Scam or sharp practice? Loft insulation survey cold calls scambaiting The Major

- Some companies tread a fine line between scamming and sharp practice. This video looks at cold calls from companies offering a survey of loft insulation, and reveals some of the sales techniques they use. The first call (1:24) is played straight, the second (10:08) involves The Major sticking his oar in, and the set of third calls (16:30) fight back against our robot overlords. I've put spoken commentary on this rather than my usual written text, because the number of words would have made captions a bit too unwieldy.
The calls were made using these numbers, although they may have been automatically generated to hide the callers' locations: 01202 942346, 02394 352313, 02922 640047, 02922 644183, 02039 257447. My own number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service, so none of these calls should have been made to me. Callers try to get around that by pretending that they are not selling anything during the call itself (the sale will be made later on).

Thank you for this video. We just had a phone call and it was the same womans voice with the exact same words. We had no idea my partner was actually talking to a robot! Love your technique and will be using random words in next call!!
Happy new year to the major and his spaniel!
Happy 2023 to you too!
I'm not sure who I'd find more annoying by a call like this; the insulation scammers or this fine individual.
Some of these robot calls have a real person behind it that hits specific response buttons based on listening to the audio. Chances are if it hangs up that fast it is a real person listening in
That's interesting - thanks for the explanation!
The ghosts are a worry. If you do have a problem in your loft who you going to call?
Exactly the same voice and words called me for the last two days, didn't realise it was automated. I may let it make an appointment since I don't have a loft.
This morning my "Local Energy Advisor" told me that my loft had unsuitable insulation installed Since I'm the only person that has been into my loft for the last sixty years he is very unlikely to know what is in my loft.
It makes a nice change to be scammed by someone who is not working out of India.
Happy new year!
Let's hope it's a good one...
Rockwall is not a manufacturer it’s a product. Don’t think this is a good channel to be looking for any useful advice 😂😂
While I would never claim that my channel is a provider of useful advice, you will be delighted to discover that "ROCKWOOL Limited is part of the ROCKWOOL Group. With one factory based in Bridgend, South Wales and over 500 employees across the UK, we are the local organisation offering a full range of high-performing and sustainable insulation products for the construction industry." That's according to Rockwool's website. Rockwool should not be confused with the similar-sounding Rockwall range of PVC Fittings & Trims, Cladding Sheets and so on, which are manufactured by Hygienic Plastic Supplies Ltd - those are not the topic of the loft salesman's spiel. Hope that clears up the issue!
