I also have a Bendpak assymetric hoist in my shop at home. After my research and now 14 years of use, I can tell you that they are the best. Far superior to Rotary IMO. Especially considering their price. As well the Ammco lathe is definitely the way to go also. Not cheap but super reliable and capable of a great finish. And of course your Master Series toolbox will be put to good use in that environment. I look forward to seeing a tour of that as well. I have a 1023 and Classic 78 stuffed full of tools so I would imagine you will need more space before too long as well. Efficiency will play a big role for you because you are going to get very busy. Hopefully you know a couple good techs from your stealer.......I mean dealership days that you can scoop! :) In any case, I wish you and Mrs. CCN a prosperous future. Everything looks great and very professional. I do have one question. How will you move undrivable vehicles into and out of the shop? I'm thinking a forklift would work and be useful for moving large crates, engines or transmissions around with. Actually, two questions. Will it only be you and the office staff or will you have additional technicians?

Congratulations!!! I'd like to know how you will recruit, find and hire good mechanics to work for you. With a workshop that big how many income generating workers will you need? It's a big step going from world class mechanic to world class automotive maintenance and repair business.... Keep focused and positive.. in a year's time you'll look back and laugh.... Yes I've been through that great leap myself..not in the automotive sector but I'd advise you to do 10 minutes of fast exercise, like jumping jacks before you start every morning, lunchtime and to end your working day. Sounds dumb but you need to shake off the tension.
It's easy. Pay well, provide a first-class atmosphere, not just physically, but mentally and have everything a world-class tech could want. He's done it. He will have no problem hiring top talent. Who wouldn't want to work here?
@@thooks1234 hey thooks... That's how to keep good people.. I was wondering how he's going to find them. To avoid bad feelings I'm sure he's not going to hire from his previous shop... Finding good compatible technicians can be time consuming and if you make a mistake getting rid of them can involve lawyers. When I started my first business it took me a while to realise my core activity was hiring the right people until I had a big enough pool of employees to be able to use some (really just a few) of their personal recommendations. It was a tough tough first year ... I was borderline going out of business at the end of every month... After three years I could breathe easier and even took a couple of weeks off. All the best.

He was a Master Diag Tech, had been for several years at a major franchise dealership here in the U.K. He’d had enough of the politics and the way certain things were run. Thought to himself ’I can do better than this’, and he did! Set up his own business, his own shop (which has grown to fit in a few more lifts), ended up taking on a couple of guys as the work grew and like you, has access to all the manufacturer’s own diag software, keeps his tools and himself updated. He’s never looked back and has a loyal customer base - many who have been fobbed off at dealers or they are just aware that he does a better job for less cash. I wish you (both), well - exciting times ahead!

Congratulations!!! I'd like to know how you will recruit, find and hire good mechanics to work for you. With a workshop that big how many income generating workers will you need? It's a big step going from world class mechanic to world class automotive maintenance and repair business.... Keep focused and positive.. in a year's time you'll look back and laugh.... Yes I've been through that great leap myself..not in the automotive sector but I'd advise you to do 10 minutes of fast exercise, like jumping jacks before you start every morning, lunchtime and to end your working day. Sounds dumb but you need to shake off the tension.
It's easy. Pay well, provide a first-class atmosphere, not just physically, but mentally and have everything a world-class tech could want. He's done it. He will have no problem hiring top talent. Who wouldn't want to work here?
@@thooks1234 hey thooks... That's how to keep good people.. I was wondering how he's going to find them. To avoid bad feelings I'm sure he's not going to hire from his previous shop... Finding good compatible technicians can be time consuming and if you make a mistake getting rid of them can involve lawyers. When I started my first business it took me a while to realise my core activity was hiring the right people until I had a big enough pool of employees to be able to use some (really just a few) of their personal recommendations. It was a tough tough first year ... I was borderline going out of business at the end of every month... After three years I could breathe easier and even took a couple of weeks off.

Thank you! It’s a bitter sweet moment. Bitter because I miss the people I’ve worked with for years. Sweet because I don’t have to deal with the typical dealership politics and just do and say what’s on my mind
@@TheCarCareNut You can indeed. Your place, your rules. A good friend of mine was in a similar position with Volvo. He was a Master Diag Tech, had been for several years at a major franchise dealership here in the U.K.
He’d had enough of the politics and the way certain things were run. Thought to himself ’I can do better than this’, and he did!
Set up his own business, his own shop (which has grown to fit in a few more lifts), ended up taking on a couple of guys as the work grew and like you, has access to all the manufacturer’s own diag software, keeps his tools and himself updated.
He’s never looked back and has a loyal customer base - many who have been fobbed off at dealers or they are just aware that he does a better job for less cash.
I wish you (both), well - exciting times ahead!
