  • We show children having a general anaesthetic before their operation. The anaesthetist explains what will happen, how they make sure you are asleep during your operation and how quickly you will wake up again. There are different ways of getting a general aneasthetic: some children receive the medication through a cannula in their hand and others use a face mask. The anaesthetist will talk to the child and parent about the best way for them to go to sleep for their operation. Rory tells us how he felt going to sleep and waking up after his operation.
The What? Why? Children in Hospital charity makes videos about hospital tests and treatments to help parents and children prepare for hospital and show them what will happen.
