Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. So, it seems that the most commonly asked question from this video and a couple of previous videos is "What did you do to your finger?" OK....here goes....I don't know exactly HOW it happened, but the tendon in my left hand ring finger snapped with what the doctor called a "swan tear". I've had to keep it in a brace and wrapped for 6 weeks. I am no longer wearing the brace, but the finger is still swollen and I cannot straighten the outer knuckle joint. I have the option of surgery, a long rehab, and all with a small percentage chance of getting the finger to straighten out and back to 100%, or I can leave it as it is and perform some physical therapy, deal with the bent knuckle joint and try to regain the strength in my left hand, which is already coming back some. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. Either way, my hand is still functional and, for that, I am grateful. Thanks to all for your concerns and prayers. God bless.
I was going to ask about your finger. Whatever you choose to do, may you have the best outcome with the shortest recovery time possible. I can't imagine Midwest running very well without you at the helm. Prayers for you & your family.
Organ regrowth can help regrow it back to a like new condition. Just saying, if the surgery doesn't work out this could literally fix your broken tendon and knuckle joint. They are getting quite advanced at doing this. You know how arthritis happens when the cartilage wears out? Organ regrowth can literally grow back new cartilage to replace it, meaning the joint can work as if it were new.
Every time my lil grandson ( 18 months old) heard your intro music he stops what he is doin runs in an climbs up on my lap an won't move till the video is over. Im thinking he was a tow truck operator or something close to that in a past life the way he is just fascinated with it. So from RJ and myself we thank you for sharing these adventures videos with everyone Sir ! ✌️❤️🙏
Must be nice for a change to be working in a nice quiet carpark taking your time and not on the interstate with traffic whizzing past. Thanks also for the drive, enjoyed following along on Google Maps from Australia.
Gotta LoL, back in the '90's there would be up to 30 bucket trucks in my parents yard waiting to be picked up to go to the trucks new destination, and a lot of the new trucks had either flat tires or the two speed axle would be stuck in low range, we had a cat the driver's called "the inspector" , she would climb up and "inspect" the trucks when they were in the yard, one driver had left the yard and got fifty miles down the road when he had to pull over and turn around to come back to the house, the cat had climbed in to the engine compartment and took a ride, the driver rescued her and put her in the cab and brought her back home
Well done Ethan for completing the Miller school course. Proving a great asset to the family business. Neat bit of problem solving there, Ron. As you say, multiple ways of getting to 10. God bless and greetings from the UK.
Its interesting how you went about towing that. Great work as always! I work for the equipment manufacturer that built that truck and I know for a fact we haven't considered how you would recover one of our pieces of equipment. I would love to know more about what you would like to see on a bucket truck or a digger derrick that would make towing and recovery easier? It's sparked a fun conversation in our office of how our equipment gets used in the field.
In my opinion, having discussions about how the things you manufacture are used in the field is one of the most important parts of the development cycle. And not just among yourselves, but with actual users, the ones using the equipment several hours a day. I work in a hospital, and when we implemented a new electronic medial record system, we invited all the departments to join us and tell us what they want. Most of them did. The ones that did not are the ones complaining the loudest about how the new system doesn't fit their needs...
I didn't realize you had more than one rotator, at the beginning of the video you said you were heading out in the rotator number eleven, that is great you have rotators to choose from. Fun simple video, thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your video's, if possible and footage exists, a video sbout the dangers you and other first responders deal with , saw a clip of yours , HP saw a dolt not remember the move over law , and he was upset . Brings light to the job you do 👍
Yea!! Big Tate shined up looking good!! Just need a touch up with the paint colors and he'll be looking show room ready like he usually does. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend. Loved the ride along!!
Ron you need a bigger box on your truck with more compartments to put all your extra gear that your have now you keep adding to it you'll need to pull a trailer to carry it all lol.
Thak you for the great shots on the way out and back, so nice to see your beautiful country. Please keep on with those shots as there's always more to see! Love your work Ron and god bless.
Even injured, you still get the job done promptly and safely. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for the update and information about your finger as I had asked in the past.
