Probably the fastest a movie has gone from theaters to digital release to a "WHA HAPPPUN?"
The concord of movies
It was a bigger failure than the Megamind sequel.
It's available digitally now?? Cool! Now I can NOT watch it in two locations!
Right
Before it even came out on Blu-Ray. Don’t forget that. I don’t think it got a physical release yet. Correct me if I’m wrong.
"Whoever is making these decisions at Lionsgate... STOP."
They recently signed a deal with an AI company in the hopes of replacing all their VFX and storyboard artists. If they had _any_ chance of getting fans back before, it's gone now.
They'll be bankrupt before the end of next year.
hollywood has gotta be the most elaborate money laundering scheme on earth, what the fuck man 😭
Yeah..
8:18 I don’t know why, but “Randy Pitchford has been incredibly supportive of my ideas,” just set off a bunch of red flags for me.
I'm guessing it's because he's a greasy scumbag.
More red flags than a Soviet parade!
Because if the person who is giving you the thumbs up is Randy Pitchford of all people, that's a sign you are going to fail.
He’s also incredibly supportive of squirt videos
Yeah if I ever get an idea and Randy of all people seems supportive of it then it's probably a good sign to drop it.
#4: Joe Crombie is Randy Pitchford
That what I was thinking, cause why would he defend this film so much. The creator of DragonBall didn’t defend DragonBall Evolution.
Theory accepted
I don't know. Randy thinks so highly of himself that I think he would gladly be both a producer and a writer.
came down here to also blame randy
It’s always Randy Pitchford.
More like what didn't happen. Bad casting, bad directing, bad effects, PG-13 rating...the list goes on and on.
Don’t forget lionsgate
@@lastmonarchistproduction_253 and Randy Pitchford somehow....
@@luiszuniga2859 Randy greasy Pitchford
Imagine not having cursing in a Borderlands movie. PG-13 was such a bad idea
It definitely should've been rated R. Non-negotiable.
2 minutes since the video went live and more people in the world have watched a video about the downfall of the Borderlands movie than who actually watched the Borderlands movie.
Accurate. Never seen it but love the channel 😂😂
Damn
Spot on
Did you watch the movie and if so was it really bad? Deciding if I should spend my saturday night watching it like a loser lol
Over a million people saw the movie
You know you have a major critical and box office bomb on your hands when it gets a theatrical release, a digital release, and a What Happened episode, all in less than two months!
shit, it's only been two months?? this thing was so bad it already feels like it's years old!
Randy Pitchford really is his own worst enemy. Borderlands was a very popular franchise throughout the early-mid 2010's and I think it still would be if he'd kept his mouth shut and let the game's success speak for itself instead of jerking himself off over it while putting a sour taste in fans' mouths with questionable-at-best business choices.
Randy Pitchford has a history of colossal failure and awful decision making. Borderlands was a fluke- if you look at every other thing he was in charge of, it was an embarrassing failure. Aliens Colonial Marines comes to mind.
He's just too greasy.
And his weird obsession with Jim Sterling.
Nobody likes a biggot unless he's crying. "Bo-ho" - Pitchford III, Randall S.
Video game-based PG-13 action comedy directed by Eli Roth is something you say to an evil supercomputer to get it to explode. This isn't a movie, it's a logical paradox.
#IBlameAviArad
The fact that Borderlands 4 got announced while the movie was bombing is just a move of all time.
Before watching this, I felt like it was a reckless attempt at damage control
The announcement of Borderlands 4 is basically Randy Pitchford trying to pull the brake lever on the movie trainwreck using his magic tricks
More than likely just a marketing strategy. If the movie succeeded, it would have been all aboard for the BL4 hype train
This movie was a goner the moment they made it pg13
ruclips.net/user/shortsZWhTbPqjKEI?feature=share
A classic Randy move of all time
The worst thing is, "Mad Max meets Guardians of the Galaxy" COULD have worked as a general marker for the movie plot, as it is sort of the tone that the series uses, with every group of protagonists being outcasts or or otherwise wayward people finding their way to Pandora to either escape their old life, discover more about themselves or drawn in by the Eridian crypts.
You just described Tales from the Borderlands
@@jamesross2279Exactly
My theory is that Joe Crombie is a pseudonym for ALL seven writers who gave a letter of their names to make the surname
The Megazord of ghost writers
I know your joking, but per union rules only two people can have a written by credit max, except for rare arbitration cases for 3 are allowed.
Kinda like Alan Smithee
Seven different flavors of ChatGPT.
This is what I was thinking.
Wouldn’t watch the movie. Would rather see whaaaaat happened!
When he said this took 9 years I let out an audible "NO" lol
I can’t wait for MattMcMuscles “A Minecraft Movie - what happened?”
