ANOTHER WASTED LIFE
(Rhiannon Giddens/Bhi Bhiman)
Another day another youth
Another story-mangled truth
The commentary uncouth and full of cloudy grease
Does it matter what the crime
If indeed there was this time
He’s given solitary time
An institutional caprice
It’s a torture of the soul
The narrow confines of control
Thrown down the stinking hole with no hope of release
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life
Things then finally understood
He’s returned but damaged goods
He fought hard as he could until he saw the last release
Another day another murder
A punishment taken further
A surrender without murmur God trust his soul is at peace
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life
It’s just another wasted life

It was a blessing to be part of this amazing video. Hopefully the message reaches the masses 🙏🏿💜
My dad is currently locked away for something he did not commit at all! This song touches me in another way ❤
In the 60’s and 70’s, folk music raised our consciousness to the systemic injustice in our society and inspired us to act. “Blowing in the Wind” was the anthem for our demonstrations and marches. Seeger, Guthrie, Biaz, Dillon, even Peter, Paul and Mary are silent now. But, I heard Rhiannon Giddens sing and I’m ready to get on board the peace train. “We shall overcome.”
Thank you for using your voice to tell these stories of injustice.
Truth!!!! I have a nephew and a little brother currently locked up for something they didn't do, both were sentenced to 43 years in prison when they were 17 & 18 years old. They're now 32 and 28 years old
I found out about Rhiannon last night on The Daily Show, and I can't believe I haven't heard about her before, and can't stop listening and sharing her music with everyone I know!
Thank you everyone involved with this project for using your time, talents, and energy to bring visibility to the Injustice System and those who were & are unjustly imprisoned.
Thanx Rhiannon Giddens and PA Innocence Project for highlighting our traumatic experiences and prosecuting our perpetrators in an artful and serious manner. Although that same humanity wasn’t, and still isn’t, we are humanly holding them accountable
Awesome message! Thank you for posting, Rhiannon!
Thank you so much for reminding me about this video during your Mesa AZ concert. Trying to lift it in the algorithm 💖
I pray we wake up & I pray these men know peace. Thank you with love
just stunning, so much power to the people who had to endure such injustices...I feel so sorry for them...great song, strong woman...use your voice against the wrong in the world...all the best to everyone, with warmth from Vienna/Austria
So much pain in that room. I hope there is enough healing. Thank you.
I’ve known of Kalief Browder story. And it’s absolutely heartbreaking. But this song that she wrote, inspired by that story, is so beautiful so heartbreaking and so important. And all of these men that she brought together, just a fraction of people who have been exonerated or are still needing to be, we should all know their stories too.
thank you for using your voice and talents for seeking justice........
Fantastic voice! Powerful message! Thank you!
I was at the show in vicar Street Sunday evening 3rd time seeing this amazing artist incredible band what a show
😢😢😢😢😢😢💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 If this Truthful so Sad Song does not bring a tear to your eyes or break your heart you must not be human.....So truthfully Touching.. Thank you Rhiannon for You!!❤
Rihannon this is so so heart breaking and so deeply moving - I can’t begin to understand the feelings of desperation all these men must have gone through and still carry somewhere in their beings - this is more than a tragedy. - your voice is so incredible and heart opening - I can feel it’s vibration in every cell of my body - thank you to you and to the bravery of these men and to everyone involved in speaking out and standing up for injustice…
This is phenomenal 🪶
There are NO words!!
Rhiannon I stand with you and the falsely accused whom will reunite with justice and rightous belongings in time. Standing with our Brothers and Sisters through start and beyond is vital and concrete. I'm a string player a brother and a supporter. My color does not matter as does anyones. We are all of the human race. Don't let them divide US !!!!
Sitting with great anticipation. Your music has always been exemplary and deeply moving so far, no reason to expect different now. Thank you. 😊
Heartbreaking presentation and singing. Thank you Innocence Project and Rhiannon for adding your powerful voice.
Rhiannon Giddens is a force of nature. This is truly powerful!
You said to share. I did. I am. Thank you for tonight at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas. You are supremely talented and generous. We must tell the real history-and do better by Black folks and native Americans (shout out to the amazing Charly Lowry). Thank you for your activism! Your story telling IS truth telling. I am right there with you. ❤️
Thank you Ms. Rhiannon ! It remains too easy for any of us black males to be the next one.
So beautifully done, Rhiannon, and so sadly necessary.
Thank you, great artist, greater human being...
Very well done and it sends a very important message to everyone. Great job Rhiannon and the production crew!
