She always said that she hoped she would continue to work right up until the end and she more or less did. She was working in a one woman show based off her book at the time she passed, but it is heartbreaking to see how active and energetic she still was up until her heart surgery and stroke. At 76 she still had so much life left to give and was taken away far too soon. Rest in Peace Rue, you were just amazing on and off the stage
Rue and Betty always seem like happy people who loved their fans and that is a good thing. Bea and Estelle seemed to want more privacy in their lives. But they all became my family and still are my family. I love the Golden Girls DVD. I also bought all seasons of The Golden Girls on You Tube through ABC TV ON DEMAND. I love you my beloved family.
I discovered that Ms McClanahan and Blanche Devereaux were quite similar. But then, Frances Crowley(her character on "Mama's Family)was strictly a career woman. She played that quite well, too!!
CocoaFemme 1015 She speaks about that in an interview...They changed that character on her. It was supposed to be a sexy character, she read for it...Then when the series was picked up, they changed it to be a mousy uptight woman...She said she hated playing her because of the change.
these worldly, hardworking, intelligent elder women are so different from our typical grandmothers. the former appreciate the color and noises of the world, the latter grouch and complain at anything new and put down their youngers to feel better about the impending demise of their pointless lives.
I loved all the ladies. They worked so well together. And. I miss. Them even now. I am now a widow. I can relate to. Balance. Missing George. But. They make me. Laugh even years go by. But the. Humor is still there. I loved them. All....
I think many of us ladies are the Golden Girls. Naive to a point, (Rose) High libido, (Blanche) Not lucky in love, (Dorothy) Can't remember if any of that is true (Sophia)
I couldn’t imagine a more pathetic topic for a book. Worse than super star billy graham’s poster posing with a sabertooth tiger in front of celestial bodies.
