Paddle Steamer Waverley, First Cruises Under The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society 1975.

Paddle Steamer Waverley's first public sailing under the newly formed Waverley Steam Navigation Company Ltd, took place on Saturday 24th May 1975. She had performed a special sailing two days earlier for invited guests and VIP’s that had helped get her back into service.
The Saturday sailing from Glasgow to Tarbert and Ardrishaig had been fully booked weeks in advance.
Unfortunately she sustained paddle wheel damage in Loch Fyne and did not get back to Glasgow until just before 4am on Sunday.

There was a lot more smoke and steam ejected from the funnels back then compared to today. Why is this?

Her boiler was pretty old & inefficient at that point, it was replaced in 1981 then again in the millennium rebuild with two boilers then again in 2020.