Profound message - thank you Rhiannon for opening this essential conversation that impacts tens of thousands of families. I'm going to share this video with families I know who lived this pain. Found your music a few months ago and am deeply grateful for your heart to communicate wisdom. Cheering your voice and message
Thank you
Congratulations on the Pulitzer, Rhiannon. I love your duet with Jason Isbell in Yet To Be. I admire his body of work too, including in his recent and beautifully named movie.
You have a powerful voice, literally and figuratively, and my, how you've grown it.
Thank you for using your platform for this terribly important issue and to as you so beautifully said, ‘take the conversation one step further’. And thank you to these amazing people featured here.
Beautiful soul ❤
Thanks for adding a voice to the voiceless Rihannon. Courage!
The Daily Show brought me here! Very meaningful music. 👍
Same 💚
Thank you for your wonderful music. I first heard you on a slavery abolition radio show called Abolition Today. The song was Julie. I was blown away with you. Thank you for this incredible song. ❤
Powerful and moving. Thank you!
I really appreciate your passion and vision.
Simply beautiful; and what a way to tell a story like this
Grateful for your witness. We first heard you in Norwich, UK May 2023. We were there for 650th Anniversary of Revelations of Divine Love from Julian, You embody that love that thirsts for justice.
💔
It's very thought provoking to see a video such as this. I'm currently reading John Grisham's non-fiction book "The Innocent Man", which deals with people wrongly convicted, some on death row, in Oklahoma. Judges, lawyers and the police need to be held accountable for these tragic mistakes. The death penalty should be abolished. Thanks, Rhiannon for publicizing this issue.
This is an important piece of music, thank you so much. Raise the voice of the suppressed.
Just heard this on WXPN
Great message and an amazing person!
Impactful video.
This message is powerful and injustice needs to stop BEFORE innocent people are incarcerated for crimes that they did not commit, thanks for bringing this to the forefront. R.I.P. Kalief Browder a shameful loss of life END Wrongful Convictions!
This is a monumental video with a deep message about our contemporary problem with Black victims of brutality.
😢❤
Watching this video, with the actual men who'd been wrongly convicted, made me sick to my stomach, the same reaction I had to the documentary 13th. Sick because these things are being done in my name with the full force of the government. Thank you, Rhiannon Giddens and the Innocence Projects for helping these innocent men.
I can’t believe what I just heard. I guess this is a rare example of a larger than life song
Thank you, Rhiannon for bringing another clear composition in music and lyrics to attend to in our much need conscious awareness right now for us to wake up to our kids and adults both innocently imprisoned by what we ignore in them.
Heartbreaking 😢
I hope that Justin will be on the video. It was great to hear him in College Park
#Respect thank you for your use of art as a catalyst for social change!
What a good concert yesterday in Nijmegen. The band played this impressive song. I'm a new fan.
What a powerful video and song that addresses a long standing issue.
Wonderful we all need your voice
😍😍💞💜💓💚🙏🙏🙏
Incredibly moving. Everyone deserves justice in America but never at the hands of the wrongfully accused by lazy detectives and lawyers. Human life is our most precious gift.
Excellent ❤
Excellent performance of this song on The Daily Show as well!
Much appreciated
So scary..could happen to any of us...as we have witnessed...
This song was featured on KXCI 91.3 in Tucson

Humans are One Species. One Love.
If the 99% protected the 99%. There would not be slavery.
This is exactly why I don't leave the house. .....he just fit the description, why did they defund all the good cops?
👍
I was found gulty of a misdemeanor for using weapons while intoxicated. I blew a 0.0 after my brother in law beat me repeatedly in the head with my own gun. He was the victim according to the judge yet I had a traumatic brain injury and had my scalp stapled back in place.
Let’s get the innocent out of prison…and make sure the guilty serve their full sentences.
I really like the political tone of this. Unlike in the '60s, here are not enough artists out there today willing to get controversial. I get it. No one wants to get cancelled.
💙🩵💙💜🩵🤎💛🖤🤎
Our authorities won't think about this logic.
It's sad if someone is wrongfully convicted. Unfortunately, with the amount of crime in this country today, I'm more concerned about the tens of thousands of criminals who never have to answer for their crimes. Nonetheless, I love your voice.
Do you worry about criminals who are never caught because some innocent person has already been falsely convicted of the crime?
You got shares in private Prison's . ?
Ah, the irony. I have just been asked to turn this down. 🙄
Free Palestine 🇵🇸
There’s no way to edit my comment below so
let me amend it to say Black folks-African Americans. ❤️
That ain't exactly Alicia Keys, more like, "Off Keys!"
😢we must recognize this is just another form of the slave/master paradigm by a few masters in their towers of Babel Institutions loaded with gold who care about no one but getting more gold for only themselves! Dr Darryl Luke Pokea, Musician, Psychologist
Una de las mejores voces que existen en todo el mundo.
