I have owned this laptop for about a week now, And I can not rate it highly enough, the fan sound i wasn't sure about from reading reviews leading up to purchase but having now owned it and stress tested it out a bit on games, its not as bad as i thought and as Jarrod mentioned its not an issue as soon as you use headphones or even the on board sound. Games look amazing, high refresh equals buttery smooth paired up with g-sync, its got all the right goodies inside. 9/10 would recommend.
I am getting this laptop in a few days actually, just waiting on delivery. It looks sweet. I used to have an Alienware 15, but this one will out perform that well it seems. I can't wait.
he is a good youtuber and i always been waiting for his video.the way he explained everything seems smooth plus, when you have a logic questions,he will try to give the answer.that whats make him different from other youtuber.
watched almost all your laptop reviews and picked this up! been using the laptop for 2 weeks now, it was either this or the raider but the build quality of this laptop just won it for me. superb build quality (built like a tank) and the laptop is just a sight to see (for me), it never throttled one bit (75-80 when gaming, 35-45 idle) haven't undervolted yet will try that soon, the bezels, meh its subjective. the screen is amazing, wish this was per key rgb. the battery life is pretty bad but hey its a gsync 1070. overall i would recommend this!
@@Coconutballsack its a toss up between the rog scar or the msi. the hardware for both is superb, though i think the msi is a "bit" cooler. everything else is subjective.
Nice review again Jarrod for such a thin monster laptop that could compete with desktop configurations. This is highly recommended for photographer, video editors and gamers.
On a basis this review I bought laptop. Yes, at the beginning gaming on laptot is loud. Temperatures arround 85-90 degress. But it is so fancy and beautiful I love it. That`s why I decide to do something in this direction. Do not worry about paste which is on CPU and GPU, just undervolt them and buy a good laptop cooler - cooling pad, mine is CoolerMaster Ergostand III (good laptop positions) and in my case temperatures GPU and CPU are 75-78 degrees after one hour of playing Rainbow Six Siege. I am pleased!
Thanks for sharing your results, and glad to hear you like it! I wish I tested undervolting here, I do it in all my more recent reviews and will keep doing it in future videos as it's a simple and easy way to improve performance, I'm also looking at including cooling pad results too, just need to get around to buying a bunch and testing them out 😀
Did you use Intel XTU? What is the undevolting limit that was set in order for the CPU to be stable? I am thinking of doing it myself as i love the performance of the laptop, but i want to improve those thermals (even though i changed the thermal paste). Also, did you notice any thermal increase after the last nvidia dirvers update (specifically version 398.36)? After this update, it seems that the temperatures are up 5-7 degreees Celsius (i already opened the laptop to see if there is any dust build-up). Thank you!
yes. I used XTU. Core Voltage Offset, - 0, 150 V - Stable for my CPU no mater how long I play. In 0., 160 V, computer crashed. First try with -0,100V, if its stabel, go to 0,120, 0,130 and so on. Well my nvidia driver is 398.36 now and this is my first driver installed on this laptop. Cannot say. I must install new drivers 398.82 and try it.
@@basv458 it is nice machine, worth its price, screen is good, gpu gtx 1070 can be overclocked with msi afterburner. I have problem with my device is cpu 7300hq it sucks, bottlenecking the system, and aleady shortcircuited battery and it is my fault. Other than that decent device for 999$ that i paid.
Excellent review as always. Thumbs up. Two questions though: 1. 32 GB RAM is single slot? I saw in the internal section that the second slot is empty. How come it has 32GB RAM? 2. Can you disable the discreet video card from the BIOS? Some laptops (like Lenovo) do that. That way you can increase the battery life significantly.
Thanks! The second slot was just covered by something, I've just double checked the HWInfo summary I exported when I had the laptop here, and it lists two 16GB modules installed. I believe I looked in the BIOS to try and disable the graphics, however I didn't specifically take notes on that, so I might be thinking of a different laptop as I've had 4 different ones in the last few weeks, sorry.
Pretty good laptop, every feature is up to my standards. The only thing I'm actually disappointed about are the temperatures. Those could shorten your CPU life span
Repaste it with good paste, disable turbo boost, undervolt it, never got 80c when playing game (no undervolt just disable tb and repaste for me) note my ambient room temp is 27-30celc no ac
I was about to buy this laptop but I didnt, because almost every buyer has complaint about the screen bleeding. So it turned out that wasnt at a specific unit but it was shipped like this. Surprisingly, you get no screen bleeding!
Looks really cool, easy to upgrade and good components in general ... but 2 BIG MAIN CONCERNS : 1) Not having a Killer wifi in a gaming laptop in 2018 is a shame, 2) Extreme temperatures inside, really really high, so disipation systems seems to be really inefficient. Great review as always Jarrod ;)
Killer is trash. It's a rebranded chip with garbage software that makes everything worse or just runs in background and does nothing useful and only sends telemetrics.
144 hz on a laptop is insane. Also when and will we expect a Predator Triton 700 review? Just got mine in last week and wanted to see your take on it. So far im liking it more than the Zephyrus.
Yeah pretty crazy! I only just recently got into contact with Acer, I've got a review of the Helios 300 coming next week some time and I'm going to follow up to see if they have a Triton I can borrow as I'm quite interested in how thin it is with all that power!
Air Espenilla I own this laptop with 144hz screen gsync and 32GB ram with 512 ssd along with 2 tb HDD Works perfectly fine Only prob is battery which is 64wh and runs about 2.5 hours while watching a movie etc.. Never think of gaming without pluged in.. Temp gpu max 76 C and cpu max 84 C while playing gtav and intensive tasks.. I had a problem with a fan and cpu throttled to 99 C. I claimed the warranty which is 2 years and now everything is perfectly fine. M very satisfied with it.. Its slim it has a very nice design, its powerful No problem at all excpt fingerprint magnet So i use it very carefully Cz its an expensive machine. No regrets.... Anotherthing.... After playing on 144hz... you will hate playing on low spec screen Its 9/10
Thanks! Hard to say as I haven't tested the GE63VR myself yet, I've had a few of these questions though so I've just sent an email to my MSI contact to see if I can get one, if I can I'll do a comparison video too 😃 from what I can tell though, it appears to be similarly spec'd but with a slightly slower screen, and possibly better cooling, but I'm keen to test that out for myself!
TabalugaDragon i plan to undervolt and repaste, considering going for liquid metal but not sure if thats worth it compared to ic diamond. want it to run cool quiet and effecient!
TabalugaDragon all liquid metal degrades aluminum, but those heat sinks are copper so it wouldn't be an issue. its also electrically conductive so thats what im worried about, be nice if there was an epoxy or something i could put over the solder to keep it safe lol
just discovered ur channel. great content especially comparing older but powerful cpu/gpu to very recent cpu/gpu . nice vid btw. subbed and tapped the bell xd
I have one of these and in all honesty I can't fault it, I have moved away from my huge £2500 gaming rig which is starting to get a bit long in the tooth and and use this as my gaming machine, I like the fact that it is light and powerful and serves all of my gaming needs without being very thick like the MSI laptops tend to be.
Hmm good idea, I'll see what I can do! I'm still waiting on the 1070 Max-Q laptop to arrive 😃 I was told it should be sent by the end of this week or some time next week.
