People need to be aware, I started to use weighted rucksack in my 6 mile daily walks, usually 10Lb to 15Lb and got hip issues from it. So although I agree these things work, keep an eye out for sore joints especially, if you like me of an older generation, 66 years old. When my knees or hips start to feel stiff I stop using extra weights until the issue goes away. Young bloods may not feel these effects so much but that's another story in it's self

GoRuck type rucksacks are awful. I used one for a week and sent it back. As a long time backpacker, I switched to an actual backpack with a full suspension system and hip belt. Check out Gregory or Osprey. I have a 32L Gregory pack that is awesome loaded up with 30 lbs for rucking. The weight rides on my hips where it should be. Just keep the weight up and centered against your back otherwise you will get a sore lower back. Look up the proper way to load a backpack. I just pack the bottom of my pack with towels to get the weight up to the correct level. Good luck!

As a Northgym vest owner, I can say the comfort is spot on. It does come with extra shoulder padding which helps. Not noted in the video which is worth mentioning about Northgym is that it comes with 2 sizes of midsection straps so you can better adjust the tightness of the vest.
Also, the plates are side inserts, not bottom inserts which is nice since there is almost 0% chance the weight falls out, if you don't secure it as firmly as you should ( ie user error)

If you don't need a very specific weight but rather just want to find a way to throw weight into a vest you can go the route of one of the hollow plastic airsoft plates and fill it. Most people I saw online filled it with sand. Filled mine with cement and ended up a bit heavier than the sand. Each plate is a little off from each other but I wasn't really worried about getting everything to match or to a specific weight. They fit into the carriers like real ballistic plates do. The plastic plates were $12 a piece and from there whatever the cost of your fill (sand, cement, plaster, etc) that isn't going to cost a lot. Not the most durable but super cheap.

I like mine. It's just a vest, with thick shoulder straps, so the weight is spread out more, and my shoulders don't feel like they are being slowly cut through. It does not allow for full motion, in that putting my arms straight up, has a little less movement, but not fully restricted.
What I like is that the weights are tiny 1 kg bars, about the size of a Snickers bar.
this means I can add/remove as much as I want.
there are 4 rows of 5. 2 on the front, and 2 on the back, so it's as balanced as I make it.
Since it's short bars, it allows for flexible movements more than the plates do

Kensui is the best ever. If you have fractional plates you can microload certain BW exercises. You can alternate laoding do you are getting a broader rep range. Ex: Instead of adding 20lbs to your push-ups and going from a set of 20 to a set of 5... you add .5lbs every week or two and keeping the same rep range.

I run the dipping belt's chain through the nylon straps where the sand bags go in kind of clever way and I can put more weights on the chain. Just saying, you might be able to find a way to add more weight to your vest instead of shelling out for a heavier one.

  • @anthonyschutz7201

I can recommend making your own vest if you're barely going to use it. I started out by getting a cheap airsoft vest that could hold a plate for $35, and then took two small 10lb plates I already had and made a cardboard outline to keep them in place. Worked perfectly well for murph last year, and training leading up to it. I think some guy has a video on how to do it. It's super cheap and a good way either to have a almost never use vest, or a super cheap option to see if you want a nice one. It's pretty comfortable but I'm looking to upgrade because the thick round plates tend to make breathing a little difficult sometimes and the cardboard softens and allows for movement.

I weight 320 so I’m just getting started walking. My goal is to lose 10 lbs a month. I’ve been getting my food dialed in and walking hurts my shoulders and neck probably because poor posture and being so over weight. I have an Osprey backpacking pack I’m going to use after I lose some weight. I’m just gonna start with a water bottle in there and as I lose weight add the weight I lost to the pack. My pack was around $300 bucks and it has back support and mesh spacer to keep your back cool. Also has a waist strap to help control a weighted pack and help posture. I may look kinda weird with that pack on but who cares. They are designed way better than any of these over priced weight packs and I don’t backpack anymore so it will work great for me. I used to love packing but I moved to Florida and it hot AF here. I can handle walking around my neighborhood so I’ll just start there. Thanks for the video though.

Iron master just released their weighted vest which utilizes the adjustable dumbbell plates if you have that. Meaning you don’t have to spend extra money on weights and can change the weight easily. Haven’t tried the vest but was hoping it would’ve been included here. Good review though

Yeah! This guy knows what’s up with plates. The metal plates are heavy as all get out.
I just discovered that school book bags now come with a band on the inside for laptops and you can stack at least four plates the big 14 inch by whatever plates too And more on top of that outside of the laptop pouch.
Coated plates don’t slide either, so you don’t have to worry about them bashing you in the back of the head.

Have several vests now. Started with a sandbag vest, now use a condor vest(not the one in the video, upgraded one) and we cut our own weights out at home from plate steel with a torch. Clean them up and run them. Granted not everyone can do that.

Cap weight vest: for anyone that's walking and just wants a little bit extra weight this one is easily the best especially with the price. I have some very large clients and walking is about where they have to start and I have three of these vests and it's a super easy way to just get out and move with a little bit more weight. They are so not special but they are essential for my heaviest clients.

What a shame Titin went out of business. That is a great vest that first popped up on Shark Tank, but out of business after some stuff came out that the design may have been stolen. I fits snuggly like a tight t-shirt that had pockets/slots all over the body - chest, stomach, back, shoulders and arms. They were soft mushy well distributed weights that slid into the pockets and added up to 8 lbs. Because they were so snug to the body, they didn't slide up and down as you jumped and ran. I love mine

I'm assuming when you say flack jacker what you really mean are plate carrier that hold ballistic boy armor plating. It's surprising that you list the GORUCK RPC while completely missing the GORUCK "training weight vest" which is a de factor plate carrier. You can use whatever plates you want in that model. Second, one of the big ones you missed was the HRT "HRAC" plate carrier. it's completely modular so you can use a velcro cumberbun if you want over the buckles. But more importantly, you can zip attach a hydration bladder to it and run the hose through the velcro loops on the shoulder straps. IMO it's a game changer.

Still havent seen a video yet that makes me want to buy one of these.
I want one. But they are too expensive for what they do. I'm sure they are alot more comfortable than running around with a backpack full of water. But still.
20 dollar backpack and make it exactly and precisely the weight that i want. And as im going can empty water into my mouth to go further and further.
These are cool. And I do want one. I can't justify the expense though.

The way I look at it with the price of nice weight vests might as well buy an actual body armor vest with rifle plates. (If legal if your area) I use the AR 500 veritas and on sale you can get the carrier and the rifle plates for $200-$300. in total it is about 20lbs and bam you’ve got a carrier for fitness and for protection

Body armor (flak vest?) training is a must for the Tactical Games (where Crossfit meets 2 Gun). Men have a 15# slick (just the combined weight of just the plate carrier and plates) body armor requirement (women 12#).

The Rogue plate carrier should have shoulder padding without charging $20 extra for it. That's preposterous, and makes it that much more expensive than the 5.11 Trainer which is already padded. Then shipping is $35. Do North Gym or Wolf weight plates fit in the Rogue or 5.11 Trainer?

My Brute Force weight vest #trainwithsand has been a good option for me. I will say the top Velcro strap is not the easiest to get in and out of, but once your in it stays, running, burpee’s, pull-ups. Plus the weight can be adjusted in smaller increments than a plate carrier. New version is out but haven’t tried it yet.

What I like the most aside from others is that my vest doesn't cover my abdominal section which I find is nicer when working out your mids.