I bet he could make one out of the trailer alone
Do we really need a 10 hour multi part documentary on the Minecraft Movie from Matt McMuscles?

Yes we do.
WHY HAPPUN
Joe crombie = Ice J. Boomer
Its an anagram
WHERE HAPPUN

HOW HAPPUN

Randy Pitchford
When an adaptation has little to do with source material with very questionable casting was just a recipe for disaster.
well the only thing I know is that 18 cooks is 15 cooks too many
I can't take credit for this but I don't remember where I saw it. "Borderlands starring Tiny Roland, Normal Tina, Hot Aunt Lilith, Grandma Tannis, and Krieg for some goddamn reason."
My theory? Joe Crombie = ChatGPT.
IMDB credits them as Joe Abercrombie where their only credits are editing for 2000s concert projects. This very likely is misattributed or Joe done some regretful "favors."
Randy Pitchford
@@luiszuniga2859 nah. After 2023's writter's strike it makes sense to try to disguise ChatGPT as a real person... But Randy would have no reason not to be credited as a writter (hell, he was a fierce supporter of the project).
Almost every "Niche Media to Movie" Adaptation falls prey to the same fate:
Making something that tries to appeal to "Everyone," which ends up pleasing NO ONE.
You go in having a built-in Audience, but 99% of the Studios immediately alienate them as a result of making it too generic
Part of me genuinely wants to know what Craig Mazin’s original script for the movie was like, I genuinely believed he was perfect for the film considering his previous work before doing stuff like Chernobyl and the last of us, was Superhero movie and scary movie 4, which definitely fit with the sort of humor you’d see in the franchise
Him being a fan of the games helped. But we will never know because it has been butchered beyond repair unless Mazin leaks it online.
I really, really hope we get a leak of that original script sometime down the line, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.
What Happened?
Randy Pitchford as Producer and Eli Roth (Hostel and Cabin Fever) never playing the games.
That Happened
Don't forget about Avi Arad
#IBlameAviArad
It seems like all of the problems with the movie can be summed up with "18 producers."
“No one cares cus he’s not handsome jack” sums it bout right. Jack is literally the only villain that people care about and they weirdly didn’t include him even tho they already taking a bunch of things from the sequel
This movie would have fucked him up so bad it's a mercy he's not in it.
This was to quick
But it's good Aliens Romolous beat it as punishment for what happened to Colonial Marines a decade ago
Justice indeed
Mid beating terrible is hardly an award
3:14 Oh god, please,no, i don't want a Metal Gear movie anymore. i just know it's not going to work they are going to F it up so bad.
Isn't Avi Arad also producing The Legend of Zelda movie? (Seriously, why is that one going to be live-action?)
It was going to be directed by the director behind Kong Skull Island. But I heard he got injured by something irl.
Oh hell nah. They are gonna shove politics in my apolitical funny stealth game...
@kogamustard7717 metal gear is full of political analysis and commentary 😆 I don't think you've played many mgs games
@@kogamustard7717 unless you were being sarcastic and I missed it
Expectation: "Guys, the Fallout TV series was a huge success and increased the number of players for the games. We'll be announcing our next game a week after our $100 million-plus movie, and the same will happen with Borderlands."
Reality: "Our movie was such a flop that all the controversies of our last 15 years have come back to haunt us and no one cares about the announcement of Borderlands 4"
If Randy"Greasy Bastard" Pitchford is Sad, i'm happy 😊
I don't know what Randy did or will do and I'm afraid to know
@@diegogouveia8409 there is one story, it involves a hard drive. I won't elaborate further.
@@batuhanbolat5656 A story involving a hard drive is never good
Even Double Dragon the movie was better than this
At least Robert Patrick was clearly enjoying himself. In this movie, no one was having a good time.
You cast Kevin Hart in your movie, you've just sealed your fate!
Hey! He funny tho! Just hasn't found the right movie yet.
@@-Nine9-he was in Captain Underpants and that film was really good
He was the better part of the movie cause he actually acted serious. The rest of the cast knew exactly what trash they were in
You could have put The Rock in this with Kevin Hart and it still would have sucked!
Kevin being in it is the reddest of red flags
This movie lasted like a week and a half in my towns theater. Meanwhile Deadpool and Wolverine is STILL playing
It amazes me that this movie somehow ended up worse than the Monster Hunter movie. And this is coming from a fan of both franchises! The Monster Hunter movie was BAD, but this somehow ended up being worse.
Also, What Happened to Monster Hunter Movie at some point?
Holy shit, I forgot the Monster Hunter movie even existed.