Jarrod'sTech yes yes yes!.huhu, the video that i have been looking for.cant wait for it.!🤗.jarrod i always watch your video, what is the 0.1% low n 1% low means??.can you explain that a little bit when you make the video on gtx 1070 vs 1070 max-q.i always wonder what is that mean and how does that effect my gaming performance.currently i have a gtx 1070 laptop✌️
Thanks! This video actually explains it pretty well: ruclips.net/video/l6WgbfG_z-k/видео.html basically it's a way of measuring the low end of performance in a kind of average way, a bit more useful than just giving the minimum frame rates which can vary more.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I'm really impressed with what I saw - but the high-level throttling during benchmarking concerned me a bit. Did you notice similar throttling while playing more demanding / resource intensive titles?
I didn't have any issues with games, probably as I never had any GPU throttling and that probably does most of the work at the higher setting levels. I'm starting to think my high temps are to do with my high room temp when I tested, LTT just did a video on this laptop and they noted that the CPU got to 96c but no throttling, so not sure if it was because I had a warmer room, or maybe the paste could be applied better in my unit.
I'm in the market for a used laptop and this laptop popped up in my price range. The temperatures are insane though. 99 degrees celsius, wtf??? I understand you can undervolt, repaste with liquid metal or ramp the fans up, but that's a little much to ask from a consumer to do. The market needs to do a better job with these gaming laptops so consumers don't need to rework this stuff. It's a bit ridiculous to expect from a consumer.
Now do the temp test with LM! XD I have watched LTT test and dropped around 20°C when switched original dry putty for Liquid Metal. I think you should give a try. Waiting for more awesome content! Sub.
Thanks! Yeah that would definitely help out a lot, even undervolting would probably be useful. Unfortunately as I only borrow the laptops I don't get the chance to try LM myself 😛
Jarrod'sTech experiment on your own? cant see how itd hurt long as you keep it off the contacts, but if you crack open your laptop to that degree you should do gpu at the same time
Thanks Nikola! Do you mean like in terms of how long the hardware will be able to play future games well? If so it's very difficult to guess. The 7700HQ CPU is still pretty decent today in games, not quite as good as the current 8th gen series but in most games the graphics makes more of a difference in games anyway, the 7700HQ is acceptable imo. As for the graphics, the 10 series is around 2 years old now, but not expecting new laptop 20 series graphics until some time next year, nothing officially announced yet, but honestly the 1070 is quite good and based on the improvements we've seen so far with the RTX launch I can't imagine it would be bad for a few years.
Thanks! I haven't tested the GE63VR myself yet, however as quite a few people have asked how it compares I've just sent an email to my MSI contact to see if I can get one for review, if I can get it I'll do a dedicated comparison video between the two 😃 from what I can tell though, it seems like the MSI one has a lower refresh rate screen although still quite high, and potentially better cooling, but hopefully I'll be able to see for myself soon!
Great review.. Was thinking of the cheaper heroes edition for video editing. Not great specks but the screen is what sells me. Have u checked it out? Is that screen as good?
Thanks 😃 I haven't unfortunately, from what I can tell it's a bit cheaper as it's available in lower end (but still good!) graphics configurations, I'll see if I can get one for review!
Yeah I'd happily use it for content creation and gaming, it's definitely got the power and the screen is fairly good in terms of colour reproduction as well.
Hi jarrodi am looking at the strix scar 2 504gs currently and an conflicted to whether buy it or not. Could you plz do a review on it and show the benchmarks and temps? When i was going to buy it, u came up in my mind and so here i am asking my favorite benchmarker techtuber there is in youtube. Thank you.
Hey, I requested that as well as the hero 2 from ASUS a few weeks ago, just waiting on some review units to become available as they're currently with other reviewers, I want to do a review of each and also a comparison between the two, at this stage no ETA on when I'll have them though, could be a few weeks and takes me a couple of weeks to do the testing, so probably more than a month away at this stage I'm afraid 😥
Thanks! I can't think of a reason why that would help. If you mean with the lid closed and the laptop screen of not really, yes that uses power and generates heat but it's isolated from the CPU/GPU and internals.
I have it it is so useful you guys have no idea i travel alot and go to hotels alot so it was very useful for gaming and for school i recommend this laptop :D
Yeah I've done some videos on older hardware in the past, the difficult thing is that it's a lot easier to get current generation stuff, as companies keep it on hand to loan for review, although generally it seems more difficult to get older stuff from them, and I'm not really at the stage where I can afford to buy too much second hand hardware myself.
I own this laptop with 144hz screen gsync and 32GB ram with 512 ssd along with 2 tb HDD Works perfectly fine Only prob is battery which is 64wh and runs about 2.5 hours while watching a movie etc.. Jarrod'sTech my first thought after seeing at a display was like it has huge bazels but right after bringing home i feel like its perfect thin bazels like on its latest models look too odd and camera position too.. New model gl504 has only new processor and a bad shapped screen... Nothing no edge excpt 8 gen processor Its very thin as well...
Hi Jarod great review as usual! Just wondering how the feature "Overboost" worked for you? I switch from Auto mode to Overboost mode and hear no difference with the fans. When switching to Overboost does it automatically ramp up the fan speeds? or Does it just increase the maximum rpm of the fans?
Thanks! To be honest I can't actually recall how it worked, I didn't take notes on it, so not sure if the fan would just outright max out or if it would get faster when actually under load, I have a feeling it may have been the latter though but if you have one should be easy enough to test and confirm.
Jarrod'sTech Man it's awesome how you reply so fast, I think you are right though as I switch but don't seem to notice anything unless the laptop heats up from gaming! Thank you! Cheers from Canada!
Would've been nice, if we could see the entire back panel is Opened & how are heat pipes being distributed to maximize heat dissipation? Does this Laptop have Woofers? Do they fire towards the User or way from it????
Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to try open them up more where possible, but it really depends, as I loan the laptops in the past I have signed agreements where I won't attempt to open them up, as they have to be sent back some companies don't want to deal with the risk of reviewers potentially breaking stuff and messing with it. No subwoofers here as far as I could tell.
Should I buy it from amazon ( like new ) ? I’m worried that it’ll be ruined somehow ... yet the actual new version is 2200$ which is around 500$ more than the used one
To be honest I have no experience buying second hand, if it's coming from a reputable seller/store then it shouldn't be too bad, especially if you get some kind of warranty with it.
Hi...can you please suggest me between this one and the msi ge63vr raider with 1070 with regards to thermals and overall performance..Thanks in advance
You're in luck! I've got a full review of the GE63VR 7RF coming out in a few hours, then on the weekend there's a full comparison video comparing the GL503VS against the GE63VR 😃
Thanks! Yeah a bit toasty, though it was interesting that the external areas like the keyboard didn't get too hot, it seems good at taking the heat out elsewhere
Özgür Öztürk there is, see this youtube ruclips.net/video/RwESaaSf-cU/видео.html Its a little bit different for me on heatsink area, but its still same model and same base to open it up
$52 more to get the 1050Ti? If it's for gaming I'd definitely do that. I've got a video comparing the 1050 against the 1050Ti if you're interested, then you can see the differences to expect between them.
Thinking about it I wonder how good the sound quality of the combo port is if paired with the Sennheiser GSP 600 headset. According to many it has the best microphone for a gaming headset. I wonder if combo ports worsen mic quality as well
Unfortunately I didn't test it, I haven't really done any sound testing as I feel like my ears aren't good enough to tell the difference, same reason I haven't done any headphone reviews yet, not sure I could do that aspect the proper justice.
