    I file a 45 degree bevel on the end of the string pegs. When I pull the string through the hole, this bevel will kick the ball to it's proper position. This is how I've been stringing guitars for 30 years. Exactly! Thanks for the post.

    The only thing I would add is to wash your hands before restringing because they'll have some of the linseed oil on them. I also always wash my hands every time before picking up my guitar. My strings last that much longer because there will be less build up of dirt and sweat on the strings.

    @rockstar3224 Rob was using what looks like a Craftman (or similar) side cutter that squeezes the string from two sides. It creates a wedge shaped and sharp end, and can separate the windings from the core of the cable. I use a bicycle cable cutter (such as Spin Doctor, Shimano, Park Tool CN-10, cable cutters and others) that has a V-shaped notch in each side of the cutter. These squeeze the cable together as it cuts which produces a better result, especially on wound strings.

  • @amazingvariable
    @amazingvariable 5 лет назад

    My tech insists to wrap the string one wind over top and the rest under, but I may give this a shot next time. Some good insight, but I gotta say. you run a tight ship when it comes to getting all these setup so well and quick!

    Great video, loved the way he tuned up, so fast and no electronic tuners. My only criticism of this video would be, he made the truss rod adjustment seem so easy (because he's a pro) My advise would be leave it to people just like him. You can really mess a guitar up trying, and it'll never play the same again. I know, I've done it 😢

    @JamesHeadbangerfield You're exactly right. Too tight will result in buzzing close to the nut. Loosen it until there is a more noticeable space above the fret wire. P.S. The 14th fret thing just happened to be where the neck body joint is on an acoustic. If you have an electric hold the string where the body meets the neck.
    Hope this helps.

    I have an 810 Taylor made sometime in '83 that has lots of volume and a sweet tone. I have found over the years that even Phosphor Bronze strings produce a sound that is to my ear a little too bright. After lots of experimentation, I have settled on GHS Vintage Bronze Mediums for best tone and playability. The guitar with these strings is still bright and punchy given a vigorous attack, but it is very sweet and balanced, at least as much as it can be given the kinds of woods used in making the instrument. I once tried a Monel string, and it made the instrument hard and tinny, I haven't tried the Elixir Strings, but I may, really the Vintage Bronze GHS work out real well for me.

  • @Toobula

    OK, next time I'll put the strings all into the bridge first. Not a big deal, but I can see that makes sense. I'm not sure about cut-before wind. I use Elixirs, too, but my Martin D19 is in the shop for a brace repair and I'm thinking I may try D'Adario phosphor bronze on it. Elixirs stay bright longer and are GREAT for guitars sitting in the show room, but I feel like I want to explore a bit. Tommy Emanuel reckons you need to change up now and then because the guitar "gets used" to a type of string. Doesn't sound like science, but Tommy is no amateur.
