    One thing I hate is how quickly they just kinda... sweep away concepts I'd love to see more of. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon alone opened up both entire civilisations of alternate universal beings, as well as alternate timeline merge shenanigans with Team Rainbow Rocket. I agree with the 'opening up the world to more than just battling' point. In SV, they had these really fun new storylines aside from the typical gym badges and elite four, but Arven and Penny's stories still ended with a regular boss battle, like they always have done before.
    Why could we not have had a huge Team Star base as a final area, or some kind of other test or dungeon to complete the Titans' story? They pushed so hard in pre-release to showcase the different types of exploration we could do, only for it all to end up being just ordinary Pokémon battles like always

      @@Markcrazeer But having it so any Pokemon switched into battle gains full experience, like the change made in Gen VI, means that you don't have to grind, you just switch Pokemon out a lot. I basically did no grinding in Pokemon Y and Alpha Sapphire, but I still had Exp. Share off. Exp. All encourages putting Pokemon in boxes more and using more random Pokemon rather than keeping a core "team" to avoid over-leveling (which I guess is why boxes are more accessible than ever beginning in Gen VIII). I'm not saying that style of play is bad, using a wider variety of Pokemon can be cool, but give us the option to play differently.

    Seriously, they figured out how to add an option to skip cutscenes, so adding an option to toggle EXP share should be simple. It's not like they overly care about game balance even with it forced, so not really an issue of 'but what about game balance'. Then again, the 'skip cutscenes' button cost several other small options so maybe they really don't know how to just add a toggleable button.

    I like that the EXP Share is permanent and shares it between all of the Pokémon in the party. I hated the old lead and switch method from earlier games, and this way I'm incentivized to try out more than just 6 Pokémon (which is what I do to counter being too overleveled). I do wish that NPC teams were stronger and had more Pokémon, because I've been noticing that a lot of recent games the NPCs always have just 1 or 2 Pokémon. Barely any have 3 and scarcely do they have 4 or more.
    One thing is heavily dislike is the switch back to breakable TMs. I never used TMs before Gen 5 because I was always worried that I used this one-in-game item (at least the non-purchasable ones) on a Pokémon that didn't really took advantage of it. Making them infinite use was great so that multiple Pokémon in my party could have it, and then for Post-Game use such as for VGC matches. The TR system them made in Gen 8 where some were breakable was a feature I liked because a lot of the moves were very powerful ones, but farming them again wasn't a hassle. I also dislike how Gen 9 made them worst by having to farm several different Pokémon parts as materials to construct the TMs again. Feels like such a hassle

    I actually like the breeding system we got in Scarlet and Violet. It's way way faster in producing eggs we want and need, especially with food and sandwiches that we can buy and make. We can also breed a ton right out the bat with strawberry ice cream in Los Platos. Idk, if we're talking about the freedom to explore and time: I'd argue that taking a minute or two of a picnic anywhere (that's flat outdoor land, of course) is much better than travelling all the way to a daycare center, go on an adventure, then go all the way back to a day care center that's out of the way is just more time consuming.

      I've put literally thousands of hours into breeding for various things since the mechanic was introduced in gen 2.
      I feel like the people saying "you could adventure while breeding" in past games are only breeding for the dex. If you're actually breeding for a purpose like IVs or shiny hunting, all you're going to be doing is driving back and forth in front of the daycare on your bicycle/ride pokemon.
      For example, when breeding for a shiny Kangaskhan in Omega Ruby, I spent the better part of a month doing nothing but holding the button down to drive around the Battle Resort, punctuated by occasionally pressing the A button to grab a new egg or drop a few hatchlings in the PC box. Not exactly compelling stuff.
      At least with the picnic breeding I can set up hatching power and make myself a cup of tea, and then come back to an nearly full box of eggs ready to take out and hatch.
      I don't think picnic breeding really stops the flow any more than past breeding did. The pokemon community just likes to constantly complain about anything changing while simultaneously whining that nothing changes.