I didn't get any mouse with the laptop, but it was a review unit so I'm not sure if it represents what you get when you buy one, probably best to check the contents list where you're buying, if it comes with a mouse they'll probably say.
Hey, I have had Gl503GE for a month now. But recently the CPU fan has been running on max fan load constantly. The ROG Gaming Center cannot control the fan load. What do you suggest? In Asus forum, I saw a post that identifies RPM sensor as the cause. Is that so?
I suppose this one or the MSI GE63VR - I've actually got a comparison video between them both coming out tomorrow. I haven't really tested many others in that price range yet unfortunately.
Just wonder, between this ROG 503 vs Razer Blade Pro FHD 1060..should I keep the ROG 503 or the Razer Blade Pro FHD 1060. I kind of like the big screen but the color is really off for me. ROG is fast and screen color seems better but 15" only.. hard to decide...
I think this would be a fair bit cheaper for better specs? I'd probably get this one personally, then use an external monitor with it while at home for bigger screen, probably still cheaper than the Blade Pro.
Thanks for the reply. I was lucky to get either one around $1799 so this is why it is hard to decide. Over the last 2 weeks, the razer temp is lower and less noise compare to this Asus 503. Most of the time I only play Overwatch or Rocket League so 1060 vs 1070 is not really a big issue. The fan on the 503 seems to kicks in more often than the Razer..screen on 503 is better if you ask me but the fan noise from 503 is really scare me. Did you have the same issue with your 503?
Yeah it got fairly loud under a full load for me. Hmm if same price then I guess pick which ever you like more, as you say the 1060 is perfect for those games 😃
Yeah definitely above average compared to other gaming laptops I've tested, although it does have a 1070 in a fairly thin body, so not too unexpected I suppose.
Quite a few people have asked this question, so I've contacted MSI To see if I can get the GE63VR Raider to do a review + comparison with this one 😃 hopefully I'll be able to let you know my thoughts once I've tried it out!
Technically the panel isn’t IPS, but AHVA, since it’s manufactured by AU Optronics. Also...26°C in autumn in Australia?! I’m in the southeastern USA and it’s *supposed* to be spring, but we’ve had temps in the teens and even single digits lately!
Hmm that would make more sense, every time I look up the panel though I only see it referred to as IPS, it's got the AUO B156HAN07.0 panel if that helps.
IPS (LG), AHVA (AUO) and PLS (Samsung) are all the exact same technology, just different trademark names and AHVA should not be mistaken with VA - Vertical Alignment panels.
I'll review anything if I can get the chance! I don't currently have any contact with Xiaomi though, and as they are based in China I'm not sure if they'll be able to loan me anything, but I've had a few requests so I'll give it a shot!
Jarrod between the 17" version of this one, and the Metabox PA70HS-G you reviewed in 2017, which one would you pick?? I need to buy a slim 17" gaming notebook, but I'm really worried about high temperatures. Here in italy MSI support is really shi**y, so the msi ge73 is out of question for me. 10000 thanks, i love your channel!!
The metabox was cooler if I recall, and cheaper. Build quality though was probably overall a little nicer here though. I'm actually getting the PA70ES-G shortly, so I'll have the new 8th gen model for comparison 😃
thanks a lot, I saw on the various Clevo fforums that that laptop tends to throttle a lot when reaching 75 celsius, because of the bad clevocenter management of heating! i'll wait to buy it after that review btw ahahah! love the channel, keep posting mate! Cheers
Yeah seems to be the case, although it does appear I had the measurement tool a little closer to the laptop in the older vivobook video so that may have affected the result a little, but the camera mic would have been same distance so you should be able to compare better by listening.
What? No "Nostril Cam"? Is it possible to SLI with the Thunderbolt? Or internally? OK, forget the internal. Just saw the FLIR! Keep forgetting how warm it gets where you are! That NVME must help with the speed. And the screen looks so crisp! (Not a temperature joke!) Nice looking laptop, and a really thorough review. Keep up the great work Jarrod!
Thanks! I could use the FLIR camera as nostril cam 😎 from my understanding you couldn't do SLI as you'd need some sort of SLI bridge, though that would be a cool feature!
No problem! I think it's only red, although thinking back I did forget to look in the software to see if you could change it, but I had a similar ASUS laptop that did the same which was definitely only red so it's likely the same.
It's got G-Sync, laptops with G-Sync can't switch over. In some laptops I've seen the option to disable it and swap it over in the BIOS though, but that was not an option here.
Hey Jarrod. I have noticed that you are ignoring comments asking your opinion on this scar edition laptop and msi ge63 raider with gtx 1070 amd 120hz 3ms screen.I want to buy one from among these two laptops so it would be really helpful if you could give your honest opinion on these two models. And also one more question that whether a 120hz with g sync is better or one with 120hz screen but 3ms? I am really hoping you respond to my quarries.
Hey, I'm not ignoring anything haha, I just woke up and I'm going through and replying to everything over night 😃 I also haven't personally tested the GE63 model myself, only the 73, so I can only really talk based on the specs/prices alone rather than personal experience. I'm about to head into work, so I'll look at the differences a bit more then get back to everyone. I've already noted that the question is quite popular, so I'll see if I can get the ge63 raider and if so do a full comparison video in the future 👌
Jarrod'sTech Thank you so much Jarrod. I am really grateful. And please when you compare this two also conpare the screens because after watching so many videos i have noticed the msi's tn panel gives more accurate color than this ips-type display amd its faster so please conpare screens too. Thank you bro.
I think they stopped selling it not long before I made the video, it disappeared of the ASUS website, I think it was replaced with an 8th gen model but not certain, maybe some websites still have stock though.
I saw in the Amazon page the mousepad it's different than the mousepad in the review, who has two physical buttons, how do I'll sure it's the same laptop at moment to buy?. Greetings 👍
Do you have a link to that one? From what I can tell the GL503VS has the two separate buttons, but I think there are a couple of different versions under the "Scar Edition" so maybe they have small differences?
Jarrod'sTech This is the link www.amazon.com/GL503VS-DH74-Strix-Gaming-Laptop-G-SYNC/dp/B076RB85NV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522552287&sr=8-2&keywords=Asus%2BROG%2BStrix%2BSCAR%2BEdition&th=1 if you look closely you can appreciate the difference, that's why the concern was created.
Oh I see, that is interesting, not really too sure but I notice in that image it also doesn't have the carbon fiber pattern on it so maybe they used the wrong image on the listing? Newegg show the correct image with the same model name: www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAD6H6PT0991
Than the 1070 Max-Q? Yes quite a lot better, I actually have a full video coming out tomorrow comparing the 1070 in this laptop against the 1070 Max-Q, so you'll be able to see the difference there!
bought the same model (gl503vs scar with gtx 1070) in Australia, but i noticed the "easy upgrade access" on mine is a bit different. mine only shows 1 RAM slot. in order to get to the other one I have to open the whole bottom cover of the laptop, and plus the speakers on my ROG SCAR are on the sides instead of the bottom.
