A luthier friend of mine manufactured a bunch of these a few years back for fun, utilizing different materials for the body. I used it on the title track of a CD called "Dig It " by Mo' Kauffey to achieve some killer sitar style blues slide guitar. I found it amazing for micro tonal slide work similar to the crazy stuff that Derek Trucks utilizes sometimes. I highly endorse these:) cool stuff!
Hi ex-mouser!😄 I got one for Christmas from my son, having a ball all over again! Nice to see you’re still at it. A reunion one day sure would be nice, still jammin with Rob here in the GTA.
Most beginner harmonica players start out with a C harmonica, so tuning to C on one of these works out great if you love to play along with a CBG and keep in tune. If you have other harmonicas, then it does not matter, but most beginners sick with the C harmonica as their first one. One issue with these Blues Box guitars is that the holes at the saddle sometimes need to be drilled out just a bit to allow the ferrules to be inserted properly. Not a big issue, but in mass assembly this sort of stuff does indeed happen. Something that you did not mention is that the CBG comes with a pretty good and easy to follow instruction book and the included CD also has a file with a tuner on it. Plus about 20 or so different patterns to learn. These are even cheaper at stores as Musician's Friend these days, so they make great gifts for young kids and even greater gifts to provide to military members who are overseas and all. The pickup is not really necessary to enjoy playing on them, but a small amp with reverb does wonder to their sound. Enjoy and thanks for posting this video.
a1930ford Most blues is played in second position on a harmonica, that means a C harp is usually played in the key of G. An A harp would be in a key of D, in second position. Once I can play a harp well , I would definitely like to get one of these!
Nice video. I picked one up while out shopping too. I play bass in a band and collect guitars and other stringed instruments, from Ukulele to Sitar and I am having great fun with mine. I think because it's so small and portable and I had been meaning to build a Cigar box guitar for some time(I bought a cigar box but that was as far as I got). Unfortunately both my children are adults who don't play any instruments at all although I did try and interest them.. I found my favourite sound is with a bit of distortion through a Fuzz pedal..
Ordered one for my son. Can't wait to hear him play some blues!
