Lady, you are impressive. You remind me of my late wife, she wasn't afraid to do anything. Keep living, keep laughing, you are blessed. I'm 57 and trying to stay busy since her passing 8 months ago. It's hard for me to get back started living yet. I have so many things to do here on our homestead but I just can't seem to get motivated without her. I enjoy watching your ideas and your triumphs. Don't let anyone talk you down and keep your tough spirit. Take nothing for granted. God bless you and keep you. Tennessee Hillbilly, Out.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. A fearless woman is indeed a glorious thing. Lots of us claim to be fearless but we aren’t 😂 myself included. Keep those memories close . I lost my brother and find solace and even smiles in those memories ❤
You are AMAZING! I was just telling my wife about you and your channel and she is very impressed with you also! It takes guts to post what you’re doing because there will always be those that could do it better and tell you what you’ve done wrong! There’s always multiple ways to skin a cat! You keep moving forward, there are thousands of us who are watching and cheering for you on to be successful!!! Envious from Texas!
Amen! She amazes me too! I just found her and I just can’t get enough of her! And I love that she’s redoing her cabin with antiques!!! Love it! I’m a southern gal from Louisiana, we have an old 140 cottage, and love antiques, I think it really changes her feel and look to the log cabin. Yet still having the look of the logs , but she’s making it unique with her decor! Keep doing what you are doing!!! Looks great, and it’s hard when you’re a perfectionist, but I know you just can’t help yourself it’s just how your eye see things, just the way our brain works!?!? It’s okay I drive my husband nuts, but I just can’t do that HALF BUTT CRAP!!! So you keep up the good work, and there is rewards in the very end….. a beautiful room that will last a lifetime
Howdy from WV ❤ I am beginning my journey to RUclips and I have binge watched your videos for 4 days straight. I know you’re frugal as am I. So can you please help me and point me to the editing tools you use. Free tools are what I’m looking for. I love your channel and I am beyond amazed at how you are tackling so much on your own.
you're the self-made woman of any american dream! quit your job, go to alaska, buy a cabin, refurbishing everything , fighting against invadind squirrels...I'd be lucky to remember to renew my metro pass tomorrow. You're definitely an inspiration and deserve many more subscribers!
Jburnett8152. You are 100% right. I mean if people are giving her ideas, that they think will be of help to her. The unsolicited advice is when someone is just plain being rude and hateful. There is no reason for that. If your that kind of hateful individual, just do something else. You don't have to watch no one is making you. If you can't be helpful then just move along.
When we bought our house the first thing we did was have roof extensions put on for this same reason…..snow would come off the roof and pile right up against the old log cabin part…. It was the best investment we made. It looks great and its functional. Good luck with your projects!
When i needed stairs for the deck i built i knew i wanted treads that were ten inches wide and i wanted the rise to be five inches. Arthritic joints were an issue. You cannot believe the people who gave unsolicited advice. Yet everyone who uses my stairs comments on how nice they are to climb. Love the build, your doors are fantastic, can't wait to see the finished project.
I love watching your DIY videos. At my age, yes, I am old, I am still learning some tricks. I wish my brother-in-law had your patience. I help him a lot on building projects and he gets into a hurry to get things done. This leads to having to redo something down the line. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to your next video.
That’s toilet cubicle room is far better idea than the bench , That room needed a large fixed feature for balance beautiful doors beautiful work woman ship 😊💪
Alone of many trades! Well done! Laft houses or loghouses are very common buildings in Norway. The trick is to keep the bottom log dry. The oldest loghouse here, still standing is over 900 years old. It is placed on stone foundation. You are on the right track. Do not lock the moisture in, and everything you do - think of air circulation. The best treatment on log houses is tar oil.
I have been married 55 years as of this coming May, and my husband can build anything. I have so much enjoyed watching you build, as it brings back many memories. I don't have the skill you do! Keep up the good work!
I really loved the bench idea. It’s a shame you couldn’t find an old church pew while antiquing. We see them all the time down South but it may be different in Alaska. However, your separate room idea will work out just as great. You are such an accomplished person. 😊
Your ambition is admirable. If it’s at all possible, I hope that folks like you can interest school age youngsters to learn how to do for themselves. Training like this will last a lifetime.❤
Nice fix on your water leak. Hope it dries out inside, too. Do you have a fan to circulate to help it dry? I totally understand your living alone, Alone! I enjoy my own company, and treasure the idea of doing things when I want, and go when I want. I was married for 62 years, so I had my share of sharing space! Your commode area is going to be great, and I think you will like having it separated from your bathroom area. The door is beautiful! Excited to see the grand reveal!! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
It was a shock when Mr Ward notified us of his health. We watched and joined in his live stream the night before. So glade he called for emergency help. Its been a rough ride for him. Ant help anyone can do would be appreciated. The bathroom is looking good. Mr. Ward also lost another pet chicken. Crystal.
Alone I am loving what you’re doing with that room. It is so beautiful! I do hope you can get that awning installed. That would be truly awesome! And it can never be overstated about how crucial your new roof was. When you show pics of your old roof I just thing wow! That was a nightmare hanging over your head! I know you must feel so much relief to have that huge and very important and necessary project done. Your place is awesome!
I can't wait for the next installment. Looking forward to seeing the big reveal! You truly are an inspiration. Blessings to you from here in the UK 🇬🇧.