Was the room temp as warm as mine? It's almost winter here too but it was pretty warm still back when I made the video and did the testing so that could contribute to the difference, also possible my unit was just extra toasty 🔥
I haven't used the GL703 yet, hopefully will get it in the future, though as a 17" I'd hope the cooling space is a bit better, newer 8th gen CPU too so I'd expect it to be a bit better in terms of performance either way.
has anyone seen a video where to see how to actually disassemble the fan part to replace the thermal paste? cannot find one and i would like to do that. stuck with the laptop open for now.
Just wondering. If I were to add external monitors to this laptop (for extended desktop not duplicated) how many can I hook up before it gives up on me. also what would be the best way to do so?
How ever many display ports it has is how many you can attach. It would depend if you're actually running GPU bound apps like games on all screens, if not it won't be an issue.
@@JarrodsTech after commenting I found some cables so went and played around. According to ports I can add 3 external monitors but managing 4 screens was pretty hardcore for my gpu. So I am gonna add 2 external monitors. Do you think it would be an issue if I would be running a game on one of the monitors?
I couldn't turn it off in this model so I can't say, although generally I don't really notice as big of a difference with a 144hz screen compared to gsync at say 60hz
I feel like I should return my 7577 and wait for Costco to sell out this model, looks more future proof to me! Sleek and beautiful! However; does it support only one channel of DDR4? So up to 16 GB only? And what’s with the heat issue? Dealbreakers and might not last for a long term use!
The 7577 is still pretty good, but yeah the 1070 will in theory give you more longevity than the 1060 Max-Q found in the 7577. This laptop has two slots, so you can run memory in dual channel, up to 32GB is possible. Not too sure about the heat! Looks like LTT actually put a video out on this laptop not long after I did and it looks like theirs didn't get quite as hot, but as mentioned in my video my room temp was a little on the warmer side as we just finished summer, and you could probably improve the temps further with some undervolting.
Oh my goodness, I knew I made the correct choice when I returned this before I opened it for the MSI GE73VR, the CPU temperaters on this are really way too high, the GE73VR maybe due to its size and more heat pipes maybe makes it better to cool everything down. I had initially thought the 144hz G-Sync panel would be great as that is the feature that is this laptop's selling point, but the 120hz panel on the GE73vr is still great as well, most AAA demanding Games on Ultra like Assassin's Creed in very populated areas will hit around a low of 46 fps, with a high of 96 fps, but mostly you will average around 56~72 fps, which I then realised that for the kind of games i would need to play, the 144hz will not be that much beneficial, maybe the G-Sync part of the screen technology to keep things smooth, but even with the GE73vr's screen without G-Sync, everything still feels really smooth and OMG, the games look absolutely amazing on the GE73vr. Also when you are not running any games, the 1070 completely shuts its fan down, so only the CPU fan is running along with the integrated GPU of the CPU, I like this feature, the GL503VS will continue running further adding to the noise because in a very quiet room you will definitely hear the noise, it will annoy you very much, while gaming I use Noise cancelling headsets, this I believe is unavoidable for a slim profile gaming laptop, it will get loud. I would say that the GE73vr and GE63vr, would have been better with a faster SSD, like the one in this GL503VS, instead of the SATA drive it has, you can feel that things could have been more faster, Also maybe if the GE73vr would have had a thunderbolt type-c enabled connection, but for me I doubt I would ever use this feature. Then the windows key on the GE73vr being on the left side, kinda takes some time getting used to for those windows key+E,D commands as you will not be able to do them one handed. Great Review Jarrod, your Review of the GE73vr basically made me change my mind, I think I wanted it over 20 times, hahahaha
Thanks! The CPU does run quite warm, it could probably be improved a bit by undervolting however I didn't try here, same with repasting. Probably a bit hard to tell the difference between 120Hz and 144Hz, unless you're really sensitive / playing professionally, or maybe I'm just bad at determining it 😃 I want to say that I think I was able to tell!
Rolivhuwa Muelelwa How was the performance of that MSI during long sesion of gaming?I plan to purchase gaming laptop on May, for now I plan to get either GE63VR or GT73EVR since this GL503VS got very hot according to this video.
Hi Unggul Prasojo, I was playing Assassins Creed Origins, for about 3 hours, temperates was: CPU - 87 Degrees Celcius and GPU 80 Degrees Celcius. No under volting done as yet. IMO: The GT73VR will cool a lot better due to its bigger size, but then again that one is not so portable. Maybe Jarrod can weigh in a bit more on this one.
Plez make a vid. Compression between scar2 and omen 17t GTX 1070. Both are have same prosser i7 8th Gen and same gpu(1070) screen refresh rate(144hrz) ram(16gb). This will help me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. Actually I'm gonna buy one of these laptop... For perfect suggestions and feedback, which will help me to go forward... Thankyou
So I've been trying to get the Scar 2 for months ever since release, but the Australian review units have always been with larger channels for review so I am still waiting for it to become free, hopefully this is less of an issue as the channel gets bigger. As for HP laptops, I really want to check their stuff out, I've been reaching out to them for months with different methods, unfortunately no luck so far as no one has gotten back to me regarding borrowing a review unit, I'll keep trying but for now I just have no way of getting a laptop from them.
I've had quite a few questions about this, and as I have not yet tested the GE63VR myself yet I've just asked my contact at MSI if I can get one for review, if I'm able to get one I'll do a comparison video 😃 otherwise if you can't wait, it does seem to be similar specs, but with a slightly cooler screen and perhaps better cooling from what I've read, but I'm more interested in testing for myself!
GS65 does look really nice, I should be getting one for review in May, so if you hang on til then I can let you know what I really think 😃 I'd be tempted to pick it just for the extra two CPU cores, but depends what you're doing, from what I've seen they don't help too much for gaming, but for myself it would be useful for video rendering.
May i ask A question Despite having Amazing Content And Quality videos You still have a quite low Subscriber Count and Views So How do you Get your hands On all these Computers Do you ask the company For Test models Or do you have a really well paying job Also If i May could you look into getting Some More CPU Intensive Games To Test Like Arma 3 Or One of the total war games
I reach out to different companies and ask if they have laptops I can borrow for a few weeks to make a video, I send them all back afterwards. In a couple of instances, such as with ASUS here, they reach out to me and ask if I want to check out their stuff 😃 I'll see what I can do in the way of adding more CPU intensive games!
Personally at this point I'd probably wait a bit, the rumours that I've been seeing around the place seem to indicate that they could be announced in the next 1-2 weeks.
No problem! Although I'm not sure even if the new CPUs are announced how long it will be until we actually see some laptops released, guess we'll find out!
Please help. I am trying to get the best laptop for CS-go, therefore, a screen with the highest hz is a must. If 144hz is the highest hz at the moment for laptops, I’ll settle for that. I would like: 8750H cpu or 8700k if possible 144hz monitor or higher is possible 1080 or 1080ti The aero 15x and the MSi GS65 both have a 8750H cpu and 144hz monitor, but they have 1070 GPUs. Do you know if any manufacture will soon release a gaming laptop with 8750H, 144hz monitor, and a 1080 or 1080ti? Thanks you. My current PC desktop is a beast and I’m trying to get close to duplicating that for travel. My set up: -8700k cpu overclocked to 4.8 w/1.25 core volt (not delidded) -EK-MLC Phoenix 280mm AIO w/cpu block (highest temps on 1 hr stress test 71 C. Idle at 31-33 C) -1080ti ftw3 hybrid (AIO w/fan on gpu) -G.skill z trident 16gb (2x8) 14-14-14-34 ram -960 pro 512gb m.2 -Seagate firecuda 2 Tb sshd -Evga 850w p2 psu -Phanteks Enthoo Pro m se Peripherals -zowie Ben q xL2546 (240hz/1080p/DyAc) monitor -hyper x alpha cloud headset - zowie Ben q ec2-B mouse (I also have Logitech g502 and it works just fine but I prefer the ec2-B) -ZOWIE BENQ CAMADE (BUNGEE) - Redragon K552 KUMARA LED Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (only reason I have this is because I had it already from when I tried to keyboard mouse on Xbox one w/XIM4 device) - zowie Ben q GS-R Large mouse pad.
