i hate to say this, but there is also a "mini" version of this game as an easter egg on "Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf" for the Sega Genesis. Anyway, great video as always!
This rocks! I feel like it's not as complete as it coulda been without the M2 3DS and Switch ports, the Neo Classic PS2 release based on Sunsoft's port and the PCE Mini's Near Arcade port
Interesting the Game Gear version had the pink mini-boss ships look like Watermelons and the Genesis had them look like flowers (though the Genesis version also had new planets for “Super Fantasy Zone”).
Sunsoft's port seems to have better graphics and sound while Tengen's version seems to show more of the game world on screen at a time and have a slightly tidier parts shop menu. Both look very playable. To be more precise, Tengen was the home console brand of Atari _Games_ after Atari got split into two companies and sold off by Warner Communications. Rather ironically, Warner Brothers owns the assets of Atari Games once again after having bought Midway.
The NES sounds good and looks to play well! The Sharp looks and sounds 1:1 perfect. The Saturn seems to have a slightly different resolution but basically is also basically 1:1. The Game Gear looks good but looks way too zoomed in. The Master System I like except the sound is a little weak. The Genesis and PlayStation are the only two that tried to enhance it in some way. Only a few versions look sub-par. I'm giving the Sharp the gold here though considering the time frame, it nailed the conversion.
The Sharp X68000 was a remarkable system that had some pretty great arcade ports. It was like the Commodore Amiga, only way better in a lot of ways, and faster too.
@@jasonlee7816 It had better graphics related hardware, most significant is perhaps more hardware sprites (32 per scanline on X68000 vs 8 on the Amiga)
Buut: How expen$ive is the Sharp X68000 and how hard was it to find a Sharp X68000 compared to the much easier to find NES, SMS, Genesis, TurboGraf16, etc.?
@@coganaj The Sharp X68000 was around $3,000 on release with an operating system made by Hudson Soft, and it was exclusively sold in Japan. Sorry to say, but the Sega Master system version has so much more charm and personality. It's also the most unique; it has different characters. I'm not sure why Tengen felt the need to make a second NES port of Fantasy Zone, considering the earlier Sunsoft port is better in just about every way.

Tengen made a mistake not using Sunsoft's Famicom port for their NES one. I actually like the FC one more than the SMS. My favorite here is PS2. The remade graphics are done well, and it has a few extra levels. Honorable mention to Saturn and X68000 for being arcade perfect.

I've only played Master System version. And I thought it was alright until I saw other versions. I wonder why they bothered with MSX and Game Gear versions? And NES had quiet nice version from Sunsoft, why Tengen made another version of the same game? Overall arcade version looks the best for me.
The MSX didn't have the proper hardware for scrolling. Some games pulled it off but it was not done without using a lot of trickery. So porting incompetence is right.

@@jasonlee7816 I guess it is subjective. But the SMS doesn't have as many animated sprites or colorful backgrounds, things don't move about much at all really.
