  • Next to the main gate (currently gone and under restoration - Watch the video about it: • The Gate of the Chatea... , on either side, there are 2 pavilions that needed total restoration.
I'm happy to share with you a tour of one of them (restoration completed), which I call the "Winter Garden" (Jardin d'Hiver in French).
I hope you enjoy this episode, and stay tuned (and subscribe!) if you'd like to see the other pavilion, where I've created my new "home" when I come to Dampierre. Until the château is ready...in a few years!

Books and humidity are a disaster waiting to happen.
Not so sure making your winter garden with a library is a good plan. (I am a bibliophile) I like books more than people.
    Thank you for the video

As a tile setter here in the USA, I really liked terracotta floors. Handmade French, squares and arrows "pickets) octogons and dots etc. To make them antique, using wood stains in greens, blacks and browns rubbed in by hand, before sealing tile gave it the two hundred year look. Also like you, i would pick any tile with paw or the mans print, and place in prominant spot. I said this is a wild animal or the print of the man who formed the tile.

You can now also get recycled terra cotta tiles from Eastern Europe. We got them from a San Francisco showroom a few years ago (before the city went bonkers) and used them in a patio project.

It’s wonderful how much thought you are putting into this magnificent property. What you could do with that bench is used it as a side table and place an old garden statue or similar on it with a small stack of beautiful illustrated garden design books. An addition of a big comfy sofa would add extra seating and a warm, inviting and relaxed feel to the room. Sorry I can’t help myself, I have always had a passion for design. Best wishes from Australia

I think there are antique settees that were called conversation or "courting" settees where the chairs faced in opposite directions and the backs of the connected chairs formed and 'S'. I've seen ones done in cane which would match the garden theme and would be a charming addition to the room.

It's magnificent! You did a lovely job with the trellis design. I've been thinking about doing something similar in my living room. I'm very curious about the lightbulbs you chose. I've been using the old fashioned candelabra bulbs but they're being phased out. Everything is on dimmer switches because I prefer soft lighting. Are your bulbs able to be dimmed?

I love what you've done with the place.
The marble table reminds me of the top two thirds of a fireplace mantle, but I really like it. I suggest using it to display plants and l'objet d'art.
I can't speak to historical accuracy, but I especially like growing orchids. What fabulous displays. There are so many beautiful ones that are also easy to grow. They can be so forgiving.
Ferns are lovely too. Maiden Hair are so delicate looking, but pretty tough as ferns go. Tree ferns are a real statement.
Palms and cycads are always a good choice.
I love begonias too. There are a thousand amazing and exotic choices that also provide delicate blossoms.
A pot of clumping bamboo adds a little hint of Asia. There are varieties that are diminutive enough fot the room.
I love the shade of green that you chose. The latticework is so charming.
How will you protect the books from molding or spoiling in a room that will likely be a bit more humid than your average library? Perhaps something like a humidor?
Great choice in furniture. I love the marine creatures.
    Overall, it's a stunning transformation.🏆