Was there for the live but I completely understand. You have the best ideas! Glad you were able to be proactive with the water damage outside the cabin. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Keep up the good work!!!
Maybe you could piece together some of your two by fours to make a bench. What a perfect job framing out your toilet bathroom area. Your a born carpenter!
I homestead in rural Texas and am considering building myself a new house utilizing concrete walls and roof covered over with soil. Why? I could heat it with birthday cake candles and cool it with iced tea . . . Not to mention it being tornado proof! Might you consider following suit as you age in place? Sound crazy and want to call me loony? Get in line.
We lived on a few farms here in Southern Minnesota, 2 of them had a small room off the kitchen with a door, they were a closet with just a toilet in them, with the full bath upstairs, we call them a "water closet". The old timers really thought things thru.
Love your channel, and also your detailed explanations on how you have to go about each job and why. I can't wait to see your recently decorated cabinet go into it's place. Keep well and safe.
I’m new to your channel. You have a nail gun- cool you can fix where the leak is on the outside of cabin so it doesn’t ruin your floor. You could buy a landscape timber & cut what you need off to run it across- get tar paper to help keep moisture out- even some cocking would help.
I have waterproof linoleum floors which I love because square tiles leave cracks on every side once installed where dirt and spilled water, etc seeps into & can even loosen the tiles when that happens. Great that you didn't want tiled floors. You did good!
I grew up in a log house in Quebec. The logs are squared, about 8-10" across. I notice that your logs don't seem very big so their insulating value wouldn't be as high. I know it is really nice to have bare logs to look at but I would highly recommend that you put more insulation in your walls and especially your roof. My father used tar to keep water from getting under the bottom logs. It is very snowy in Quebec but we never worried about the snow up against the house, in fact it was more insulation. I still live in a cold climate in Ontario. We built a house with good insulation and well -sealed windows and doors. We have one propane heater which heats our 750sqft (house foot print) two story house. Only on very cold days do we need to supplement with some electric heat. We keep our house in the low 70s F. Covering windows at night is important as well. You can made insulated drapes using bed sheets and polyester stuffing.
Hey Alone. over the last month I went back and watched all your videos. also giving each one a thumbs up. so now I'm caught up on them all. also, a subscriber so I won't miss any that come up in the future. love everything you have done so far. and will do in the future. please stay safe and warm.
Thats amazing because I just had a water backup under my kitchen sink and not only that a utensil fell out of the holder 2 days ago and dang if it didnt hit on the switch to my power bar and shut off my fridge which I didnt realize till the next day so my meat all thawed out and now I have to replace it so I was thinking what is up with these stars lately then I looked and Mercury is just about to go backwards and there was a conjunction of moon sun and mercury in scorpio and scorpio has always been a downfall for me. Thats what I said too. Well at least it happened now before it got too cold.
What a awesome bathroom you are going to have, at our new homestead we bought earlier this year, our bathroom is very tiny, it measures 6.5’ x 9.5’ . We plan on having a compost toilet as well but I haven’t decided what kind yet. Anyways great job girl. 🌷🇨🇦
Have you considered polycarbonate , that lets light thru in the dog run area ,would cover that area and keep snow out and deter mosquitoes because there wouldn't be any shade it would also be considerably cheaper
Hello there, l'm new to your channel. Really like your content so far. My wife and I live totally off grid up in the Sierra Nevada's in CA. Been in our cabin for about 12 years now with our 2 kids. Looking forward to seeing your future projects and excited to dig into your past videos. I'm always able to find neat tips and tricks from other homesteaders.
Hello there from Australia. Just found your channel last week and I’ve been busy going back and watching the progress and your life from the beginning. I’m really enjoying it all, even though I could never live in the very cold and the snow. I love our hot summers and mild winters. I think it’s fantastic what you have achieved. Cheers from down under 🍺
Just make sure all your cuts are square. Tip ,mark the bottom on the floor where each studs center is so you will know where to nail the sheathing. You may need to add some backer board to secure cabinets, so figure how high up they will be.
Solutions for the outside log checking lateral cracks, you could use a brown colored caulking to fill the cracks, then touch it up with a brown waterproof stain come spring time. Get a roll of 6mil. Polly plastic and staple it up 6.5 ft high on the outside log wall.Lay up some 1/2 inch plywood against the Polly plastic, that would protect the Polly from being torn or ripped apart.

Lay a tarp in front of the door to catch NEW snowfall.
You can slide a pile of snow away from the entrance in one fell swoop.

Thanks!

Use a large feed tub for a bath. Do the same to the outside to make it look old fashioned.
❤beautiful and now keen to see the room progress🙏🙂

You did a wonderful job.
Whoa 😳
Love the toilet room!
You have the skills and tools, it just a matter of making a plan and recording the lumber list and measurements. Go for it.
Great channel glad I found it you do good work

Will the previous owners be able to see your home after you are "done?" Missed seeing Kenai 🐕 ❤. You are amazing!
Hopefully, they are watching along with us. 😊
Your excellent at math for measurements! I could never do that & always hated fractions!
Wow!
You continue to amaze me. You are great! It's going to be so beautiful.
Ty Alone. Please be safe.
You could build a square box with a lid to hide the toilet, then make it look old fashioned. Run a vent pipe to the out side?
Nothing wrong with being a bit of a perfectionist. I'm like that too. 😊 Nice work btw!
In Europe they had it in the castles they had fancy chairs if that were commode chairs just for that purpose and they were decorative
So basically your making an inside out house. Cool!
Great job. I do have a question. Why did you cover the logs with a 2x4 wall in the stall?