I haven't seen any screens in laptops yet over 144Hz, and I've only tested one so far which was the ASUS GL503VS Scar Edition, but that has a 7th gen CPU. I've not yet got my hands on any 8th gen CPUs for testing, but I believe ASUS will refresh that model with a better CPU, probably the 8750H. I also have never heard of a laptop with a 1080Ti, so you're probably out of luck there, the best you can probably get is a 1080, or dual 1080s in SLI if you're crazy, not sure how well CSGO performs with SLI so that may or may not actually help. Your PC sounds great, you can get a crazy laptop with 8700K and dual 1080s in SLI, it's the best I'm aware of, my video of it is here: ruclips.net/video/FrmSaJaOoJ8/видео.html the brand is Metabox in Australia, but it's a Clevo system so other resellers like Sager should provide the same thing, although the screen appears to only go to 120Hz rather than 144Hz.
I owned a gl703gs : i7 8750h, 17,3 full hd g-sync IPS 5ms 144 hz, 256go ssd, 1To sshd,... Screen is amazing, powerfull hell of a machine, EVERYTHING is smooth BUT g-sync tech means there is no gpu mix switch and u can't have intel integrated gpu and no nvidia optimus technology (so no power saving when on battery) : So you CAN'T be unplugged (2h30 at best when browsing, people don't realize browsing consume a lot and gaming you last like 1h or 1h30 but no more). I mean it's a laptop that is NOT versatile. This is for GAMING even Pro GAMING and intensive stuff and barely nothing else because it's make noise almost all the time (it's like a maserati : hard to drive in town). If you're not sensitive to noise then it's ok. it's never calm and quiet. NEVER. It blows air when on browsing. And it's ok because it's powerfull. but the relative thin design make the pitch of air blows going higher imo. u can't be in a library with it. In a more noisy place it's ok. i mean when you turn it on you doing nothing and stay on desktop, idle is 40 and is goes up. why? I mean it goes up by itself im doing nothing (gpu and cpu) then hit 45°C and blows then stop then blows at relative high pitch ( for me). Change it in rog gaming center to silent it does the same but beetween 45°C and 50°C, blows then stop etc. And when you doin just browsing, it blows continually. Undervolting cpu and gpu change temp a lot but at high temp in game (10°cpu drop with xtu, gpu 5-7° drop with msiA) with -0,150mv at max, max temp i noticed on gta 4 was 90°cpu (full load) and 65°gpu (not full load) before undervolting each., also u will need to use whisper mode in geforce experience to limit fps, nothing change when idle. but maybe it's me Again if you're not sound sensitive u won't be disturb and there is no problem with headphones. I have a friend with a dell xps 15 (less powerfull gpu, max-q) and same 8750h cpu stay at 35° and is cooler and quiet at idle. Depends on what u want, if u want a unbridled machine this is it but with a sacrifice to autonomy and noise. The screen is amazing, no tearing, no iput lag, no stuttering. smoothest u can imagine. I also noticed heat points on battery connector and screen connector but it doesn't seem to be a problem. If u want a quieter powerfull laptop go for max-q, maybe with icpu or nvidia optimus and this kind a technology on thus no g-sync. idk i'm no expert but i think i'll go back to a less powerfull machine with best battery life in future because it's more like a too compact gamer tower than a versatile laptop imo. To the youtuber : Very exhaustive review. Great work.
Not sure, doesn't look like the product page exists anymore so can't check. I honestly don't know the requirements for VR though, I suspect it's got what's needed in terms of specs, so you'll most likely just want to see if it has the ports needed, which I show here.
Jarrod'sTech Thanks for the quick reply, I think oculus s only requires 1xUSB 3.0 port and a display port(also miniDP). And as you said, the laptop has enough specs to run VR. So i guess its worth of trying. thanks :D
Not really, maybe the asus rog strix gl702vm (awful long name) might fit in this categorie. But a little less bezels would be nice.^^ I hope that the manufacturers making anything like that. Sorry for my bad english skills ^^'
Yes, it will reduce power usage which = less heat, unfortunately I wasn't testing undervolting back when I made this video, but all my recent and future laptop reviews include undervolting results now.
I haven't used too many others with similar specs/price yet, the only other that comes to mind is the MSI GE63VR, I actually have a comparison between the two here if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/YBaDTsjfvQw/видео.html
Shame the product is "Temporarily out of stock" for a long time for the 1070 version. I don't think Asus will make this available again as I'm sure they are currently busy with gaming laptops with 8th Gen Intel processors.
Hmm, technically the GS65 has newer 8th gen CPU, and 1070 Max-Q graphics, I wouldn't expect too much difference, I prefer the thinner design of the GS65 myself.
You never mentioned that the monitor is very very dim and its maximum brightness (nitz) is very low compared to other laptops and as a result you will suffer in games like Tarkov in dark areas.
I just want a laptop that I can play Counterstrike at 144hz, Dota 2 on the go and also be able to use photoshop/ after effects without problems of delay or freezing up
I have owned this laptop for about a week now, And I can not rate it highly enough, the fan sound i wasn't sure about from reading reviews leading up to purchase but having now owned it and stress tested it out a bit on games, its not as bad as i thought and as Jarrod mentioned its not an issue as soon as you use headphones or even the on board sound. Games look amazing, high refresh equals buttery smooth paired up with g-sync, its got all the right goodies inside. 9/10 would recommend.
Great to hear you like it! Thanks for sharing your experience too 😃
IDK. THE CPU SEEMS TO GET VERY HOT. IM BUYING A MSI RAIDER LAPTOP.
screen response time?
So you would say that gaming out loud is possible without the fans being a nuisance? Thanks!
Jason Yaputra 3ms I believe
loud and hot, all I needed to know, thx for the review
No problem!
Your videos are straight to the point, easy to understand and geeky enough for the enthusiast. Dig it! Subscribed :)
Thanks! Great to hear 😃
I am getting this laptop in a few days actually, just waiting on delivery. It looks sweet. I used to have an Alienware 15, but this one will out perform that well it seems. I can't wait.
Nice one! Hope you like it 😁
Getting mine tomorrow, buying of FB, used for 2 months for $950, coming from the Dell 7567 with i5 I'm so excited to get this tomorrow!
Kyle M. How is it?
And how does it play? Would you recommend it?
Trading my amd custom loop for one of these and cash. Lol
Thanks for including the U.S. measurements in the weight and dimension scenes. Very convenient.
No worries!
*"why does this guy not have more views"*
checks date
*"oh"*
Haha, still early days 😛
he is a good youtuber and i always been waiting for his video.the way he explained everything seems smooth plus, when you have a logic questions,he will try to give the answer.that whats make him different from other youtuber.
