'm still making beats. The amount of connection and opportunity I had since is huge. I was able to meet people and give them physically my beats while having a human connection with them.
Don't rely on simply making beats. If you have another skills, try to work on it !
babe wake up KXVI dropped.

I think the issue is that anyone's "formula" for getting rich, even if it worked super well for them, is probably already outdated cause the music game moves so fast. Doesn't mean it will NEVER work again, but it gets way less likely as the business side keeps changing all the time.
The only thing that doesn't change is the value in genuine good music. The best advice I can give, having had a moderate amount of success and organic growth, is focus on your musicality, individuality as a producer and building close personal relationships. Anyone telling you otherwise needs RECEIPTS and genuine proof that their method still works.
I got new receipts and proof every day! Not every method is BS, there are truths in what you’re saying about things being out dated and fast paced . But I 100% stand behind the fact that if you build an online brand, build your email list, you can monetize that brand. It’s just basic e-commerce tbh, get eyes on your brand, eventually sell your product to them, capture email to continue selling to them
Broski me personally, I love making beats and at the same time I want to go to uni and learn medicine, Ik that studying will take most part of my time but if you organise your schedule and ur life between uni and making beats and making connections then ur good and when u finish ur bachelor u can make money as (in my case as a doctor) and being a musician at the same time. Its not impossible I know some ppl personally who are producers and rappers and at the same time they study architecture and medicine or other topics. But it all depends on ur vision and ur desires. But be careful and take your time and make the right choice. Every person is different.
I double your words.
I am a pharmacist and I found a balance between work, life and music in general.
yes, it takes longer to proceed and succeed (my first beat sales happened almost 15 years after I started making music, just in 2023), but it is never too late.
Yes. I am a doctor but it’s not what I love. I’ve loved electronic music of some form since I was like 9. Once I started working full time as a doctor I actually became rather depressed feeling like I had nothing to look forward to after work. Once I realized learning DJing and production were what I wanted to do I felt like I figured it out. I make my money as a doctor and on my free time I want to produce and play music. I don’t give a shit about getting rich from it since I have another avenue of income and I can purely just enjoy the art.
I'd love to see videos about how to go about posting ads for your stuff and how to create adds and what not
Ai about to take more of the already small pie
Thanks for sharing all the sauce! I have made 7 beats, but, I am thinking about switching to loop packs, seems more my style. Do you only focus on loop packs/kits or do you still make the occasional beat?

Y'all understand the level of jems this man just dropped🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey love your stuff, been watching some of your videos
Was wondering
How do I send my beats for placement especially for genres like drill?
Thanks
I am not a pro but I think you should maybe hit up some few people around these artists especially the ones with small following because they are most likely going to see your DMs and probably even offer them something in return. That is a strategy I am planning to embark on, My beats are now sounding good. I took some months off to work on my mixes and sound selection and I have improved a lot.
The questions are, how you get placements? How many beats do you put in your pack to send to artists? How to approach artists for placements on IG ? Sync licensing?
Good notes, If you wanna be apart of something share, and get that word out there! Once the skill because second nature 90% of time will be business. Sometimes that reality of it stings!
that’s why i started as a rapper
Ayo im on the video😂❤️
It's still doeable but the approach is much different now. It's more to it than just uploading and networking strictly, building a platform will get you a lot further and put you in better positions where you have more leverage to get more out of your work.
I don't sell beats but I engineer and creating RUclips content around that brings way more eyeballs to you and your services which is what a lot of people make excuses from doing so they just shut it down from laziness or from a limited belief of not being able to achieve it because they haven't seen it YET to see what can actually can be done...
Either way the game has changed and if you're just lazy, don't apply yourself, & fail to think creatively to figure out new ways to promote yourself (Products or Services), then good luck, you're going to need it since that's all people are basically relying on at this point... That's my thought idk if anyone else thinks different
Been making music 14 years strong. Maybe my music sucks. Yet I'm dedicated.
1:45 Dude called me out without hesitation 😂😂, though I'm someone who makes an average of $1500-2000 from music commissions monthly, I still struggle with the commitment. After 2-3 songs I always just kinda lay back and relax to do BS, when I could definitely be finishing more commissions but I just can't get myself to. I know you should still do work even without inspiration/motivation but it's easier said than done
1500 is actually pretty good if you ask me, what's your IG? I want to ask you something.
What service do you recommend for using your email lists? Mailtrack/Mailsuite? Mailchimp?

