I understand hundreds of years ago where education wasn’t available and they had no choice, but today, to know that one of the very first slave ships, if not the first was named the good ship Jesus, the African slave trade etc, why believe? Imagine if a country today invaded America, took its people as slaves, destroyed the history, gave you another language, forbid you to practice your culture and replaced it with theirs. Fast forward 400 years later, how do you think their descendants would react when someone comes criticizing their belief system? Answer, the same way black Christians respond today.
These guests are speaking the TRUTH!! I need to look more into them. So very well spoken and articulated about their points in ways that I as a black atheist can't always articulate with religious folks in my family.

What Sean is doing here is making a so-called "Straw Man argument." He has nothing to attack. Atheism = lack of belief; it's not a movement, religion, philosophy, nor creed. That's not very sensational, so Sean had to keep adding "straws" and making atheism seem opposing, aggressive, and controversial than it is in order to have something to attack. If you're a theist, do not argue with an atheist like this. He also smacks of mysogeny. The guests were articulate and I plan on looking up more of their work.

Yes, he did get in his feelings because religious belief is not rational but mainly emotional. Poor guy may have thought he was ready to have this conversation but actually wasn't. There's a name for this and it's called "cognitive dissonance".
Without emotionalism you can't have the mindless control, fear, unwarranted guilt, and indoctrination that the christian cult imposes on its followers. Therefore, if challenged.. cult members are likely to react in the most animalistic fashion.
No one got uncivil...🤔😒. I’m Christian, but I’m understanding them clearly. The host keeps says/ supposing CERTAINTY when they have stated multiple times that it is about NON BELIEF and a necessity for scientific proof/evidence - NOT a certainty of non existence. Also, atheism doesn't come from being angry, either at the church or at some imaginary "god". Atheism comes from realizing that theism is irrational and illogical. Religion comes from emotion, atheism comes from intellect. Once you figure out that there is no evidence to defend any supernatural belief, it's impossible to hold onto that belief except through fear.