Thanks!
watched almost all your laptop reviews and picked this up! been using the laptop for 2 weeks now, it was either this or the raider but the build quality of this laptop just won it for me. superb build quality (built like a tank) and the laptop is just a sight to see (for me), it never throttled one bit (75-80 when gaming, 35-45 idle) haven't undervolted yet will try that soon, the bezels, meh its subjective. the screen is amazing, wish this was per key rgb. the battery life is pretty bad but hey its a gsync 1070. overall i would recommend this!
Good to hear it's going well!
U could have gone with scar 2bd edition xD
Should i get the rog strix scar/hero ii , msi gp63 8re, or helios 300 i7 version ???
@@Coconutballsack its a toss up between the rog scar or the msi. the hardware for both is superb, though i think the msi is a "bit" cooler. everything else is subjective.
I get the msi then thanks mann
Nice review again Jarrod for such a thin monster laptop that could compete with desktop configurations. This is highly recommended for photographer, video editors and gamers.
Cheers!
Thank you for the fast reply!
How does he hold up? Any problems?
Just ordered this laptop cannot wait to use it!
Nice! Let me know how you find it 👍
And how does it play? Do you recommend it?
@@basv458 it is nice machine, worth its price, screen is good, gpu gtx 1070 can be overclocked with msi afterburner. I have problem with my device is cpu 7300hq it sucks, bottlenecking the system, and aleady shortcircuited battery and it is my fault. Other than that decent device for 999$ that i paid.
@@basv458 if u buy any laptop first thing reinstall windows, mine is consistently show up to 70 fps
Excellent review as always. Thumbs up. Two questions though:
1. 32 GB RAM is single slot?
Yeah it runs a little warm, granted we just finished summer here, probably would be a little better with some undervolting.
Jarrod'sTech I agree
Just repaste with better thermal paste.
Repaste it with good paste, disable turbo boost, undervolt it, never got 80c when playing game (no undervolt just disable tb and repaste for me) note my ambient room temp is 27-30celc no ac
Undervolt + liquid metal repaste should drop those about 15-20C and costs under $20
I was about to buy this laptop but I didnt, because almost every buyer has complaint about the screen bleeding. So it turned out that wasnt at a specific unit but it was shipped like this. Surprisingly, you get no screen bleeding!
That type of thing is always difficult to measure because it can vary between panels, but yes in my experience here it was perfectly fine.
there is none wtf you talking about
Looks really cool, easy to upgrade and good components in general ... but 2 BIG MAIN CONCERNS :
1) Not having a Killer wifi in a gaming laptop in 2018 is a shame,
2) Extreme temperatures inside, really really high, so disipation systems seems to be really inefficient.
Great review as always Jarrod ;)
Thanks! Hmm maybe I should test Intel vs killer networking in a future video 😀
Jarrod'sTech funny thing is that Intel made Killer's recent WiFi chips
Jarrod'sTech looking forward to it, im a big fan of the Predator line
Air Espenilla im thinking to get the triton 700 as well but the storage is small and fills up quick
Air Espenilla
I own this laptop with 144hz screen gsync and 32GB ram with 512 ssd along with 2 tb HDD
Works perfectly fine
Only prob is battery which is 64wh and runs about 2.5 hours while watching a movie etc..
Never think of gaming without pluged in..
Temp gpu max 76 C and cpu max 84 C
while playing gtav and intensive tasks..
I had a problem with a fan and cpu throttled to 99 C.
I claimed the warranty which is 2 years and now everything is perfectly fine.
M very satisfied with it..
Its slim it has a very nice design, its powerful
No problem at all excpt fingerprint magnet
So i use it very carefully
Cz its an expensive machine.
No regrets....
Anotherthing....
After playing on 144hz... you will hate playing on low spec screen
Its 9/10
Nice review. So, what's your overall opinion? MSI GE63VR Raider Pro or this one? Thank you.
Hey
Is it still available this laptop in 2023?
Can you recommend where to buy it?
that laptop seems great except the battery which is why im still going for the aero 15x.. also a repaste would help thermals quite a bit
Yeah undervolting would probably help a bit too. Let me know how you like the Aero, I haven't used one yet 😃
Great review
Thanks!
just discovered ur channel. great content especially comparing older but powerful cpu/gpu to very recent cpu/gpu . nice vid btw. subbed and tapped the bell xd
Thanks! Great to hear you like it 😃
WOW, you had this review up before Linus Tech Tips :O ! Another great video BTW!
Thanks! Haha yeah I saw they posted theirs not long after me 😛 too bad I don't quite get as many views! 😉
Sounds like it's going well! I like the newer Scar II myself 😁
You should make a comparison between that laptop and the msi ge73 raider, also still looking forward for that 1070 vs 1070 max q
Hmm good idea, I'll see what I can do! I'm still waiting on the 1070 Max-Q laptop to arrive 😃 I was told it should be sent by the end of this week or some time next week.
Jarrod'sTech ,cant wait for the gtx 1070 vs 1070 max-q
I just got confirmation that it should be delivered tomorrow, so not long now!
Yeah not great, I haven't seen 99c in a while on more recent models apart from Dell's G5.
thank you for this perfect review..
No problem!
Now do the temp test with LM! XD
I have watched LTT test and dropped around 20°C when switched original dry putty for Liquid Metal. I think you should give a try.
Waiting for more awesome content!
Sub.
Thanks! Yeah that would definitely help out a lot, even undervolting would probably be useful. Unfortunately as I only borrow the laptops I don't get the chance to try LM myself 😛
Jarrod'sTech experiment on your own? cant see how itd hurt long as you keep it off the contacts, but if you crack open your laptop to that degree you should do gpu at the same time
nice video.
got one question… how long can this laptop last with games and upcoming games?
Loved this review, rlly good
Thanks!!
Hello Jarrod, great video as always. Which one would you recommend between this and the MSi GE63VR?
Jarrod'sTech Sounds great, looking forward to the review. Thanks!
Just wondering, but would this laptop be a good option for photo editing as well as gaming?
Yeah I'd happily use it for content creation and gaming, it's definitely got the power and the screen is fairly good in terms of colour reproduction as well.
Jarrod'sTech is there any one particular laptop you'd recommend as the best option for this specific purpose?
Nothing specific comes to mind, honestly anything that is fairly portable with an Nvidia 1060/7700HQ with a decent screen with good colour accuracy.
Jarrod'sTech thank you so much for the advice!
No problem!
Hi, have you the restore image of this laptop? I have troubles with keyboard stops working and screen flickering, thanks
Thank you.
Hey, I requested that as well as the hero 2 from ASUS a few weeks ago, just waiting on some review units to become available as they're currently with other reviewers, I want to do a review of each and also a comparison between the two, at this stage no ETA on when I'll have them though, could be a few weeks and takes me a couple of weeks to do the testing, so probably more than a month away at this stage I'm afraid 😥
very specific review.
im wondering if i use another monitor, is it going to lower the temperature little bit?
Good to hear you like it! 😃
Great review!
Thanks!
would you do a review of an old laptop gaming to see how much did we improved?