Hey, Kavi. Awesone awesome video! But how do you get a placement from your kit ? Shouldnt a kit be royalty free ? Why would anyone buy not royalty free kit ? Please
None of my kits are royalty free, only for online beat leasing. Not placements
@@prodkxvi I dont understand this, can you please be more specific ? Please just shortly explain it to me. Im working on a kit myself rn.
@@prodkxvi what if you get a placement trough online beatsale ?
@@meysabeats I still get royalties
@@prodkxvi so when someone buys your kit and only sells beats on Beatstars Its royalty free. If he gets placement trough Beatstars ur taking the royalty split. And if someone just uses your kit and sends the beat out for placements and gets one… your getting royalty split and also the lease/exclusive ?
1st point is what my problem is with todays beatmaking, making only one type of beats (ex. gunna type beats) is limiting creativity and this is what we can see today on youtube - people making yt channel with one type of beat wishing they will fit in the algorythm, all those beats sound the same and dont bring anything new to the industry, even top producers make different type of beats and i even heard your beats are not just one type, so why should we limit our selfes by that.
In my experience it’s best to niche down at first and focus on one lane, then branch out as you grow and “master” each thing you do. Instead of trying to do it all at once. Of course , that’s if you are trying to make A living. If you’re just doing it for fun, don’t box yourself in and just do what’s fun! No right answer
I agree with you, making one type is very limiting. It also saturated the industry with things that are so similar that people don't know who made the music..... there are very few signature sounds these day. I'm an old guy now, I had a lot of success from the laye 80s to the mid 2000s with a few well known acts. Back then, the goal was to capitalize off our production abilities, artists had budgets to spend on making their records. Things have changed but if you feel that making 1 type of beat will limit you, it probably will. Go create your signature sound! That will pay off even in this current climate, do something that's not easily mimicked. Put it our on your own with good marketing. As it gets popular, people that want that have to get it from you...... can't be it from a sample pack. Sounds like you are more about the art than others that see music as just a hustle, everything has its place. Good luck.
@@letssee9 exactly what i was thinking about i grew up on early 2000s music and some 90s , every artist had its own signature sound, now its all “one type beat” and i get the message it can work when u trying to sell music but i see nothing but a quick few bucks and nothing revolutionary that would replace a 9-5 job in a long run because as soon as the trends switch than you are out of business, another thing i see is that none of the top producers right now limited theirselfes so.. yeah i kind of managed to make my sound but im still working on it, recently i switched more to the rnb side because im loosing love for hiphop i once had , im working on my marketing and all the other stuff right now etc we will see how it goes but making one type beat is not the way i want to go lol
DJPain being used in the intro when literally all his latest videos are about how he wishes he started leasing his beats out sooner makes me laugh.
Dj pain is my guy hahah, just used it for the overlay in the vid, wasn’t saying he says beats are dead 😂 I watch all his vids
selling beats online is a niche market that can work for a very few people. It blew up a few years ago, but it's indeed, oversaturated. Maths don't lie, a new comer have almost the same chances to "becoming rich" by selling beats than to win the big numbers at the national lotery or at a table in a casino, which means a very low chance.
And i don't even take into account the AI coming for the beat making. rap/trap and so on beats are so easy to make/replicate endlessly, because it's for now at least, a very simple music style, with easy cooking recipes. In a few years, rappers will not even need to pay a beatmaker, unless the one who are very, very talented and have big connections with established artists.
I began this selling beats online journey years ago, and the price tags were decent, now i see more and beats packs with like 100 beats for 50 euros. It's a decending market, all the numbers are here to confirm this.
Good luck for the new comers anyway.
