I'm no Wagnerian expert but, as a 48 year old Opera student and singer I find this production refreshing, interesting and very well done! The constrasts between the crazy happy and morbid sisters and brunhilde is amazing and helpful to understand the drama soon to unfold.
I've always liked the ride of the Valkyries, but this production is absolute genius. The horror and the grandeur, even the touch of 'overdone', everything is there!
I believe this is the most powerful version of the ring I've ever seen. The wagnerian forces are exposed in your true form. I recommend the complete cycle, the Wagner's work is monumental and this interpretation is remarkable!
DIVINE DIVINE DIVINE!!! I never thought I'd laugh out loud at the Valkyries and still find them soooooooooo perfect! The blood drenched hem on the gowns - perfect!
Sometimes I want to listen to the vigorous music that is far from everyday life This masterpiece washes away the hustle and bustle of my everyday routine From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
I like this staging because these alcohol fuelled Valkyries are so decadent. The world that they live in is decadent and destined to be destroyed in Gotterdammerung. Even if there is redemption through Brunhilde's sacrifice in the end , all the characters have a dark underside. I enjoyed the moment when the set rotated and we saw more Valkyries on the roof. Musically the scene is a masterpiece and requires great discipline from everyone. Wagner composed it to give the impression the Valkyries are singing over each other sometimes with overlapping entries and that continues through the act. I would have loved to see this production.
Well, they are death messengers like the Crows of the Battle field and they know the soldiers are going to live in Valhalla so they're cheerful about death. Wish they were in the traditional armor though. (sigh). But they can sing! Wow-slam those high notes!
One of the most spectacular musical paintings in opera. You don't need to know German, you don't even need to see the Valkyries to know what's happening. It is spectacular\
This is the first time I saw such an interpretation of Wagner's work, I think it is a beautiful smashing and drunken showpiece...! It should go on to be in Opera Houses all over the planet.
It’s available on DVD. The scene withe Rheingold and the Rheinmadians is set in a big tank on the stage where the Rheingold is a naked handsome guy and when Alberich steals the Rheingold he actually kills the youth by ripping his heart out.
LOVE IT. For those of you don't, because it's not trad. w/horned helmets, consider this: For opera to remain viable for average people, new interpretations reflecting a sense of today's values/humor provide an enticing spin for newbies to see an opera. The hope is that some find they love opera and support it. My first Walkure was avante-garde version in 1985 (Seattle Opera). I didn't like at first but as I matured, I got it. I loved that production in time and paid to see it many times.
think I still like best the escenering of this scene during the Holland festival performance july 1999, where the walkures were taxiing like airplanes on an airstrip without all those dead warriors, very stylistique and lots of room for your own imagination
Lots of people there don't bseem to grasp the consistency of the costume design. The aesthetic is European 1940s (World War II era) Look up gowns in that time and you'll see these ones in the play with opera gloves. The blood, front split and under trousers match well enough as a variation on the classic look. And their short brunette hair was also in vogue at the time. Basically look up Queen Elizabeth as a princess
All though I find this production a detestable confusion of music, theme, costume, and setting, there are some elements of this scene and the way it was recorded that I find intriguing. I really wish they weren't drinking and looting, but I do like the idea of the bodies. I also like the overall design and the way everything comes together visually. The jump shots and close-ups add interest. And, I really can't complain about the music, either. Not too bad a concept here in the end, I guess.
5:44 It's such a tremendously nice timber! What's her name? Who are they? Could you write their names in the description, please? Or a link to look for it.
going to live tha t li fe we are here to liv e ............... a hard time............ to try to stay aive to b e us ............. hoping we survuve it............
Valkyrie had cloaks of swan feathers not angel wings, aside from that I love this and once again want to see this opera redone as an epic movie with the music.
I just realized... the Valkyries’ wings are black like vultures? And just like vultures they fly around in packs in search of anything dead. I wonder if this was intentional 😉
How can this song become a cartoon where Elmer fud is hunting rabbits and bugs bunny is running and the movie appolclise now uses the song for an attack scene flying in helicopters 😮
Samuel Pérez García Nope, it's controversial because of everything else. Some of the stage directions were changed, like Sieglinde pulling Notung out instead of Siegmund, and Hunding actually surviving. Das Rheingold is also kinda bloody with Alberich having his arm chopped off by Wotan. And I don't think some people liked the feminist take on the whole thing, since this Ring Cycle really centers around Brunhilde. This entire Ring is available here for viewing.
Inspired by this masterpiece, I may dream of a 16 th century Japanese wariord who lost his life in rebellion by his retainer, with the unification of Japan in sight
It’s more of a re-imagining of The Ring, as the valkyries (Brünnhilde especially) are more involved in the actual plot throughout. Still, it’s an interesting take on it and this is the first version of The Ring that I watched.
where be their horses? Valkyries Ride horses (or helicopters), how else do you think they get the dead warriors back to Valhalla? You can't medivac a strapping great Viking Warrior on the back of a woman!
The world is mostly ocean. History of the world, largely sea legends so far and culture as we know it so far has been told in poems and song, music. So, this is the opposite of “surely strange”