      @@lostfelinepiesh6917 I agree with you. Meanwhile, Scarlet and Violet offers us the easiest and fastest way to get eggs. Make an egg power sandwich, leave switch on for a while, come back and yeah, have a full box or two of eggs. The effect is timer based too so it's easy to switch out pokemon for breeding. No need for PCs or paying (while both are not really a problem, that's a lot of time save too).

    Unpopular opinion probably but...:
    The Picnic-Way to get egg IS superior for so many reasons. Sure the only thing is that you need to stop with exploring but then again you can be in any location where you can set up a Picnic to make eggs. You also still have access to your box so it is easy enough to get in and out Pokémon for breeding and you can choose to make a sandwich with Egg-Power to make it even easier to get and hatch egg. So no I hope they let this be a thing so I do not need to travel to collect a Pokémon from a nursary...I can just have my specific Pokémon ready to make some egg and when I am done I just stop and get back my team again.

      Being "in any location" is pointless if you're only allowed to do one thing in that location; they might as well all be the same spot if there are no other capabilities outside of eggs. And if I need to play a sandwich minigame beforehand to make it easier, that doesn't exactly make it "easy" does it? I'll give you that remote access to withdrawing eggs or Pokemon would be nice, but those limitations aren't any worse then an overall pause button...

    • @Skrattmas
      @Skrattmas Год назад

      @@emperorcubone But to be fair...When anyone is hatching eggs they do just that until they don't want to anymore. So in a way you do pause what else you do weather you are in a daycare or not. This is just another way to not need specific places to go to just to fix with eggs. Now you just open up Picnic and fix with it rather than locking yourself to a location with a nursary. And not needing to talk to a NPC to get your eggs feels, for me better. Do I say the Picnic-Way is flawless? No but it is in my opinion a step in the right direction of independence in when you want to choose to breed Pokémon and when you want to do something else. In Sword and Shield you could get only one egg at the time and then wait and then another etc to get eggs. Now with some patience (Which you need anyway with breeding for specific Pokémon like shinies) you can get 5+ egg at the same time. That to me is great. I only see one downside and that is that I can't access my box DURING Picnic but need to pack up and then go to box to do stuff if I forgot stuff with my Pokémon. Otherwise I do love not to be locked to a location to get my eggs.

    And on the topic of early Ice Pokémon, there are two main reasons. The first is a relic of the past, being that dragon type only had two weaknesses, Ice had to be introduced late so you didn't have an instant solution to their only choice at a hard mode. Ever since then even dragon types are more common and even if they weren't, people wonder trade eggs now.
    The second is map design, which has cold regions of the map be late game areas, since you always start quite aways from it. Arguably this shouldn't work for Johto, you can go to the lake of rage quite early; Unova could have handled it with the winter season spawning ice types in extra places; and Galar is the northernmost place we've ever seen so it also could have done it; and Snom was the perfect thing for it, too.

    I'm not sure gamefreak even wants there to be replay value in pokemon. If they did they'd let you have multiple save slots. I know on the switch you can have multiple profiles but before that you'd either have to own multiple copies of the game or multiple systems if you wanted multiple saves.

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  Год назад

      The multiple save file thing has been a non-issue since Let's Go, because you can always create a second profile on the Switch and it starts the game from scratch.

      @@emperorcubone I'm aware, but that's nintendo solving a problem that gamefreak doesn't care about. The pre-switch games are evidence enough that they don't want you to play through a pokemon game more than once, they want you to keep playing on one save until the next game comes out.

    The character customization in Paldea is pitiful. None of the accessories match the outfit, so I just don’t wear any.
    Also the hair options are extremely limited. I have long hair and the only long hairstyle they have is as ugly as they could possibly make it.
    At least the face customization is fine. They actually give you quite a bit of options.

    For XP I don't have an issue. Just implement lvl scaling with certain roaming encounters set at higher lvls, like a fully evolved Pokemon.
    Character customization in remakes being limited is understandable, we should be happy to have gotten it at all in BDSP.
    As for the uniforms, they could just have players wear them for class, not the entire game.
    The teams can go either way.

