Yeah ever since I picked up the Sony A7IV when it came out, I've only been using the Sony cards, V60 since I mainly do photos, a little timelapse and videos here and then. So extremely happy. My Sandisks cards are just my backups that I carry with me.

I use exclusively Sony Tough cards.
    I have the FX6 and two FX30s. I have 3x 256GB V60 SD, 2x 320GB CF Tough and 1x80GB CF Tough.
I switch between the cards as needed. When I shoot with a 2 or 3 camera setup, I use the CF as the main card for fast transfers and the SD for simultaneous backup recoding. With a single cam I just use the 2x 320GB CF.

The same thing happened to me with EXACTLY the same card! It broke and got jammed in my a6500. I was totally flat broke at the time and trying to build a RUclips channel and couldn't afford to damage my camera so didn't risk yanking it out. I ended up very carefully sliding a thin piece of metal into the card slot and was able to unjam it. Luckily I didn't damage the camera and it still works. I've recently upgraded to the a6700 and will never risk using one of those cards again!

As a hobbyist I don't pull the sd cards from my Sony HXR-NX80 that often and the sd to usb card reader I have is very easy to slide the card into. So consequently these two 4 year old cards (like yours, Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB) are still in like new condition. Any card can physically fail, so I think the users would be well advised to inspect the card to see if the sides are splitting or if the gold plated contacts are becoming loose. If so, then it's time to replace.

I've been using SanDisk Extreme Pro v90 cards for years with no issues. I have started using Sony Tough and ProGrade v90 cards for a while now. This past weekend I went to a Sony event at a local camera store in Los Angeles. I used one of my older SanDisk Extreme Pro v90 cards to shoot test footage with the a6700 I borrowed from the camera store during the event. The footage came out great. That a6700 is definitely on my wish list. That being said, I still stand by SanDisk.
I will pray to the SD Card Gods that you never have a card fail on you again. I can't promise any effect, as I haven't prayed to the SD Card Gods in a long, long time. In the meantime....Good Luck!! :P

My Sandisk used to scrape on metal guides inserting into Sony cameras inside the SD slot. I noticed it shaving little hair-thin slices off and dropping black dust into the SD slot. I realised that I didn't need to take the card out all the time - now I just leave cards in cameras and connect via USB to download the images.I did however change to Lexar, as I didn't like the fact the Sandisk plastic seemed so flaky.

I've had several Sandisk SD cards fall to bits on me with one catastrophic episode in my Canon ^d which necessitated me sending it into Canon to have the mainboard replaced. Yes I think that the Mac SD card reader slots are partly to blame as they are as you say very tight and some of them like on previous generations of the iMac are at the rear of the computer making it very difficult to align the card properly. I now use an external card reader and haven't had a problem since.

@@epicnova2010 I've seen some reports of Lexar v90 SD cards. But my experience with Lexar CF cards on Canon 5D IV, and Lexar v60 cards on Canon R6 I & II as been flawless.
I can't speak for v90 cards, because I've never used them, but I've heard reports that their write speed is slightly lower than advertised, which can cause issues when shooting high-frame rate in 4K. Lexar used to be the budget option to SanDisk, but now there's barely any price difference. I'd go with SanDisk or ProGrade even.

I literally only use the Apple SD card slot to transfer files. Makes sense that the frequent friction will naturally cause deterioration on the connecting points. Looks like Sony Tough might be the way to go. Good thing is SD cards are forever items that can be transferred when you upgrade other pieces, makes spending that extra cheese for long term consideration worth it. How much are memories worth? Even the expensive SD card is probably cheaper than buying another flight or booking another reservation😂

When I got back to the States, it started to make the ibis system crash and clunk every few seconds. I couldn't figure it out but I was about to send the camera for repairs but I tried a different card and the camera worked just like normal. working in a photo studio and work with so many sd card (probably 50-100 cards)due to redundancy.
What I am sure is Lexar and transcend are the worst. frequently fail, unreliable speed.
Sandisk is okay but not the best.
Then kingston canvas is slightly better than sandisk.
Then all other premium brand are almost the same, in a good way. like prograde, AVPro, Sony, etc. They DO fail, but in a less harmful way, and very rarely.
The sony one is tough, but only the outside shell. The inside components are the same as other premium cards, which means tough card can withstand more physical damage, but if you mess around the file and format, they do fail like other cards.
Just my humble opinion and experience.

I use Lexar Professional 1667x cards for both my Canon and my Sony ZV-E10. The card seldom comes out of the Canon as you can transfer everything via the USB cable but the Sony just doesn't do that so I have to take the card out to transfer the files. I think the Canon set up is so superior to Sony. The file structure is clean and straight forward and the Canon Software recognises new files that haven't been transferred yet and you can just select to move only them. Sony is a mess from the file structure on the cards to the sony software. Anyone that uses both will know exactly what I mean.

Most cards will get brittle after a while - which is why I switched to the tough ones

My horror story is that I'm one of those icky new gen spoiled children who used a tonne of cellphones before ever buying an actual camera and so... never actually remove my sdcards, and habitually copy everything out via usb cable ._.

That tough card is a manly card for men, like cowboys and construction workers and tech youtubers.

Wes Perry who has an engineering degree, recommends the ProGrade Digital cards over the Sony Tough cards.

I used to use the Sony Tough cards but switched to ProGrade Digital. The disadvantage of the ProGrade Digital Type A cards is the maximum capacity of 160GB.

As a long time SanDisk user, these horror stories (SD cards breaking apart, rampant SSD failures) have made me decide to not buy anything from them unless something drastic changes.

One thing I do is that I treat my SD cards like internal storage. I buy them brand new when I get a new camera, and they stay in there the entire life of the camera (or until I sell it). I make sure I buy the fastest and largest cards I can afford, which means I never have to swap them out during a gig. I also hook my cameras up directly when I transfer files. Effectively I'm eliminating 90% of the potential failures SD cards have, which come from wear/tear. I realize that doesn't help you much, because you are constantly reviewing new cameras.

Is Pergear even a real manufacturer? I thought they were a third party seller that sells stuff on Amazon.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

Ha - They’re a real company. They are actually a big store that sells many brands and they make some of their own items like lenses, batteries and cards

      @blackbugmedia 9 месяцев назад

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I know they’re the distributor of Viltrox and TTArtisan and etc. but I just can’t trust them as a manufacturer yet. I know they have their own stuff but how do we know it’s not just rebranded third party items?

I wish they would just have high speed storage built into the cameras.

What are you people doing to rip out an sd slot? If something fragile is stuck do you just use all your strength to rip on it? 😂😂

ad?? because I recommend buying cards that don't break? Isn't that an anti-ad? I also asked anyone in the video if they know of other tough, resilient cards to put them in the comment section.
