Chicago is known for their horn section, their bass player Peter Cetera, keyboardist Robert Lamm, guitarist Terry Kath who are great musicians in their own right but that drummer Danny Serephine put it all together. Old Chicago was best for me with this line up. When I was on high school back in the 70’s I was studying a trade but across the street was a school call “High School for the Performing and Visual Arts” or as everyone knew as HSPVA. Their band was playing Chicago’s music and I remember jammin out to these songs.
Dude, that was astounding. I started the video, and only after it ended I realized I hadn't moved a muscle until it ended. Incredible. Danny would be proud. So would Terry.
Came here after watching Rick Beato “ What Makes This Song Great” we’re he breaks down this song down. I had to see the drums being played. You did an awesome job.
Beautiful 32nd note strokes! And just overall spot on. This is obviously a difficult song to play and you hit everything including the ghost notes. Outstanding job.
Nicely done my man. The key in my view are those 32nd notes and the rests in advance of the crashes. Hard to not play right through those. Nice spaces in your playing.
Excellent drum cover, not an easy song to play. You resemble Joe Morello with a melding of Ed Greene, Jim Gordon, Steve Gadd, Danny Seraphine , Jeff Porcaro and Bernard Purdy with JR Robinson. Keep them coming.
@@tate_berkey You're welcome.....the thing is I watched pretty much almost all "Make me smile" drum cover on RUclips and you're drum sounds specially your snare sound is pretty much the tone i'm looking for(the Seraphine tone) ...again excellent job!!
Nice!! That Supraphonic sings too. Forgot all about this song until recently. You do it justice. Danny said when he composed the big fill he thought "How would Gene or Buddy do it?". Salut.
Appreciate it! The snare drum I'm using here is actually not a Supra, but rather an 8 lug chrome-plated steel "Rocker" from the 90s. A testament to the drum's quality though!
Rewatching today. This was a fine place for a "heck yeah! Way to go!" Enjoy viewing your work. Really like the technique most of all. It's something I strive for.
I am just asking, Could ya do Neil Peart. I think that you are having a great time at your work. I very much appreciate what you do. I played B flat Tenor Sax. Back in the day. Keep up the great work my friend. You do a fabulous job of sharing your skill. Take care my friend. 👍🙋🏻♂️🐈👌
That song is pretty hard to play because of the different sequences you have to play, he couldn't have played it any better very very good. I've been playing drums now for 30 yrs & i must say he was good. 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁, LUDWIG RULES.
Excellent Tate !!! Danny Seraphine is inside you 👏👏👏👏
That was beautiful,as a drummer myself,you did marvelous,excellent cover, 2 thumbs up (if a have 3..will B 3😁❤️).

Very good. Enjoyed it. Listened to this countless times as a teenager.
That was excellent !! What I liked best was your intro into the ending. As close to the record as you can get.
I tried!
Hands down, it’s all straight-up Outstanding...👍🏻
Thanks Boe!
Yes
From a drummer in his seventies started at age 5, one of the best and perfect rendition of the song. Danny would be proud. Cudos!

Absolutely killed it at 3:20! Really great cover!
Thanks Vincent!
Nicely done my man. The key in my view are those 32nd notes and the rests in advance of the crashes. Hard to not play right through those. Nice spaces in your playing.
Thanks. Pacing is key for songs like this where there are fast fills right before the crashes you're talking about. Don't want to rush them!
Excellent drum cover, not an easy song to play. You resemble Joe Morello with a melding of Ed Greene, Jim Gordon, Steve Gadd, Danny Seraphine , Jeff Porcaro and Bernard Purdy with JR Robinson. Keep them coming.
Thanks Mervin!
Outstanding!!! 5-stars!!!
Well done my man. Well done. Always loved this tune.
Thanks Keith!
David Seraphine is one of the most underated drummers of all time. Hearing the intro and outro of this song really (i cant resist) make me smile