I basically revealed my skepticism of religion and Christianity. He responded by quoting me a Bible verse and gave me references to Kent Hovind like apologists. Later, he made a random post on Facebook, not directed at me in response to my questioning, he said something like _think for yourself, and when you do success, give God all the credit._ I was quite upset but I let it slide.
One thing he's doing incorrectly is presuming atheism is the exact mirror opposite of his beliefs -- his specific beliefs. It's not that they don't believe in any type of god, it's that they don't believe in his god & all the things his god "means"; eg: all the things he justifies through his theism. Such as: Where did humans come from? He believes it was from his god or his god's will. Atheists do not believe so. And to that, he presumes the narrative he accepts has a detailed counter-narrative and compelling, inspiring, or comforting, story behind theirs. The problem is that atheist don't need that. They don't need an explanation to how the zebra got their stripes or where languages came from because the root issue is the issue: Did a god do it & was it this particular god?
‘You’re definition is broad’ -maybe yours is narrow?’- 😢😢 that’s mean to put the same thing on me that I tried to put on you.😢😢 ...trying to silence her...
My travels have taught me that Christian's do not respect their God, they fear NOT respecting their God under the threat of eternal violence. See stockholm syndrome. -Keep Learning
violence is the only thing that people obey. why do you not break the law? because the police will come. if you could steal or do whatever you would. but because other people have the might you obey. Might makes right. so saying "they fear NOT respecting their God under the threat of eternal violence. " is pretty dumb considering people obey the Goverment under fear of getting punished also. so its not just about God but about humans need to be kept in line.
I been an Agnostic all my life! Went to a church when I was young. All I did was just run around with my cousins. Grew up to learn about Christianity, buddhism(Zen), islam, taoism, hinduism. I learned it all. I Was on a spiritual journey I would say for about 15 years learning all them religions. but I never found anything that stuck with me or that I truly believed in 100 percent. I always had questions and never got answers. Or I would look at one religion like "this can't be true". With all the people in the world with different beliefs and faiths. To me i ask which one is true? Now im just truly myself and I don't worry about religion in any kind of way. I've always been in love with knowledge and wisdom. I love the way the ladies handled the way the host tried to push the burden of proof atheism. Atheism simply means I do not believe. How can you show evidence to something you do not believe in?
3:51 NO IT WAS NOT "UNKIND" SIR. sorry but you can't have a double standard. the young lady had just as much right to suspect your view of what an atheist is to be quite "narrow", as you have the right to suspect your guests views of atheism to be quite "broad". gather your emotions before you speak next time SIR
I like this host typically. But he seemed to approach this from super critical lens vs seeking understanding. Then...he tells them their belief was too broad, then got mad when she gave it back to him and said he was narrow. How Sway?
I disagree with Sikivu's (the married woman) statement about not being able to "prove a negative". Where that's true in a scientific sense there can be evidence against the conceptually illogical. Things that, by their own definition, can't actually exist except as a euphemism. "Cold heat" isn't a thing. They are, conceptually, contradictory. A "flying rock" isn't flying under it's own power or with any intent to fly, it is being propelled. There are things that inherently contradict themselves. The very definitions of what gods can/can't do contradict themselves to the point of inherent obliteration. Something that exists outside of time, but in time; Something that can interface with nature but is beyond nature; Something that can know everything, do everything, at not cost or risk, but can somehow opt not to; etc. Pagan gods make more sense than the Abrahamic god but even they are problematic in their powers & limits. It's not about "proving" a negative it's about logically assessing the inherent contradiction breaking the possibilities of their existence.
Christian doctrine proclaims GOD is limitless. Some Christians attempt to set limits on the limitless. It seems there is not clarity on how words limit reality. Atheist declare there is no evidence for GOD. Evidence would be in the form of words. Words whole function are to define. GOD is limitless and can't be contained by any words or concepts Atheists also point to the negatives of mistakenly setting limits on GOD. Unfortunately we see these negatives from various religions reported constantly in the news media.
@@FirstPersonHood Do you know how people say "You can't grasp the concept of how big the Universe is"? When they say that they argue that "limitlessness" is truly unfathomable by our merely mortal minds. . The irony, being, that we use those words of "limitlessness", "infinity", and "omni+", to introduce the concept itself. Therefore, grasping the concept means I do, truly, understand what it means. Just like I can grasp the concept of how big the Universe is because we have measurements. Sure, I couldn't possibly track every galaxy, every star, every world, with a full understanding of all that is going on in all of those places as one moment, but that's a very limited understanding of how "infinity" is managed. . One way to define infinity, which is accurate, is to count to the highest number you can think of and then add one. Did that number exist before you got there? Abstractly, yes, it did. Were you thinking of it before you got there? No. You weren't. Were you prevented from going there? Nope. You could. Therefore, even before you conceived the +1 number you had access to the infinite -- you always did. . Therefore, I can perceive the infinite because I can imagine the Universe. When asked about a specific galaxy supercluster I can then imagine that. When asked about a specific planet, I can imagine that. Anywhere I go I can digest that concept. I don't need to keep/maintain focus on the thing before. After all, when accessing "infinity" all I do is add +1 and I can forget about the number before -- it's still accessible by subtracting 1. . It's a nonsensical cop-out to claim we can't fathom the infinite, or limitlessness, we can. It's not taboo. . To claim a superbeing could track & maintain all of everything is a weird claim to because it contradicts the very nature of prayers for change, free will, & even prophecies. A superbeing who was fully aware of everything going on in all times wouldn't even need to create people to tempt them. . There's nothing about the Abrahamic gods, or supernatural gods, that make sense.

This chap is just dishonest. He's applying religious standards to concepts that are outside of religion; and when he says he's having a civil conversation it's just a power move to put down the guests and stop them from challenging his worldview.
I honestly don't see how the comments say that he got into his feelings when he just basically gave his point like they did and pretty much agreed with them. The only comment he really took personal is her saying your view could be too narrow. His point being I'm not hashing your view so don't bash mine. There is a growing number of black people that feel that if you believe anything other than Christianity you are open minded and of you agree with Christianity, you are closed minded. Though she was using big words, basically she was only saying is I have facts about everything else but because I haven't been convinced about God then I will be against him until I am convinced otherwise. The other lady was basically saying I don't dog churches, it's just not my thing. In this new age movement, there is a growing number of blacks who only view the church as another outreach for the community development but don't really care about Christianity itself. Notice, they couldn't say anything good or bad about the churches who bless the community. My thing is be apart of the church that's doing the work. That's like knocking people who are homeless for being lazy.
To say his idea was too narrow was stating factual information. He was incorrect in his assumption of how Atheism is defined, and shocked at how broad it actually is. Instead of taking her at her word, he took it as an insult, because it challenged his belief (not his knowledge). Ironically, the concepts of belief and knowledge, and understanding the difference was at the crux of this interview, both in topic and in discourse.
Awww. Dr. Sean, come on now. Your guest was not trying to take your conversation in an uncivil direction. She simply challenged your thought process to try and get you to open your mind. Thank you! I didn't take it personally. He felt a little embarrassed because he had a plan to paint us out a certain way and he couldn't do it. He wanted to play off the typical notion of what ppl perceive atheism to be. I get it because at one time, I shared that perspective of atheism. But that's because I was used to arrogant white men talking about atheism like Bill Maher or Christopher Hitchens or Sam Harris. Popular dick heads who look down on believers. As a Black person, how can I look down on my people who fought for slave abolition by organizing in churches? Who made sure the needs of their local communities were met and took care of sick people when hospitals were segregated and their was one "Colored" doctor that served all the black people without a hospital? I could go on but my point is that Black people have a perception of Atheism based off the vocal white men they've heard talk about it. Dr. Sean wanted to play the "Well both sides are nonsensical extremes" which was a way to discredit our perspectives. Notice, at no point did we attempt to discredit belief.