This is what happens when you let greasy Randy Pitchford try to help produce a film based on one of the most popular games and the final result is dead it was a shot in the foot bad movie that makes the Rock’s version of doom and doom annihilation look like masterpieces.
#IBlameAviArad
Does Avi Arad have a fleet of doombots that just takes hits for him? How does this man continue to survive bomb project after bomb project.
#IBlameAviArad
I cannot wait for What Happened? about Minecraft The Movie next year.
I'll give you an answer. It wasn't made by people who actually care about Borderlands. It was made by people who *think* they know better. Spoiler Alert: They didn't.
Ahh, the Witcher Model
An even simpler answer: Randy Pitchford.
0:43 I'm just here to remind people that this shot has a crew member in it and it'll never go unnoticed by you from now on. I both thank and blame 24 Frames of Nick for bringing this to attention.
Wow.
Took me a couple looks, but it's the guy behind the vault cover pulling it back, huh?
Oh wow, yeah, that's pretty obvious. You can see the baseball cap and the mask the guy's wearing.
I'm wondering how hard it would be to fix that... There's a good solid(ish) colour backdrop and there's nothing happening around where the guy is, so I think it would have been a pretty easy masking/roto job. Maybe they were rushed and they didn't have time to finish up that shot?
Aw jeez 💀
15:31 _"oh-ho-ho! i'm fookin' NOT!"_ Amazing. love ya Matt!
I'm guessing a big chunk of the 120 million dollars went into Randy Pitchford's pocket
Remember, Borderlands only exists because he used (nearly all of) the funding given for another game on it.
Embezzling sounds about in line
Nah, it went into development for Borderlands 4.
@@CenturionOfficialhe's referring to what Rancidy Bitcheford did with Alien: Colonial Marines...
@tcpratt1660 I know what he is referring to. But Randy didn't pocket the extra money from Aliens CM. It got put towards the development of Borderlands.
I just want to know how big Randy's paycheck was for that producer role, because I guarantee you he got paid too much. ("Too much" in this case means "any amount above zero.")
I'm still mad about Aliens Colonial Marines, so nothing made me happier than this movie going down in flames.
Gearbox also planned a Deadpool-inspired Duke Nukem movie 6 years ago. It's currently in "pre-production" stage, just like Metal Gear movie.
The Borderlands Movies makes The Halo TV look good and the Old Super Mario Bros Movie look like a Masterpiece.
I would say while the 1993 Mario movie was bad but at least had choices so baffling that you can't help but enjoy it, props to Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper making best to what they had.
@@FOXZILLA5734 agreed, it's awful but at least it's *interesting*. blands the game the movie couldn't even manage that, having every interesting corner furiously filed down to an inoffensive nub to reach the mythical "general audience" in a story about hyperviolent treasure hunters who kill thousands for money
The Borderlands movie should have just been the group farming a boss for 2 hours
"Look, I'm just trying to put a positive spin on this..."
That's like asking a passenger on the Titanic that was rescued if they had an excellent dinner before the Iceberg.
Can’t wait for the concord whu happen
"NOT written by Craig Mazin!"
"That's a typo."
"For what? CROMBIE? JOMBIE? ZAMBAMBO?"
Now there's a callback!
Was looking forward to this episode and it delivered! Great work as always.
Any chance of an episode on The Crow (2024)? That movie's SIXTEEN years of development hell makes Borderlands almost look quaint by comparison.
Geriatriclands... produced by Strauss 'I AM GREED INCARNATE' Failmic and Randy 'I will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory' Pitchford was more than enough to ensure failure.
From the moment I saw the trailer I knew it would trip, roll, and blow up into a pile of indescribable goo.
It was already shindeiru
it's this simple
nobody using a pseudonym to distance themselves from a piece of work would ever admit to that being their pseudonym
If anything, I feel like this movie went EXACTLY like Borderlands..... loot system.
- Here's some crap we threw on the ground, none of it was what you wanted, make something of it.
- Hold on, let's nerf it to oblivion.
- Isn't a bland mindless repetitive grind fun!!!
You know, going off the insanely unreal bad writing Borderlands 3 and every Borderlands games after has, all the signs this movie was going to fail spectacularly were basically on the wall. I’m not even surprised.
The casting will always be the biggest wha happun to me. You have a game franchise with a cast of young treasure hunters that're full of crazy high frenetic energy... so you cast a bunch of 50 and 60 somethings that are pretty much on the opposite end of that frenetic energy spectrum. Ok.
The movie is a throwback to old school videogame adaptations, you know the ones, the kind that had exactly zilch to do with the original videogame because some hollywood idiots think they are just so far above the videogame industry (despite the videogame industry being far, far bigger than the movie industry).
I like to point out that “Joe Crombie” has a Twitter account and insists that he isn’t Craig. That’s how fucked up it is.
