Guys it’s ok! I’m deathly afraid of needles and I had to get my first covid shot today, it was really quick and I had anxiety attacks for nothing. And the lady giving the shot was so nice and soothing, whoever is reading this I just know you can do it if I can :)
Update 2024: I’ve now experienced getting my blood drawn, it’s worst then getting a shot… I recommend just looking away ik it’s hard but you can do it! 💪

@@hihihihi.2255 They're right, you won't even feel it! The most you'll ever feel is the tiniest pinch in existence, and it won't even bother you, it'll be over in one second. I have pretty bad tolerance to pain but I can say with full confidence that OP is 100% right.

I once had a blood test where the "nurse" wasn't exactly gentle taking it out. It usually only stings going in. It did hurt but not too bad. I love it when I get someone who is so gentle I don't feel a thing!

Omg i thought i was the ONLY one. weting that area first and then the air hits it now it feels like a cooling and raw sensation and then the smell of the alcohol to ugh and knowing something pointy and sharp is about to go DIRECTLY INSIDE that area which you already know hurts😩😨😱😭😷🤒 its LITERALLY like they are trying to kill you in your mind. but thank god i am over it NOW.

My strategy is to close my eyes and put my other hand over my closed eyes and count down from 100 by 2's, it really helps!

Why is it that when I tell somebody I have a fear of needles they always say "don't worry it doesn't hurt" "it's not like it hurts" "it doesn't even hurt, what's the big deal" IT'S NOT THE GODDAMN PAIN I KNOW NEEDLES DON'T HURT! I have a very high pain tolerance and throughout my life I have always taken pain relatively silently and rarely cried. Needles are nothing, I don't pass out when I break a bone, yet I pass out when I watch somebody put a needle in my hand. It's not the pain, what I find unsettling is the fact that somebody is sticking a foreign object into my body and pushing more fluids into an already full vein or just letting it sit there while it takes stuff out of me.

It's not the pain that I have a problem with. It's the thought that "I am about to get stabbed by a needle."
This is a special case for me because I sometimes faint after I get my shots.

Ik it’s annoying to just have to wait but when I was younger, like age 12 up til i was like 16 I was absolutely terrified of needles and I would cry and panic at the thought of getting poked with one. How do you do it
The sight and thought of a needle going through my skin makes me nearly pass out but I really want a tattoo so I'm stuck lol
I'm literally crying from stress and terror rn knowing I'll have to get a shot this week but I've had a few tattoos so far and they were really doable. The needle in tattooing doesn't even go through the skin, it's just the surface. Its basically just carpet burn with ink, except carpet burn is more of a bitch. I've scraped my knee worse than what a tattoo does. That knowledge somehow makes all the difference to my brain, "the needle doesn't even go through". It's just like someone is very persistent at scratching you with their fingernail in the same place over and over. Unpleasant and annoying, sure but definetely a vastly different feeling than having a needle actually pierce the skin for blood work or shots.
My first tattoo is tiny, basically just a line on my ankle, it was done in less than 10 minutes and I was prepared for the worst pain of my life + needle phobia so I didn't look. Walked out of the shop super surprised at how it didn't live up to my worst nightmares at all. Obv longer tattoos are more of a bitch but once the needle phobia itself proved to not apply in this the pain is bearable, I've been through way worse pain from injuries and teeth work and I keep holding on to that thought, focusing again on the fact that at least the pain isn't in my body but only on the surface and it will be over soon

ifrnks shots don’t hurt, but blood tests OH those hurt. I got my first one a while ago and apparently I got a bad nurse and it was horrible. She had it in there for so long and it was just. A pinch when she put it in first so I was like ok and then she freaking kept it in there for like 3 mins and I was like WUT r u DOIJGNGNGNGNG and then she did that 2 MORE TIMES cuz she couldn’t get blood and also the longer it’s in the more it keeps hurting

I probably have to have a blood test this year, since it's been two years since I've had a cholesterol test. Usually, I scream so hard when I get a needle sting, especially in the top of my hand! Owie that hurts! I've just received Buzzy, a neat little machine that combines cold and vibration, and I sure can't wait to try it out at my next checkup. I sure hope it works to eliminate the pain of needle stings! I sure hope it works as good, or even better than Lidocaine!

