That's why I love mythological + medieval style games, I wish Skyrim had less caves and more interesting dungeons and such, I don't know, Skyrim was just boring...
I was listening to this the other day, just for horrific nostalgia. My wife, who is 9 years younger than me and has never played Diablo, pops into the computer room. She hears me listening to this track for all of eight seconds before exclaiming "This is what anxiety sounds like." Gurl, you have no idea... 😨
When my friend got this game I was 6 years old, him too. We didnt know English, we struggled to understand the items mods etc. but we made it through, slowly taking our path to hell. I was deelpy disturbed by succubes and shit as I played warrior. Then two years later I got Diablo 2 and wow .. thanks Uelmen and Blizzard north for this great part of my childhood ❤
I remember hearing this as a 4 year old when my father used to play this. I couldnt stay in the same room when 2:50 hit and all those laughs began. Well not untill he let me control his level 30 warrior so i could "fight the fear back".
That part at 2:06 is incredible. Diablo's atmosphere is, I imagine, comparable to living in a world like Berserk. The degree of darkness, of horror, of supernatural terror so profound it seeps into the very pores of human existence on every level. The true nightmare of coming into contact with the forces of Hell. That kind of atmosphere. Dealing with evil. True evil.
I can see what you see not, Vision Milky. Then eye rot. When you turn... They will be gone. Whispering There hidden song Then you see What can not be Shadows move where... Light should be. Out of darkness out of sight.... Cast down to the halls of the blind~ Still the best Tome in the game
This is probably my favorite track off the whole ost. The way the instrumentals are organized plus the sound effects (the people laughing and the baby crying) added in make this track really unnerving.
You may notice that those people laughing were all women, which makes some extremely disturbing implications. I always imagined that those were a pack of succubi, torturing infant children that they had stolen from their mothers and laughing together at the pain they caused...
Diablo 2 was technically a better game, but it didn't have the same level of atmospheric horror. The atmosphere in this game really set it apart more than anything else, and, in my opinion, makes it more fun than 2, and especially better than World of Warcraft- I mean Diablo 3.
True, the feel of the horror was better, and I found some of the monsters more scary than in Diablo 2, like the butcher and those horned demons that would run out roaring at you or even the vipers. Also those tombs you'd find also gave a more darker atmosphere.
Diablo 1 and 2 are equally beast. Diablo 2 is a bit better due to better mechanics, maps. But no diss on Diablo 1, it's just they accomplished their Goal for the sequel.
Mark Russ I still play the GOG Version and its fun like hell (haha). I was so proud that I yesterday got a Savage Bow of the Heavens and a Dragons Ring of the Tiger as loot from a Lazarus run!
Mark Russ No, the prefix gives me +57 mana and the suffix has +48 lifepoints. Still a great item to survive hell mode in multiplayer. And yes you are right, I get the same nice memories. I played the PS1 version before I got my fingers on Blizzards original game. My brother an I played it in team day after day after day till we finally managed to kill Diablo. That was one happy day. Even my Mother cheered with us ❤️
Mark Russ I am sorry, that your Brother passed away - a true loss. The PS1 version was quite the same. Same Monsters and Quest, however, there was no „real“ Multiplayer Option - but you could set the difficulty level for every game you played alone or with a second player. It was nice that spells got a targeting effect on monsters but both players shared one screen and proceeding was not possible if the other one didn’t follow you. It was a lot of fun and especially that you could make a character save state to share items between games and characters!!
I can´t think of any other game to show how important is music to generate the proper environment (starcraft was great too, but not like this). This game sends U straight to hell. I can remember when i was 13-15 years old, playing this masterpice with no lights, going deep inside the catacombs... killing invisible foes or these goatmen that came in huge numbers...
the thing i find kinda interesting about the diablo 1 soundtrack is often it tries to be kinda creepy or horror like but it constantly sounds like action music is trying to get its way it but cant quite manage it. You can really tell this at 1:30 in this track.
Yeah IMO the feel of Diablo 1 is like "going on an adventure but descending into madness and fear instead" and this track is like the total embodiment of that mood.
love the concept of this game. enter a palace that goes deep. the deeper you go, the deeper you descend into hell the harder it gets. simple but effective. it's like the buildings in "I am legend" the higher you ascend the skyscrapers the harder the vampires probably get. first person vr version would be amazing and extremely unnerving
I've often thought about making diablo 1 game like that, but I have no experience with computer programming. A man by the name of Void Weaver had combined Diablo 1 and 2 with Doom to make it more like a first person version of Diablo. He is on youtube if you want to check his channel out. p.s Your channel name is hilarious, and I love it, lol XD
I just got some chills thinking how a VR diablo 1 descent into madness and despair would look like, ngl i would shit myself if i had to face demons in first person with the diablo 1 estethic
Diablo I has the same feeling as TERMINATOR I: it has a strong horror atmosphere, almost, just almost going into terror. Diablo II is also similar to TERMINATOR II: more variety, better effects and graphic and lots of action, still sends a powerfull message through, but far from the original horror feeling. Then, like the other Terminator movies, from III onwards it's pure trash.
I take issue with people who claim that this game is just a nostalgia boner. Objectively speaking, Diablo never was anything less than a great game. I ache to replay it.
1 and 2 are on a whole notha level compared to 3, that's cause Uelmen made the music in both of them. 2 of course has more stylistic variety as the themes become more exotic with the acts, and so I like it more, but 1 is great too. 3 is altogether disappointing and need not be further mentioned here.
Diablo 1 Soundtrack/Atmosphere is the best, but I like Diablo 1 and 2 equally on a gameplay standpoint. Diablo 3 is mediocre and forgettable in every aspect.
2023 and this is still a undefeated masterpiece
2024 also
The atmosphere of the game came from it's seriousness. The constant feeling of old lore woven into the story. It was subtle horror.
Not to mention a truly EPIC soundtrack! I made a playlist of all classic blizzard songs on my page as far back as Diablo if you want to check it out.
That's why I love mythological + medieval style games, I wish Skyrim had less caves and more interesting dungeons and such, I don't know, Skyrim was just boring...
Still not as horrific as your English grammar.
Lore for today: "If you have 2MB graphic accelerator, you can play at same time Diablo & C&C Red Alert and still Win95 goes like a pimp." 8)
Hell yeah, all 90th was like you are participating in the hell's disco, and it is not right that you will be alive when dawn comes up