I don't think AI would be able to take over beat making tbh and I don't think it's a descending market either. I think a lot of people are lazy that's why they think so . I remember starting my channel some months ago and the first 3 months I made just one $45 sale and I thought beat selling was cooked so I thought about quitting but then I still kept going and now I'm making at least 5 sales a week and I know there's defo more to come
I make beats on FL Studio mobile and uses and Android photos quality be 💀,
Bout building my brand what should i do
I think what kenny meant was that if you're doing music just because you wanna get rich it's dumb because there are many better ways
Yes I 100% agree with that, if you get into it strictly to get rich, that is dumb af for sure 😂 way better industries to get rich in
1:28 bruh 🤣
Kenny beats is already up. He don’t know how to make it in todays world. With all respect to Kb
I get paid. But it's nothing to brag about the percentage of the songs has been solid with established artists. Every year its a little harder just have to stay ahead of the pack. Consistentcy is f'n key
idk sometimes I be feeling like I aint gon make it 😔
💯💯
My first placement was 7k in 2006. The money ain’t like that no more. You have to sell 100 beats to make 7k now
Why in the music producer space is there a lack of originality. It seems people make music that sell versus being experimental and developing their own sound
No right way to go! But if you want to make money, it’s a lot easier to do it with something proven to work than trying to create something completely new that nobody is looking for already
@prodkxvi I see your point. I been making music for years trying to find my own sound. It's hard doing it this way, so you are correct
It's important to view a comment like Kenny Beat's with context. His point is NOT that you can't "get rich" from making beats. The intention of his statement is to say that if you are making music TO get rich, you're a fool. Meaning that people who make substantial money as musicians are committed to the love of music first and foremost and what they do from a business standpoint is how they value that passion, not vice versa. The irony here is that this video is proof of his claim - you likely will have to do many things outside of just the music today in order to have a career as a producer because it is NOT just being a musician that sustains your brand. KXVI isn't getting rich from just being a musician so he isn't even who Kenny is talking about - he's using many, many other avenues (just like Kenny does with streaming, his show, his sponsors, etc), wearing other hats and utilizing platforms to sell things such as guides, planners, loop kits, video monetization and so forth.
How do you know when ur music is good enough to start making money off of it?
I feel like I need to lock in with a small artist, my beats are different so most people wouldn’t f with them.
Facts
The same people who cry about over saturation are the same one who literally can’t make a beat for the life of them.
Hey KXVI, I chop and layer splice samples to make soul loops. do you think these would be ok to send to type beat producers/ post free kits on yt? or is it best that i make the loops from plugins/midi? Thanks
This video is inspiring and made me kind of sad because Kenny has made some of my favorite beats 😭 but you’re so right
I’m in dis shit because it’s my dream and I love music but hey if I get rich in the process ok 👌
I don’t wanna get rich. Just make enough to not have to work so I can focus more on music.
With AI like Sunos, rappers can literally just type in the words "West Coast Hip Hop Beat from 93" and it will generate that for them, they don't even need to pay a lease. We are entering dangerous territory as producers.
I think it could hurt it a bit, but I don’t think it will really effect us dramatically
the most important part is actually the business no matter what you do...but all these artists I know dont understand that...thats why they all fail
i been doing it for 15 years just cos i like doing it and i cant stop,,when i get cooked and its like a sandbox.. i have no job, im on disability, and i just cant ever .. i realised that i could maybe move my set up into the open plan kitchen and lean into the streaming ,, id trather make money writing comedy but .,,, im a 35 year old male and i started calling mysef BusyMum,, i wanted to have a few other dropkicks and call us BusyMumKrew.. its fun as fuck... in the kitchen making non genre specific ART .. organised....im not built like that.. hey Kxvi, great video! i got a question, if you can answer me and give me your opinion on this:
you say to choose one lane, and i definitely agree it's better not to do a lot of stuff at the same time.
but for example: if I choose to make short form content to promote my beats (like videos of me making the samples and drums), that might appeal to rappers and producers as well.. do you think it's fine to try and build like 2 email lists? like, one for my beats and targeted at rappers and another targeted for producers to try and sell loops, starters, midis etc.?
or just focus on one? even if my content appeals to rappers AND producers...
thanks man!
You should 100% make 2 email lists if you’re planning on attacking 2 different types of people. As far as choosing one or the other, you do what feels right for you. But if you try to do too much, your brand may struggle to find a core audience. Because you’re trying to appeal to too many people, I don’t have all the answers but I think focusing on one is probably the most effective way

Sell leases then, just change the strategy to fit artists instead of producers
i have over 1 mil views on this channel but my channel is dead now. i guess i fumbled it hard.
Too bad I hate making content. And I don't have any idea for content
I don't want to get rich making beats lol I want to make beats for me to rap on so I don't need to rely on samples that need to be cleared and greedy aaaaaaaa people who act as if fair use is not a thing and using a sample of their track entitled them to take all your money. As an artist of both music and rap, I write lyrics and I'd be classified as a lyricist AND a amateur beat maker, AND I do graphics design plus I was in a band as a kid, I get that people want to protect their stuff.
But if I'm being honest, the sample stuff is beyond ridiculous. Imagine if RUclips was exactly like samples and all the bull that happens in the music world happened with RUclips when you wanted to use a tad bit of someone else video for reference or use. It's dumb to me. The new track is a NEW track, it's not the same thing anymore, it's changed up, flipped, chopped all that and they still cry about it.