The definition of "Too many cooks in the kitchen, and no one knows how to cook"
So, the movie was partially written by a guy who might not exist?
Lol
You have to know your audience! In this case, the audience didn't exist, so they needed a writer who didn't exist to appeal to them!
What happened, Madame Webb
There's obviously a whole parade of red flags that have already been discussed to death about this movie, but I can't get over that apparently the main promotional image they sent out was essentially a BTS still of what could have been at least a better photo-shoot if they had only tried...
Why would you do a silhouette shot of the cast if you're just going to pull back so far that we can see the backlight screen?! Why would you make that the ONLY image you'd release?!
Directed by Antonio Margareeeeeetti.
The Borderlands movie? Oh boy, this is gonna be a treat to watch lol
What happened:Concord. It lasted less than a single month from release 😂😂😂
So Joe Crombie is the new Alan Smithee?
Eli Roths ego got in the way that's what happened
#IBlameAviArad
I think "Joe Crombie" is the writer's "Alan Smithee", just a (new) generic dump name for authors whose vision was ruined to use. Maybe *all* of the other writers, combined. Something like that. 😂
They really should have just gone with trying to make a movie using twos main storyline as a base rather than the mish mash we got here.
By all accounts any parts taken from the games were incredibly obvious to anyone who’s played them, so it’s not as if following one of the games more directly would have resulted in less surprises for the audience.
problem for Pre-Sequel if you ask me: It feels short, the difficulty scaling is not good, the difficulty BALANCE is not good, laser weapons sucks, and has severe lack of DLCs compared to its predecessors.
Good points? Sure: Playable Claptrap, Playable Athena, Playable Willhelm, Playable Nisha, Playable Jack (Double), and its singular expansion is a VERY fun one (not as fun as something like Assault on Dragon Keep, but that is a very high bar!)
Assault on Dragon Keep was so good that Gearbox made it a free, standalone game to promote Wonderlands. One of the few good moves the company's done.
The difficulty, especially at endgame is perfectly fine, probably the best in the franchise. It's just getting there that sucks and there isn't much payoff to getting to 70. It takes forever because there isn't very good xp farms and those that do exist still take longer than getting to 72/80 in 2. Getting to uvhm in the first place is a slog because you can very quickly become under leveled
extra like for the Darkman reference! two few people remember that one

Direct to What Happened?Seal of quality.
What made me know that this movie will be a failure, is Tiny Tina, actress interview stated that she didn't want to use the game as a template for her character, instead she wanted to be like Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad.
Joe Abercrombie is an author (excellent one at that) and his novel Best Served Cold is being adapted by Tim Miller so it makes sense. Given the quality of the movie, Joe could have opted for his own lil pseudonym
I fired up Borderlands 2 for the first time in ages when the movie came out, and the first screen before the main menu was an ad for this movie. But, like... not an informative one? Like, it was basically just a poster of the main characters, and all it said was "Borderlands", the title. No "In theaters now!" Or anything. If I didn't know about the film, I'd have thought it was some group that won a cosplay contest or something.
Already?! Damn!
Well that was fast
It should go without saying that if you aren't passionate about the art you are creating then you shouldn't create the art
Joe Crombie is the new Alan Smithee.
The one good thing that came out of the Borderlands movie was a what happened episode
And just like that more people saw this video than the movie. 🎉

I swear, this has been the most What Happend-y year to ever happen.
Frankly, Eli Roth is one of the worst directors ever. I hated every moment of Cabin Fever and Hostel was just plain terrible. I would much rather watch movies made by Michael Bay and Zach Snyder back-to-back than suffer through another Eli Roth film.
#IBlameAviArad
I can believe the collective pseudonym theory for Crombie. Kinda like the name Hatte Saburo for the Super Sentai series, except... ya know, NOT being "Wha Happun" fodder.
The gaming industry is the only industry where executives can be terrible at their jobs and flop so hard with their tscrew ups and never faces any consequences for it.
You look at people like Randy, the Ubisoft one, the blizzard ones, the American CEO at Playstation, Phil Spencer. How this people can be this incompetent and yet being able tp keep their job without getting demoted or fired.
It's insane
I just don’t understand why it didn’t just follow the first game. How hard is it to that? Then the casting? You got the oldest woman ever to play Lilith.
I can’t wait to see the Minecraft movie on here next, because yes that movie will suck.

Ready for the Megalopolis episode so you have to talk about Jon Voight 's crossbow willy
Cate Blanchett she took this because she wanted to work with Roth again and just wanted her first film after pandemic to be fun. Which is all well and good but even she can't pull off playing a character meant to be at least 25 years younger.