One of my favorite renderings of Ride of the Valkyries!! Well done Copenhagen!!!
Blood touch on valkirias' clothes is quite great. good music and very well singed. this performance is notable.
The first Valkyrie Ylva Kihlberg, is a true classic beauty.
That little "slide" the horns do at 0:37 is majestic af.
I think I need to catch my breath...Simply amazing!
I love their voices. They sing so beautifully
The best interpretation ever - much underrated
I think it's fantastic. Edgy, but not tacky. Dark, but not shocking. Creative and honestly interesting. It works for me.
I believe this is the most powerful version of the ring I've ever seen.
The wagnerian forces are exposed in your true form.
I recommend the complete cycle, the Wagner's work is monumental and this interpretation is remarkable!
This production is wonderful!
My favorite song of all time!
And the best part of that song is the laugh! I love it!!!!
DIVINE DIVINE DIVINE!!! I never thought I'd laugh out loud at the Valkyries and still find them soooooooooo perfect! The blood drenched hem on the gowns - perfect!
Brilliant ensemble, Valkyries. Brava! Definitely see this production if it's on when I am there.
This was like going to a heavy metal concert back in the day

Great stuff. I wonder what the all thought the first time they saw that set and knew that their costumes included high heels :-)

Then they should have kept the curtain closed on this one, and let us listen to the orchestra.
This performance makes Apocalypse Now into child's play.
Magnificent - and disturbing and so on many levels!
has to be my all-time favourite
Wow. Always loved the music but the operatic performance is great.
This from a southern rocker.
Hey, this the heavy metal of classical music, lol.
@@rdred8693 It TRULY IS!!

magnifique production. Quel Orchestre, quel chef !
Would love to have seen the whole Copenhagen Ring!

Wagner productions sometimes had WINGED helmets but horned helmets were a hollywood concept of vikings.
Stunning
Highly original. And those Walkyries look stunning!
It is a good thing they took special care to shave their armpits. Hi Def shows everything.
Luiz Sa *Valkyries
@@kietneeddiaper5214 I see you're trying to be smart but it's actually correct, as w is v in German and other Germanic languages.
Great version! Thx a lot for this!
Any chances you upload de whole opera??

skilled and practiced musicians, to them I give all credit.

We can hear the f*cking oboes. Thank you. That's worth cracking out the liebfraumilch in itself
I'll have the Riesling thank you.
Two words: “Eee yuck”!! Those big wooden see-saws at the Met are lookin’ pretty good now!
fascinating
Magnifico
These girls are really into it!!
the love are the best part.
this way of performance is appropriate for the book "Schwejk". Don't joke with the beautiful music!
3:40 Best part
I'm glad you enjoyed your very first ring cycle!
Everyone always remembers their first one.

They're having a good time with that schnapps!
Haw haw. They’re not Bavarians, but nice try.
Awesome
the songtext please ????? somewhere please ????
Hermoso, místico y de poderosa energía. Ahora entiendo porque a Hitler les fascinaba Wagner.
Brilliant
Beautifully tragic

Tremendous.....
The great😂production ever
So the valkyries are angels... and the dead soldiers from WWII? Is that why it's controversial?

The Big Bang Theory: Quest song! :D
is this legit? like wagner envisioned? or is this some re-imagining of his work?
It’s more of a re-imagining of The Ring, as the valkyries (Brünnhilde especially) are more involved in the actual plot throughout. Still, it’s an interesting take on it and this is the first version of The Ring that I watched.
It's great.. But, the Ride losses it's punch when you realize it's basically a traffic report.
Isso sim é opera !!!!!!!!!

I see what you did there!!!!(with that helicopter reference)
Outstanding comments, owe you a case of beer for that one.
Battle Tanks for carrying the dead into Valhalla after they blow their enemies away ??!
Was sole's ?
@dakloki lol, back in Nam.
Wonder if that's real schnapps?
This looks kinda good.
@blkirish88 Ylva is an awesome singer
Bravo...

Wagner is universal. Wagner productions were shown in America during World War ll.
Wagner is never performed in Israel. Never.
I always wondered who cleaned up the dead bodies. Apparently women come in on Thursdays.
Interesting
Nada que ver con eldrama wagneriano.Richard Wagner saltaría de indignación de ver sus obras torcidas en esa forma.
This would probably piss Wagner off, well good. I just R O F L.
I'M THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!
Is that a Gammeldansk she is holding in her hand..!
Are those American GIs?
Germans.
Wodan!! Donnar! Walküre!
concordo pienamente, peccatola scenografia che trovo piuttosto grossolana
I haven't seen a fatter Walkure anywhere else!
Sorry, but I can't help but think of French & Saunders at the start.
VERY GOOD MIS-EN-SCENE !