Everyone is going on about that Tristram song, but this one here is the true masterpiece.
I remember hearing this as a 4 year old when my father used to play this. I couldnt stay in the same room when 2:50 hit and all those laughs began. Well not untill he let me control his level 30 warrior so i could "fight the fear back".

Diablo 1, the best Diablo game ever made. The atmosphere and experience we got back then is unbeatable !
Absolutely! I hope for a remake
Totally agree!!! For me it's a game № 1 in life!!!

The most effective "scary" music in any game I've played.
blizzard game soundtracks in the 90s were the most badass part of our youth
Warcraft 2, Starcraft and Warcraft 3 had some of the best soundtracks ever oh and Diablo as well.
I was all in on diablo 2 back in the day but I can say diablo 1 music was on another level.
I can see what you see not,
Vision Milky.
Then eye rot.
When you turn...
They will be gone.
Whispering
There hidden song
Then you see
What can not be
Shadows move where...
Light should be.
Out of darkness out of sight....
Cast down to the halls of the blind~
Still the best Tome in the game
Okay I got goosebumps remembering that.
the ocular amulet, a treasured favorite of mine.
EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!:)))

Creative- Name the atmospheric background noise makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Especially in the pitch black darkness.
You may notice that those people laughing were all women, which makes some extremely disturbing implications.
I always imagined that those were a pack of succubi, torturing infant children that they had stolen from their mothers and laughing together at the pain they caused...

LOL @ last comment! I agree with your entire argument!
True, the feel of the horror was better, and I found some of the monsters more scary than in Diablo 2, like the butcher and those horned demons that would run out roaring at you or even the vipers. Also those tombs you'd find also gave a more darker atmosphere.
yeah I think Diablo 1 also had that claustrophobic feel as you explore one dungeon deeper and deeper. It was dark.
For me, Diablo 1 is better than Diablo 2.
Diablo 1 and 2 are equally beast.
Diablo 2 is a bit better due to better mechanics, maps. But no diss on Diablo 1, it's just they accomplished their Goal for the sequel.
The smell of death surrounds me...
That riff-y effect at 1:30 is so fucking awesome.
probably is a riff
Metal as fuck! 🤘🎸
Simple wah pedal on an electric guitar with wide open reverb, but yeah cool af.
Nothing can beat this dark and fearsome atmosphere...
совершенно великолепный трек и атмосфернейшая игра!
The laughing at around 3:00 and baby crying at 4:00 is just disturbing to a little kid playing this game online back in 1999-2000.
First Diablo was, is and always will be, the best RPG in every aspect
2:06 when everything is dark and you only strike at anything not in sight. so fucking good, this game.

Crying baby 4:00
Succubus laughing 2:53
Laugh succubs, cry children. We all had a great childhood.
VERY DEEP ATMOSPHERE !!! GREAT MUSIC
The smell of death surronds me
Kaiser Sword omg bro so fucking nice

V'.
I'm not impressed!!
NOTHING YET!
This too good for you. Very powerful! You want, you take!
love this part and on 4:00
This part of the game always makes me feel the need to look behind my shoulder lol
4:33 Couldn't groove more on this game than I did on this part
2:10 is the best part for me
This is some tro0 unintentional black metal.
4 REAL

The distant manic laughter of Albrecht as Diablo progressively corrupts him...
Diablo 1 has the Best Musik (of all Parts).. perhaps Nostalgie..
the thing i find kinda interesting about the diablo 1 soundtrack is often it tries to be kinda creepy or horror like but it constantly sounds like action music is trying to get its way it but cant quite manage it. You can really tell this at 1:30 in this track.

I like the start of that futuristic bass sound melody that plays subtly starting at 4:35 , gives me a feeling of action coming up.
This is my jam
the horde of spitters..... on top of the bgm.
Premium game, premium OST
1:30 this dark gothic guitar sound.
love the concept of this game.

I'll check it out, VR diablo would be amazing 😊
I just got some chills thinking how a VR diablo 1 descent into madness and despair would look like, ngl i would shit myself if i had to face demons in first person with the diablo 1 estethic
d1 was definitely the darkest of the diablo games.
This soundtrack makes me want to experiment music in this form. But with Kyuss and Alice In Chains elements. Maybe with a bit of Tool too…
Best horror game ngl
I wish i could still play this multiplayer with everyone
I always loved the hellish crying babies starting up at 3:50.
May the spirit of Arkaine protects me !
1:26 I go full bezerker
from 2:10 to 4:20 sound like early days of therion melodies
Fear... Medo
That electric guitar sounds like starcraft zerg theme to me

I swear I never heard the last minute and a half in-game.
Mana shield. Teleport. Bye bye tank.

Seltsame Musik.
🤦🏻♂️
Diablo 1 > Diablo 2 + Diablo 3... just because music, lvl, and simply gameplay ad fu** new graph
nope - D2 --> D1
Oh man, I agree so wholeheartedly with this! Diablo I was and always will be the best and my favourite.
Music-wise yes, but D2 is otherwise best.