Try prime 95 im small ffts and furmarkt to see the temperatures
Yeah I've done some videos on older hardware in the past, the difficult thing is that it's a lot easier to get current generation stuff, as companies keep it on hand to loan for review, although generally it seems more difficult to get older stuff from them, and I'm not really at the stage where I can afford to buy too much second hand hardware myself.
I own this laptop with 144hz screen gsync and 32GB ram with 512 ssd along with 2 tb HDD

Jarrod'sTech my first thought after seeing at a display was like it has huge bazels but right after bringing home i feel like its perfect thin bazels like on its latest models look too odd and camera position too..
New model gl504 has only new processor and a bad shapped screen...
Nothing no edge excpt 8 gen processor
Its very thin as well...
Yeah the new 8th gen ones look really nice, I should be getting them for review soon 😃
Hi Jarod great review as usual!
Just wondering how the feature "Overboost" worked for you?
I switch from Auto mode to Overboost mode and hear no difference with the fans.
When switching to Overboost does it automatically ramp up the fan speeds?
or
Does it just increase the maximum rpm of the fans?
No problem!
To be honest I have no experience buying second hand, if it's coming from a reputable seller/store then it shouldn't be too bad, especially if you get some kind of warranty with it.
the best laptop so far !!
Good to hear you like it!
Thats so awesome bro......,would be eagerly waiting for that :)
99 C on gaming? What? That is too HOT.
Excellent review though, Mate.
Thanks! Yeah a bit toasty, though it was interesting that the external areas like the keyboard didn't get too hot, it seems good at taking the heat out elsewhere
Believe me stock thermal paste is sucks, i changed it with artic mx4, -15 to -20c at max temp
Techie ID How could you do that sir? Is there any tutorial video for it on RUclips or somewhere else?
Özgür Öztürk there is, see this youtube
ruclips.net/video/RwESaaSf-cU/видео.html Its a little bit different for me on heatsink area, but its still same model and same base to open it up
Techie ID Woah! Thank you, sir. One more thing: what brand did you choose for that "new" thermal paste?
Jarrod i need your help! Would you prefer asus gl503ge or lenovo y530 with only gtx 1050 4gb and 60hz screen as the asus is $52 higher in price?
$52 more to get the 1050Ti? If it's for gaming I'd definitely do that. I've got a video comparing the 1050 against the 1050Ti if you're interested, then you can see the differences to expect between them.
@@JarrodsTech not only that the asus has 120hz screen compared to lenovo which only have 60hz, I've watched the video many times btw ^^
Hello thanks for this video ! where did u get the Aura software ? i didn't found it on Asus support site. Thanks !
Search for it in the Microsoft windows store.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks mate
Honestly not sure, they might just have different versions, try either/both?
Hey jarrod
is the mouse is came from the same box or not...
Is that so?
Could be the issue, have you tried reinstalling the software?
THANKS FOR THIS MATE! MASSIVE CONTENT now I was able to decide which unit to buy I prefer 1060 gtx
No problem!
Hey, 1 more thing what laptop can u suggest with a budget of 2000$?
I suppose this one or the MSI GE63VR - I've actually got a comparison video between them both coming out tomorrow. I haven't really tested many others in that price range yet unfortunately.
Wow omg, what a lucky day for me. Well I guess I need to stay tuned and wait for that video really thanks man
Hey man I was trying to buy the link on the description on this video, but the problem is I cannot find 17inches model :(
Just wonder, between this ROG 503 vs Razer Blade Pro FHD 1060..should I keep the ROG 503 or the Razer Blade Pro FHD 1060.
This is a good gaming laptop, but the fan noise is quite loud :(
Yeah definitely above average compared to other gaming laptops I've tested, although it does have a 1070 in a fairly thin body, so not too unexpected I suppose.
i have this laptop but i have a problem in games with framedrops...
Asus rog gl503vs vs msi ge63vr raider...which one you will pick??
Quite a few people have asked this question, so I've contacted MSI To see if I can get the GE63VR Raider to do a review + comparison with this one 😃 hopefully I'll be able to let you know my thoughts once I've tried it out!
Waiting for ur review😀😀
Will you do a review on the Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop if you have the chance?
Cheers
forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-pa70hs-g.805708/page-34
here you can see a discussion about the throttling btw!!
So on idle, it is slight more quiet than the Vivo Book Pro? Interesting.
HaHa! Thanks for the morning laugh! Almost had coffee coming out my nose!
The best way to start the day 😛
Hey Jarrod! If you want a really good laugh, watch this! It's funny as hell! ruclips.net/video/wGOUuXFucEg/видео.html
😪 RIP GPUs
hi , thanks for u review , i would ask about logo back.. for ROG is it RGB color for chosen ??
No problem! I think it's only red, although thinking back I did forget to look in the software to see if you could change it, but I had a similar ASUS laptop that did the same which was definitely only red so it's likely the same.
thanks alot for that explaining and can you please give me a link of something for the original program for keyboard lighting control
No problem! You can find everything on the product page: www.asus.com/supportonly/GL503VS/HelpDesk_Download/
What is the reason that this laptop can't switch the integrated graphics card when regular use? No way to do it?
No worries, yeah I'll definitely include a screen comparison! I just sent an email to see if there's a GE63VR available, so now we wait and see!
Where did you buy this laptop? I cant find model on official site, Can you give information about shops if you have it. Ty)
I think they stopped selling it not long before I made the video, it disappeared of the ASUS website, I think it was replaced with an 8th gen model but not certain, maybe some websites still have stock though.
Thank you very much)
No problem, good luck!
Just bought this today
Nice! Let me know how it goes 👍
Is the 16GB variant dual channel or single channel???
Dual channel in mine, but not sure if that's always the case, could vary like drive sizes.
Is the video card in this laptop better than max-q?
Than the 1070 Max-Q? Yes quite a lot better, I actually have a full video coming out tomorrow comparing the 1070 in this laptop against the 1070 Max-Q, so you'll be able to see the difference there!
Can you review the lower brother GL503VM Hero edition please! I'm wondering if i would buy this or the MSI GF62VR. Thanks!
I've asked my ASUS contacts if it's available but was told they don't have one at the moment, so not sure if it will be possible, sorry.
Jarrod'sTech okay thanks! But let me know once they have 1 for you to review, that would help me and others alot for a choice. Thanks again!
I'll do my best to try get one!
bought the same model (gl503vs scar with gtx 1070) in Australia, but i noticed the "easy upgrade access" on mine is a bit different. mine only shows 1 RAM slot. in order to get to the other one I have to open the whole bottom cover of the laptop, and plus the speakers on my ROG SCAR are on the sides instead of the bottom.
Ooh that's a little more annoying.
and my CPU temperature never reached 99 degrees while gaming (AC Origins, Witcher 3, Tomb Raider), max was 78 (almost winter here)
Was the room temp as warm as mine? It's almost winter here too but it was pretty warm still back when I made the video and did the testing so that could contribute to the difference, also possible my unit was just extra toasty 🔥
How do you like this for content creation? This model is on sale in Tokyo where I live. Major discounts up to $500-$600 U.S.
Yeah pretty decent, good specs for video/photo editing, and a fairly colour accurate screen.
Thanks! I was impressed by the build quality
No problem!
Nice page by the way.
Cheers 😃
This laptop or the GL703GS?
I haven't used the GL703 yet, hopefully will get it in the future, though as a 17" I'd hope the cooling space is a bit better, newer 8th gen CPU too so I'd expect it to be a bit better in terms of performance either way.