    The mandatory Exp. Share completely destroyed the fun for me and the feeling of personal accomplishment every time I battled everywhere in the game so I can level up my Pokémon to 100! One feature I used to enjoy was the elite four and the champion and of course the battle towers with randomised trainers and Pokémon! However, Exp. Candies are the parting shot of bonding with your favourite mons on your journey of leveling up! Now you can just level them up within a few seconds and personally I get no pleasure with that and this is exactly the reason I constantly feel upset with the recent games and as a result I drop them aside!
    Don't get me wrong, I'm a working and grown up man and have very little time to play my games and level up my Pokémon with the traditional way, not to mention there are literally more than a thousand mons to choose from, but the truth is that the games have lost their magic for me because of the reasons I mentioned above!

    On the subject of the first one. I've felt for a while that if they really want to keep things fresh (which they do), they should take a break from trying to do the whole evil team thing. Alola got rid of the traditional gym challenge, so why not skip the evil team for a game or two so they can actually maybe make a decent one while giving us a break?
    But it's so much the tradition, when I pitched an idea for a Pokemon game to one of my friends and said I figured maybe we just don't do an evil team for it he said "You gotta have an evil team"

    To be fair on the last point, you COULD get an ice type early in Sword/Shield, you just have to be really lucky. On my first playthrough of Shield, it was snowing when I reached the Wild Area, and I found a Swinub and a Vanillite in the Rolling Fields. Granted, this is very situational, since the weather is completely random, but it was nice to have some options for the first gym.

    Honestly I disagree on Exp share being a negative feature, honestly it’s one of the best features in recent games.
    What I do take issue however is that the games didn’t up their difficulty for the Exp share to make sense. A lot of RPGs have evenly distributed Exp and still manage to have a balanced difficulty, or say another monster catcher in Shin Megami Tensei where Exp share is always on, but still manages to be one of the hardest RPG series I’ve ever played.
    The only reason I think people hate on Pokémon Exp share is because “change bad”, which is a shame because I think instead of the critique being on the Exp share, it should be on the general difficulty as a whole and how extremely hard it is to actually lose a match. Hallmarks like gyms should have a higher recommended Pokémon level, and the Pokémon should have better moves and more versatile abilities, how route trainers don’t have more than three or four pokemon. It’s not the Exp share that’s the issue, since it just removes the tedium of grinding, but instead the issue is how the difficulty didn’t change to better fit the convenience of Exp share rather than make it a breeze

      Come one, let's be fair; it's far more then "change bad," these players are legitimately upset that choices have been taken away from them, which is totally understandable! Why would having less options then previous games ever be a good thing?

    The ice type early game issue may come down to the moves, maybe. Ice type moves are generally good typing. Even the lower power ice type moves, arguably pretty strong against other Pokémon types that can be commonly found in the early game

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  Год назад +3

      Well, then let's alter the balance of the early game; add some Fire or Steel that's not usually there (kind of like how Ice isn't.)

    • @matthewkuscienko4616
      @matthewkuscienko4616 Год назад

      I personally think it has more to do with location than game balancing. They always tend to start you off in a warmer area, which leaves there with less opportunities to have an ice type appear early on. Even if balance somehow was the main issue, it could still be something of a struggle to use an ice type early on because of how bad off the type is defensively, and given that ice Pokemon often have a more defensive stat spread (despite it not working to their advantage), they'll often be forced to take a hit first; alternatively, if you wanted a more offensive, glass cannon style ice type, this would just create more problems with the risk of being knocked out becoming that much higher. Long story short, I don't think that balance is the main problem they are trying to avoid with having ice types being available early on

And the whole purpose of the game is to be a Pokémon trainer, not a Pokémon coach. If that means I have to train up my team on level 18 pokemon when the next gym is in the 40s, so be it.

    I will praise the Wild Area in Shield when it comes to early ice type access. At the first wild area, it was snowing for me there within the first three gyms and I managed to catch a Snorunt, and as soon as I could access the next segment of the Wild Area to pick up a Dawn Stone, I had myself a Froslass - a sure help against Allister and vital team member. Essentially, if there’s a weather/season system, snow or hail should bring out a few ice types for us to catch.