It's wierd, i once stepped into a ground wasp nest, and got about 40 stings all over my body ,I was barely afraid and

Just do arm stretches if your arm hurts. It helped me and my arm felt better before Christmas. This was December 18th I got my flu shot.

my friend purposely crashed a bike into me and I slit my arm open on it and ended up getting stitches..didn't cry. I fell down while carrying in groceries containing glass bottles, slammed my hand into a pile of glass shards, dirt, and concrete..didn't cry. I fell down while running at a public pool, sliced my knee open on the side of the pool, white stuff started pouring out of the cut..didn't cry. poked a deep bloody hole into my finger with a hand drill..didn't cry. didn't feel a sewing needle at first against my thumb and kept pushing my thumb further and further into the needle..didn't cry.
an experienced and trained medical professional cleans my arm, then quickly injects me with something that may stop me from dying from a deadly disease, it only hurts for a second..and I cry uncontrollably for a week.

You get a line of kids who are terrified and then a line who just got the injection and realised it was fine.
I have stretched ears thinking it would conquer my fear of needles. But the concept of needles entering your muscles is a whole different thing. This fear sucks!
As someone who has quite the experience getting needles and who had overcome a fear of needles (yes I was once that screaming kid bawling their eyes out) some advice I can give you is to not think about it. In my opinion the nerves before is worse than the actual needle itself. I just got blood work done yesterday and let me tell you it was not bad at all. I didn’t think much of it, stayed calm, and even made some conversation with the nurse. It’s really not anything to freak out over, just the calmer you are the less you will feel it.
"Don't think about it" is about as effective as telling a kid to ignore a bully that's in his face.
I tried that, being calm, then when I saw the needle, I just screamed my lungs out!
not so long ago i also had blood work and i tried to stay as calm as possible, but i saw the needle i moved as much as i could and screamed, 2 doctors had to grab me, when suddenly i stopped and i calmed down in seconds

Some tips for those who are scared of shots!
(These are what helped my sister get over her shots and what I tell her every time she has to get one.)
- don’t look at the needle when they give it to you
- don’t stress about the appointment because you get in your head! (It’s better just to get there and get it done
- Remember it will be over in two seconds
- bring along a stuffed animal, or music. Distract yourself!
- DO NOT TENSE YOUR MUSCLES!! It makes it hurt so much worse! Just let your arm relax and rest your hand on your leg or let it hang. Try to keep it as numb as possible

I’m crying watching this. My dad and my brother will just say “these people are just being dramatic. They don’t even hurt” to people stressing about needles while I’m in front of them.
I hate the feeling of the needle going into my arm. It doesn’t feel natural. But the bit after it is amazing knowing that you’ve had them.
The moment I see a needle in its wrapper I ascend into another reality.

Are you a baby? No,so you can't compare your pain tolerance and a baby's. The older you are,the more experienced with pain you are,the biggest your pain tolerance is. A few months old baby can't have any kind of pain tolerance,they're way too young.

so anyways, i got my shot. the best part of it is that it’s really fast! when you take the shot, you feel overwhelmed at first, but it disappears in an instant. taking shots is better than falling over a rock and getting sent to the hospital

I'm legit sure I have PTSD because of it. I've been restrained and sometimes I'll get a flashback to my first time getting bloodwork and I'll legit tear up. I HATE needles. I don't say hate often either.
Whenever a nurse asks if I am scared of shots I always say '' Oh no, its not like you're sticking an inch long piece of sharp metal into my arm" I can easily handle the pain its just the psychological effect of something being under my skin. I usually just say the national anthem skipping 1 word

If you look away, relax your arm as much as possible and let it come to you, then it's not painful at all. It goes in, and you feel it go in, but it doesn't stay in for long. It comes out before it can get painful.

I was talking with the doctor telling her one go to just do it and I was counting from 3 and she just stuck me at 2 and it’s not the pain or the sight of the needle really. It’s that I can feel it moving through my veins for a good few seconds. I thanked her because it made it easier
. I felt great because of how well it went. I got righty outside the building when all of the sudden I was losing my vision literally. I sat on a bench and was about to pass out when my dad got me up and walked me into the car. We got food and went home. I got really sick and for some reason had really bad bruising and swelling from the injection. And yet it was the smoothest vaccination I ever had. I was 14 then btw

Don't take it the wrong way, I bet the reason why he laughed is because he knows that next year, your fear of dying from not getting your shot will be bigger than your fear of needles.

@@notar2123, I am afraid you are incorrect. I am 21. I have not gotten any shots or blood draws since I was 16 and never will again. For some of us, it really is that bad. I consider the risk of death from disease acceptable considering the alternative, and have only two exceptions to this:
A: I am unconscious, and cannot feel it.
B: I will die shortly without it.
So yes, call me a fool or whatever you wish, but the fact remains that I'm too scared of needles to get shots or have blood taken. That doctor was very rude and insensitive to Kotori, and should've tried to understand the phobia, as there are far too many doctors who have the fear of needles=crybaby who needs to grow up mentality. If you don't have the phobia, it's hard to understand.

