My wife and I were on our way out of South Mountain Park once when we heard pretty serious screaming coming from the bathrooms near the entrance. It turned out another hiker had touched a cholla (don't know which species) and was trying to get it unstuck from her hand. So yeah, those are no joke.

I transplanted one teddy bear cholla about 2 years ago and it is rock solid. Maybe gave it water 2 or 3 times since. Great plant
