      sine rule is used when you have 2 pairs. so an angle and length is 1 pair. cosine rule is used in other places

    33:22 why does dividing dividing occur before square rooting.. according to Pedmas, squarerooting should occur later because square root is a type of exponent.

      Sine rule when there’s 2 pairs. Cosine rule when there’s 2 lengths and 1 angle.

    Question and yep I know weird number but when finding an angle using cosine I did
    cos-¹(420²+69²-101²÷2×420×69)
    but it just ends up as an error. Do you or anyone know why.

      You use the cosine rule to work out side and angles in non-right angled triangles (although can be used for right angles too!) when there isn’t a pair of opposite sides, in which case you can use the sine rule 😁🙏🏼

    The question at 24:30, after finding the length opposite to 40 degrees, could you use Pythagoras to find the hypotenuse and then cosine rule to find the angle?
    Does that only work for this question as I did get the correct answer?

    does it matter where you put the b and c after the a on the triangle because i put the b to a different place of yours and when you squared a it was like a 200 difference to mine so would an examiner still mark it right?

      b and c can be written in either position but you should get the same answer! Definitely check your working out!

      Dont think it matters as long as it corresponds with the correct form of the question. If it gives you find the angle B but the formula is cos A, change it so that you are finding cos B. But in short, no it doesn't matter just make sure you rearrange if indicated by the question :)

    Excuse me tutor, is the sine and cosine rule given on the igcse edexcel formula sheets for the exams? Do you know?

      From the exam board website: “There is no formulae sheet provided with Mathematics examinations. Students are not expected to memorise complicated formulae but may need to remember simple equations such as the area of a circle or volume of a cube.”
      This seems conflicting as I would class the cosine rule as a complicated formulae but as it states, there will be no formulae sheet given in the exams 👍🏼