Is there a difference between 15 inch model and 17 inch
Yeah 17 is a bit nicer for games I think but I prefer 15 for portability
@@JarrodsTech Also the 17 inch model has gtx 1060 instead of 1070
has anyone seen a video where to see how to actually disassemble the fan part to replace the thermal paste? cannot find one and i would like to do that. stuck with the laptop open for now.
How is the battery life?
It's in the video, sorry can't grab the time stamp I'm on my phone
@@JarrodsTech i have another question. Is it ok to play with plugged in eventhough it's 100% charged? Will it damage the battery life?
Just wondering. If I were to add external monitors to this laptop (for extended desktop not duplicated) how many can I hook up before it gives up on me. also what would be the best way to do so?
How ever many display ports it has is how many you can attach. It would depend if you're actually running GPU bound apps like games on all screens, if not it won't be an issue.
@@JarrodsTech after commenting I found some cables so went and played around. According to ports I can add 3 external monitors but managing 4 screens was pretty hardcore for my gpu. So I am gonna add 2 external monitors. Do you think it would be an issue if I would be running a game on one of the monitors?
did the gsync make any difference?
Thank you for your test. Before buying the laptop, this test helped me a lot, but I hope you can also test "GE63VR 7RE".
Thanks! I'll see if I can get my hands on one 😃
Thank you for your attention to this matter
No problem!
I would say that the GE73vr and GE63vr, would have been better with a faster SSD, like the one in this GL503VS, instead of the SATA drive it has, you can feel that things could have been more faster,
Also maybe if the GE73vr would have had a thunderbolt type-c enabled connection, but for me I doubt I would ever use this feature.
Jarrod'sTech btw nice review dude, thanks for pointing out that steaming hot CPU
Cheers @Unggul Prasojo!
Hi Unggul Prasojo,
I was playing Assassins Creed Origins, for about 3 hours, temperates was: CPU - 87 Degrees Celcius and GPU 80 Degrees Celcius.
This gl503 or the msi ge63raider?
I've had quite a few questions about this, and as I have not yet tested the GE63VR myself yet I've just asked my contact at MSI if I can get one for review, if I'm able to get one I'll do a comparison video 😃 otherwise if you can't wait, it does seem to be similar specs, but with a slightly cooler screen and perhaps better cooling from what I've read, but I'm more interested in testing for myself!
any comment on this or the msi gs65? I like the 17.3 screen on the strix and the $300 price diff, but the gs65 looks damn nice.
Awesome Thanks For the Quick Reply
No problem!
Buy now? Or wait for the new cpus? I saw somewhere the the zephyrus got the 8750h.
Personally at this point I'd probably wait a bit, the rumours that I've been seeing around the place seem to indicate that they could be announced in the next 1-2 weeks.
Jarrod'sTech awesome to hear, I'm super impatient, but a couple of weeks ain't bad hahah thanks!
No problem! Although I'm not sure even if the new CPUs are announced how long it will be until we actually see some laptops released, guess we'll find out!
Jarrod'sTech ive been waiting over 6 months, this could be a new form of torture. hard not to just eat a bullet and buy something to tide me over
Yeah I hear you, at least in theory in the next couple weeks there should at least be some news, then you could decide how to proceed from there
Please help. I am trying to get the best laptop for CS-go, therefore, a screen with the highest hz is a must. If 144hz is the highest hz at the moment for laptops, I’ll settle for that.
I would like:
8750H cpu or 8700k if possible
144hz monitor or higher is possible
1080 or 1080ti
The aero 15x and the MSi GS65 both have a 8750H cpu and 144hz monitor, but they have 1070 GPUs. Do you know if any manufacture will soon release a gaming laptop with 8750H, 144hz monitor, and a 1080 or 1080ti? Thanks you.
My current PC desktop is a beast and I’m trying to get close to duplicating that for travel.
My set up:
-8700k cpu overclocked to 4.8 w/1.25 core volt (not delidded)
-EK-MLC Phoenix 280mm AIO w/cpu block (highest temps on 1 hr stress test 71 C. Idle at 31-33 C)
-1080ti ftw3 hybrid (AIO w/fan on gpu)
-G.skill z trident 16gb (2x8) 14-14-14-34 ram
-960 pro 512gb m.2
-Seagate firecuda 2 Tb sshd
-Evga 850w p2 psu
-Phanteks Enthoo Pro m se
Peripherals
-zowie Ben q xL2546 (240hz/1080p/DyAc) monitor
-hyper x alpha cloud headset
- zowie Ben q ec2-B mouse (I also have Logitech g502 and it works just fine but I prefer the ec2-B)
-ZOWIE BENQ CAMADE (BUNGEE)
- Redragon K552 KUMARA LED Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (only reason I have this is because I had it already from when I tried to keyboard mouse on Xbox one w/XIM4 device)
- zowie Ben q GS-R Large mouse pad.
Great work.
Cheers! Thanks for sharing your experience with it too 👍
Does it support VR? because im gonna get oculus S
So i guess its worth of trying. thanks :D
How loud are the fans?
You can listen for yourself at 6:39
You say 26c is high, and here i am chilling with 32c room temperature
Well it's uncharacteristically high for where I am 😛 20c inside currently.aaa
Is it sturdy?
Yeah seemed to be.
@@JarrodsTech thanks
@@JarrodsTech could you recommend me a good GTX 1060 laptop with 120/144hz refresh
I'd look at the Acer Helios 300, haven't used too many around that price, maybe the FX505, both pretty similar in specs/price I think.
I would kile to see more gamingnotebooks in that formfactor with a 17 inch display and small bezels
Are there any models that you're aware of like that? If so let me know and I'll see what I can get 😃
Not really, maybe the asus rog strix gl702vm (awful long name) might fit in this categorie. But a little less bezels would be nice.^^
I hope that the manufacturers making anything like that.
Sorry for my bad english skills ^^'
No problem! I'll keep an eye out for something that meets that 😃
will undervolting help keeping cpu cool^?
Yes, it will reduce power usage which = less heat, unfortunately I wasn't testing undervolting back when I made this video, but all my recent and future laptop reviews include undervolting results now.
alright, thanks, would you recommend something else besides this laptop? i need a acurate display and the same spec and i love good cooling ^^
Hmm maybe, although it's still fairly new so I'd think they would! Guess we'll have to see.
is it better than MSI gs 65 stealth thin
Hmm, technically the GS65 has newer 8th gen CPU, and 1070 Max-Q graphics, I wouldn't expect too much difference, I prefer the thinner design of the GS65 myself.
You never mentioned that the monitor is very very dim and its maximum brightness (nitz) is very low compared to other laptops and as a result you will suffer in games like Tarkov in dark areas.
Is this better or new hp omen with same stats??
If same stats in theory should perform fairly similarly, I haven't tested any HP laptops yet so I can't really say without trying myself.
I just want a laptop that I can play Counterstrike at 144hz, Dota 2 on the go and also be able to use photoshop/ after effects without problems of delay or freezing up
This will do that, it didn't freeze up 😛
Jarrod'sTech I’ve got it down to two laptops. This one and the gigabyte aero 15x
I have this laptop and the csgo low average is so much higher then what I get. I get like 100-200 max on 1280x960 max anyone know why