It appears that Dr. Sean is incapable of having this discourse as he is taking their perspectives on deities very personally. These two young ladies articulated their viewpoints very well. Religion is a very sensitive topic in the black community. Unfortunately, individuals who don't believe or question the existence of a god are sometimes deemed wayward and/or often times shunned.
When someone who's called has no clue about the issue and has to be schooled by two young ladies is priceless!!!

This interview was odd. i am a definite believer in god but I understand what they are saying although my opinion differs. He seems so appalled that he is unable to intake the conversation. He wasted so much time repetitively asking the definition of a atheist just to say his opinion of it . He wouldn’t accept that he may have a opinion of it but that does not change the facts of what the actual definition is

Their responses are very coherent yet they’re still met by the misogynistic religious blockers of this interviewer. Whenever they make a clear point he seeks to over generalize or tries to manipulate them. You can see the extreme physical discomfort he has in their confidence. The conversation of community investment or lack of and anti LGBTQ+ aspect was something he was so unprepared for. He finally had to relent to that. Truth wins!
This interview was better then most. What I always wonder is any Christian that knows the history of the religion, slavery, the way in which our ancestors became Christian, how do you reconcile still believing in the belief system today? I understand hundreds of years ago where education wasn’t available and they had no choice, but today, to know that one of the very first slave ships, if not the first was named the good ship Jesus, the African slave trade etc, why believe? Imagine if a country today invaded America, took its people as slaves, destroyed the history, gave you another language, forbid you to practice your culture and replaced it with theirs. Fast forward 400 years later, how do you think their descendants would react when someone comes criticizing their belief system? Answer, the same way black Christians respond today.
You did a complete 180 toward the end of your thoughts.

These women are very intelligent. I wish this video was longer.
Yes, I wanted to see him get roasted longer. 40 minutes would've been nice given how overly emotional he is about his imaginary cult being challenged.
I talked about this interview on my channel
Atheism is just like she said it take belief out of the picture and only choose to deal with the facts not the theory of something that can’t be proven
We will not advance as a people until we give up the magical thinking. No one is going to put food on your table. If you'er going to eat you have to make it happen. I remember a very religious guy who was in a great educational program. He was on the cusp of entering a wonderful profession. A single test stood in front of him. He had a few years to pass the exam. Unfortunately he failed his exam and was not allowed to continue in the program. He told me that he was confused, he thought that god would have brought him through. My friend was unprepared and did not know the material. Religion has been used over the years to make people docile and prepare them to be conquered. I am certain that pastors will thank the lord for protecting them from Covid - 19 once this pandemic resolves and churches are reopened. Chance and luck are misidentified as divine intervention. I love how the interviewer is looking at the ladies like they are crazy. It's almost like he invited them on his show to ridicule them.

She wasn't rude or uncivil but he got in his feelings.
These women got Dr. Sean together REAL QUICK 👏🏽
No one got uncivil...🤔😒. I’m Christian, but I’m understanding them clearly. Am I missing something??🧐. To the credit of all involved, the conversation seemed to turn around towards the latter stages of the interview - and there were some fantastic points made.
It's alright for him to call her "too broad" but she's unkind by calling him "narrow"?
Also, atheism doesn't come from being angry, either at the church or at some imaginary "god". Atheism comes from realizing that theism is irrational and illogical. Religion comes from emotion, atheism comes from intellect. Once you figure out that there is no evidence to defend any supernatural belief, it's impossible to hold onto that belief except through fear.

I'm an agnostic atheist. How hard is that to grasp😂😂😂???

Very well put Mr. Jones.
@@royjones5790 Great ideas. I see words like limitless to point to the reality that the human mind can never know what is going to happen next. This was just too good. Ms. Hutchinson is very well spoken & knows her shit.
Great ideas.
They should have told him that he is also an atheist towards other gods apart from the one he believes in.

Awww. Dr. Sean, come on now. Your guest was not trying to take your conversation in an uncivil direction. She simply challenged your thought process to try and get you to open your mind. Probably, to help you grasp what they were trying to explain to you, but you couldn't seem to wrap your mind around. No shade! I'm just saying I think you, tried to check her, at her attempt to be playfully helpful.
I hope she didn't take it personally and continues to speak out. Although, I am a believer, i still think she had some wonderfully valid points.
