Red Bull Straight Rhythm is an evolution of the sport of supercross, where riders race dirt bikes head-to-head on an ½ mile “unwound” straight track with no turns.
The event has built off of that premise and transformed into a celebration of years gone by, with riders racing 20 year-old two-stroke dirt bikes and donning vintage-inspired gear. As it takes place at the end of the supercross/motocross race calendar with no race series points at stake, the event is just a great time - for riders and spectators alike.
Held at Fairplex in Pomona, Ca, the event featured only two-stroke motorcycles - older technology machines that have a fervent fanbase even though they are no longer used in professional racing.
In addition, a special one-off exhibition race featured action sports hero Travis Pastrana racing Tyler Bowers on massive 500cc bikes. Pastrana, true to form, couldn’t help himself from throwing backflips on every run of the race.
Once the dust settled, it was Ken Roczen, who was perfect throughout the night - never losing a matchup, taking the 250cc title.
In the 125cc class, Joey Crown lived up to his name, racing his way to the top step of the podium and in the most anticipated and exciting match of the night, Tyler Bowers edged out Travis Pastrana in the Maxxis 500cc Showdown.

About all you can hope for is the public to show enough interest in them, so the Japanese magic can occur. And I don't mean a watered down KX250 with a broad powerband, or another cookie cutter 2006 YZ250. I want a badass 55hp motor on a state of the art platform that scares the shit out of you and gives you confidence at the same time...in lime green.

Google "Service Honda CR500 AF"....that would be a 2001 Honda 500cc smoker engine shoehorned into a modern aluminum frame from a four stroke CRF bike. Best of both worlds and done with Honda's blessing by a bad ass group of dudes. The problem; you are gonna pay for this level of amazingness. They are not cheap at all. I saw one local on Craigslist last year, and it was $12k. Fucking insane bike though.

I had a nasty fall some years back I’m 32 now and I got myself an electric dirt bike and it’s brought back the itch for me to want to get another 2stroke after all these years and watching this is just giving me all the nostalgia
Reminds me of playing Excite Bike all night and then jumping on the CR80 in the morning being so jacked up from making 69 tracks..

Awesome event again this year, only a few hiccups in my mind. Im not a huge fan of 150s in the 125 class - its just too much of an advantage on the little screamers. So dissapointed with the enhanced audio particularly on the 500s - that mightve been the last time we see travis racing the RMzilla but I couldnt hear the 500 glory!
A great idea would be to have a DOUBLE ELIMINATION BRACKET. There is a winners bracket and a losers bracket. You race each guy one time instead of two times. But as a trade off we get to see them race against more people. And it also adds to suspense since a rider can be knocked down to the losers bracket suprisingly survive elimination and then come back and win the whole competition. A additional good thing about double elimination is that riders would finish in specific positions. Right now we have only 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th position and then many of the other 12 people are all tied on positions for the night because they never raced and sorted out who was faster. Also with the current single elimination bracket 2nd and 3rd place do not race each other. So we never actually see who is faster. In this last competition Hansen consistently had faster race times than Hartranft and so if given the chance to race each other Hansen likely would have taken 2nd on the night.
With DOUBLE ELIMINATION Villopoto could have lost his race to Mashburn and then in the losers bracket we could have seen Villopoto race against Ronnie Mac and possibly win. Then Villopoto could have raced Webb or Seely in the losers bracket etc. By having DOUBLE ELIMINATION we would get the pleasure of watching more fan favorite riders square off against each other.
Love seeing what my trusty fast '98 SUZ 250 RMX could possibly do. These guys are killing it.
Ken roczen has definitely raced 2 stokes before! He raced a 125sx for the remaining rounds in 2011 after he won the world MX2 title, what a legend

Marc Moloney Maybe he was told to do so by Honda. Actually Ken’s victory can be detrimental to their sales cause now more people will want a 2-stroke and Honda is not making one, not even a 85 cc. 🤷♂️

Of course 2 strokes are faster!! My 1972 Kawasaki H2, 750 Triple, 2 stroke was so much fun!!! Bored .040 over, ported heavily, high end expansion chambers, stripped with clip ons and you still couldn't keep the front end on the ground with 100 mph power wheelies in 3rd gear, LOL!!!! None of my friends with 1000-1300cc modded 4 strokes could compare. The Honda CR 500 is great too! That's why Moto GP limited 2 strokes to 500cc and used to let 1000 cc 4 strokes compete with them. LOVE IT!
yes i think the fact they you race BMX or mount-bikes helps a lot with style and timing in motocross i think this will be the new secret training fir some pros to get the edge on speed style in the coming years
I was a 90’s kid. My Sundays smelled like blendzall, yamalube, and mud. The 90’s were the best.

That smell was the best part of my childhood, I grew up at the end of the two stroke age and I was the only two stroke rider in my classes at the local races. the good ole days had to stop racing when I turned 19 back in 2015, I miss the hell out of it.

Hey now, thats an insult to saws. Stihl chainsaws sound phenomenal...especially the older ones, like the 066 with 92cc of awesomeness. And the legendary MS200T climbing saw. Its an absolute animal with crazy throttle response that is throaty and nasty.

Awesome event I never miss it...just needs work keeping everything on an even playing field. The guys on the 2020 Ktms have a clear advantage the technology of a 2020 Ktm obviously is far better than say a 06 yz cr rm etc since ktm still make 2 stroke bikes they’re just far more advanced imo

WOW what a race KROC is the bomb, now that we've seen 450, 250 & 125s , we now need to see super minis. Bring in the future stars of the sport. Hydrant Deegan and the rest of the super minis group would really put Straight Rythem on the map.

It's like the industry just woke up from a bad dream where everyone was only allowed to race 4-strokes. This is what the sport is. SX and pro MX need to go back. The OEMs need to all make 2Ts and the AMA needs to change the rules to reverse what they've done.

The Borden Asylum I like 2 strokes as much as anyone, grew up on them and raced them. But you can’t change something because you don’t like new technology. What if all the guys from the 60s and 70s raged and said all this new dang fancy suspension is killing our sport, you just go back to 2 dual spring shocks in the rear and 2inch front forks

@@wyattgranger7618 Yeah, but a 300+ does and it weighs a lot less. Also the ktm 300 tpi is passing euro street emission standards, so the environmental concern is no longer relevant.
Restored a 98 Honda 2 stroke a wile back it’s a blast to ride in my opinion it’s better than the newer bikes

Ken is a monster. And I know people don't believe it cause he was injured so much and has no 450 supercross title. Bit I saw him race the 250cc 4 stroke at the age of 14. Saw him race 85cc at the age of 12 destroying competishion. Winning against max nagl (mx1 world championship second placed at that time) at the freakin age of 14. He may really be the most talented motocross racer ever born. Pleasure to watch him

it is so fun to see a good rider on a 250cc 2 stroke like ken roczen on an old honda to win such a competition whne lla of the riders are actualy realy good, and see it can still produce amazing results, is till believe if he raced this honda in a pro motocross race he would be at a15 place at lowest . im sure of it, let alone at his prime ricky carmichael on his factory suzuki rm250 in todays game with his riding skills, he wouldn't be bad, a true motocross fan can see this.
