I feel like the arachnophobia therapy will only help people who misunderstand and don't appreciate spiders. I suffer from arachnophobia but I also find spiders fascinating. So I don't think there's much than can help me with my phobia. I will definitely give this exhibit a go and try not to have a panic attack while I'm there.
Totally agree. The assumption seems to be that arachnophobia is based on ignorance. But I actually know a lot about spiders. I can ID a British house spider by the shape of its web.. I studied them in the hope it would help with the phobia. It didn't. It just means that instead of "Argh, a spider!" I'm "Arrrgh! Eratigena atrica!"
Just keep looking at em. You never have to touch them. It's ok to have a fear and also love the animal! I respect centipedes but House Centipedes are the only bug that gives me the jeebies.
@@mehitabel1290 It is actually quite odd how most people assume that phobias like arachnophobia is based off ignorance. Even at high school when we were learning about Phobias in psychology, a common cognitive aspect of the phobia is that the person understands that it's irrational, so its in-fact the opposite of a lack of understanding. I wonder if it's just a lack of awareness of how phobias work in general.
I know this is an old comment but just thought I'd add - understanding phobias themselves is also key to overcoming them. And then being able to practise techniques when you're in the moment as well. I think that's the magic 3 - understanding the thing, understanding phobias, and having coping mechanisms (which take some practice)
Plenty of black widows where I live. I don't bother them, they don't bother me. Got one above my front door that caught at least 50 crane flies when they were buzzing all over. You go girl!
I have this weird feeling about spiders. I am dead scared of them like it's terrible... but at the same time I love animals and bugs and I think they are still living beings and I don't like seeing them suffer 😰 I wish I wasn't scared of them ☹️
This is such an amazing idea, creating a whole habitat for the spiders, like people would experience them in the wild. I need to come down just for the black widow, never seen one in person and they fascinate me, especially being a tarantula keeper myself
I was in here october this year and it just left me in awe and feeling like a kid in a candy shop I love the free roam room so much, it really helped with my arachnophobia being near these things and not having any troubles!
Did this yesterday when I was visiting the zoo , very interesting and amazing at some of the beautiful examples of spiders available to see up close, also very educational which is the important thing. Being a humid environment it was a bit much with the Heatwave in London yesterday though !,
I wonder how they convince the spider to spin a web over the mirror like that. Don't most orbweavers spin a new one each morning? How did they get her to consistently spin in the same place?
Yes. You have less than 0.1% chance that they will bite you and if you do get bitten rarely it won't cause any damage a part from maybe feeling a bit ill In the morning but you feel better after an hour or so.
_Mermaidshark31 what he meant was ur just as likely to get hit by lightening as you are to get bit by a spider..there are a few very agressive species but they wouldnt even have those in the open due to the fact that noone would even see them bc theyd be well hidden

I got completely over my fear after holding a Brachypelma smithi, after that I got my own little collection of 120 tarantulas.. It can be done :P