You know that one time where you were scared of getting shot and making a big deal about it but right after getting the shot it didn’t hurt as much
I had my first shot at school and I fainted. I was fine when I was having it done, I stood up and I was fine, I walked over to my bag and I was fine, and then I started getting dizzy when I started putting my cardigan on, then I fainted. The nurses said it was because I didn't have any breakfast (I forgot I was having jabs that day) but I think it was just my phobia of needles. Maybe having breakfast would've helped idk. Next year I've gotta have a jab in each arm at the same time and I'm not gonna be able to deal with that
Same happened to me but I had breakfast! XD After having it done my face went from white to green then grey followed by me going really lightheaded. Luckily my teacher noticed and dragged me over to the mats before I completely passed out. I'm having my first blood test done tomorrow and I have no idea how I'll react.

Okay. I'm a 12 year old girl educated on shots. I have never gotten my HPV shots because I was too scared when I was 11. I have to get my shots on Friday but whenever I try to I burst into tears and I cry and Hyperventilate. I've been going to a psychiatrist and talking to her but I know that "mind over matter" or "go to your happy place" doesn't work on me. I'm extremely scared and anxious, so scared to the point I can't even breathe. I'm the type of person who likes to take things SO and easy. My parents just want to rush me in there, get it and out. But when I got my meningitis shot they had to pin me down (I was 11...) when they pinned me down the scratched my arm with the needle and it hurt extremely bad. I am so terrified. And everyone I asked says, "Oh it doesn't hurt at all." But I'm literally different. I freak myself out and my mind acts like its gonna hurt, like last time. If anyone knows anything that can help, please comment.. I'm very scared.

VanillaWhisper I might be late and I am a guy and not a girl but maybe I can help. I'm scared of needles too, and I'll admit that I actually cried getting my first shots in grade 6 (I also have to get my grade 9 shots on Thursday haha). Whenever we see needles, we just think of them piercing the skin and hurting real bad when in reality, it's a tiny pinch or completely painless. When you're getting shots, try focusing on something else other than the needle. Maybe think of a song or something in your head (or actually listen to music while you're getting them if you're allowed). Last thing is that you shouldn't think "This shot's going to hurt", but more of "I'm going to get this vaccination and it will not hurt". I'm not sure if this helped you at all but I'm hoping it did. I also hope that if you've already gotten your shots, that it went well :)
JotheGr3at I can't think in my head that it won't hurt cause when I was younger the country I used to be in for some reason the shots are absolutely painful but now I had to move country and I took one since then it didn't hurt as much. also if I KNOW something hurts I won't be able to tell my brain to say "it's not gonna hurt" cause after I'll say "URGH why I saying this it'll never trick my brain and it's gonna hurt" so yea...
i have extremely bad anxiety about needles but i'm learning to get over it, happy places and distractions don't work, just close your eyes and bring some of your favorite candy. If you eat the candy while getting the shots it is impossible to be sad because candy actually forces your brain to be happy. Also, make a joke in your head, or just picture memes. I still get extreme anxiety and whenever someone says shot or vaccine I get really stressed out. there no cure for that but there are plenty of things you can do to take shots.
EchoPaw I’m 12 but never got it because my moms radiologist has a daughter who got it a few years ago and 4 hours later she was paralyzed and in a coma for a month she is not letting me get the shot for that reason

Here is my story :
I needed to take a blood test in 4th grade and I was okay about it.I went there,sat on the chair calmly,the nurse did what she needed to do,all in a minute.I wasn't scared at all,I just almost passed out beacuse the lack of sugar.
Two years later,around 6th grade,I needed to take a blood test.When I heard mom I was scared and I cried,I was so scared of just hearing by it.When I needed to take the blood test,I cried and when the nurses grabbed my hands I would always take my hand away,and in that moment,she grabbed me and it felt like torture.I looked away,and when she put the needle in my vein the pain was so strong,but it wad way worse than it was in the 4th grade.Then,I almost passed out,not beacuse the lack of sugar (that just made it worse), it was 80% beacuse of my phobia.All that day my hand was hurting and it wad low-kew paralized.I was so traumatized,I never wanted to take a blood test ever AGAIN.
But,guess what? Mom told me I needed to take ANOTHER blood test.I tried to keep calm but when I entered the nurse's room I was balling my eyes out,the nurses tried to take my blood test but I was dragging my hand away everytime they touched my hand just a little.Finally,I didn't take a blood test and I got in a fight with my mom.
I don't know how this phobia appeared in my life out of nowhere,before these blood tests I had no problem and i felt 0 fear...