RON,GOOD AFTRRNOON,YES,I WAS AWAKE TIL 7 AM,THEN SLEPT,ITS NOW14;07/2;07PM, WHAT AN INTERESTING RECOVERY,,GEE 4X4,having to pulls drive shaft ,& plug brakes,at least daylight, nice weather, hey, I hope your ring finger,on your LEFT HAND,gets ok sooner than later, GOD BLESS , HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL MEMORIAL DAY,WITH YOUR FAMILY STAY WELL,,, till. Next time. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Back MANY years ago I had an old at that time car that made me feel like when pulling into a gas station saying, check the gas and fill up the oil. Not only was it a leakier, but a burner too. If I stepped on the go pedal to hard I would leave whoever was behind me in a cloud of smoke. ☁☢🚭
Hi Ron! Awesome video as always! If I lived closer (I'm in Florida) I'd break out the motorcycle and come video for you! I was watching that light bar you have and had a couple of ideas. I don't know if any are incorporated and just weren't obvious, so I'll list them out: a. Add a wireless dash-cam to the bar so you have live view/video from the rear looking backwards - it's not a case of you-never-know, more a case of 'when'! b. Add a GPS tracker to the bar, so if it does come off for any reason, you can find it again! c. Add a charging port to the bar so, like with the remote for the tator, when you put it in the bin you can plug it in and charge it ready for the next use. d. Add a security cable to it to keep it attached to the towed vehicle in case the rubber bungees fail - kind of negates the need for point b above! When it comes to the breakaway chains (between the towing and towed vehicles) I'm amazed that they still rely on 1920's technology! Why isn't there something to take up the slack on those chains to prevent them from dragging on a corner? It should be easy to design and implement, take up very little space/weight on the back of the truck, but I'll leave this here for others to put in their ideas! Hope your finger gets better soon - you know for sure that murphy has his sights set firmly on it! have a blessed day!
Ok Rotator Ron, I've seen that ring finger wrapped up at least 3-4 times now. Do we need to just cut it off or what lol. U got to be careful, hands are precious and necessary for your line of work. As always, your videos are great. Keep up. The good work and God Bless you and your family and staff.
Great video Ron. Always interesting to see how you get things chained and tied up for towing. I have been looking closer at tow trucks as I drive along.
Walk around is a great idea to get updates but I have also enjoyed cleaning and maintenance routines as well. You have gotten the big girl into some really messy situations.
on the road, Ron Pratt, Gotta quote an old song; "SLOW DOWN! I see spots! Them lines on the road, just look like dots! " Commander Cody. The Hot Rod Race. As far as your finger goes, the hands and fingers are a tricky thing. The surgery can go either way. I AM NOT a doctor. But, if what's going on with that, I wouldn't change it. Prayers, good thoughts, and, well-wishes, to you.
Hello, Ron. You presented an interesting way to hook up the break away chains. As you have taught in the past, there is more than one way to get to ten. Too sorry to hear about the condition affecting your left hand. Glad to hear the condition is getting better with strength returning. Please be safe and God Bless.
Ron by any chance is there a concise and good up to date glossary of terms for all the equipment used in the recovery industry you could recommend & point me to... Thanks...!
Those rollers for the safety chains always seem to cause trouble for you and others I’ve watched on RUclips. It’s to the point where you don’t use the rollers and they are just in your way! Would you consider removing them to get them out of your way? I wonder if there’s an improvement that could be made on the design, because it’s a fantastic idea to make the safety chains easier to use so operators are more likely to utilize them. I love these “odd” vehicles that you get. It’s always fun to see different units wether it’s a hi-rail truck, heavy hauler, car hauler, etc. These are my favorite type of videos!
That song that you use regularily use on your videos, was used in another RUclipsr's channel - containerman2 ; awesome aerial 4k view! nice big lashup. This is just a head's up notice, letting you know that someone else likes your taste in music also.
I towed one like that once-- and had the steering wheel secured.. and it was all over the road-- something broke in the steering so the locked wheel had NO effect on it... THAT was fun!! (not).. ha.
Ron, based on your comments in this video, I am sending you 5 Round Tuits and 5 Stick Tuits. That is one of each for yourself (you did say as soon as you get one), and the other 4 as you see fit around the shop. Always enjoy your videos, best wishes and thoughts for you and yours, and hoping you don't have to work too much on this Memorial Day holiday.
As someone with limited experience driving larger trucks, I've always been curious about the instrument cluster on the dash of the Rotator. There are something like 17 gauges. I can certainly guess what a few are, but have always been curious what the rest are for.
I can answer that, oil pressure, water temp, oil temp, Trans temp, drive axle temp x2, air pressure times 2. Boost gauge, volts, pretty much a temp gauge for all the fluids. Looks confusing at first but easy to get used to. My truck set up the same way, other trucks set up much simpler.
Happy early memorial weekend have a good and safe weekend God bless u Ron keep up the good work and stay safe when responding 2 calls code 3 or helping costumers out
Hi Ron. I've been watching your issues with your ring finger. I worry that you will snag your pinky and sprain or mangle it too, especially without a glove. May I make a small suggestion. Some years back I had an operation to my right hand ring finger which went septic and then caught a super bug. It took many months of powerful antibiotics to stop it from taking my hand in gangrene. I had a two inch open hole right to the bone that had to be protected, but not sealed. I had a fancy brace to stop my finger from moving to protect the tendon and joint. Of course, just like you on your left hand, that darned pinky finger kept getting in the way and hurt. My solution was get a single glove large enough for me to put my bandaged finger and the pinky together into the thumb. I cut the thumb off of the bigger glove along with enough material to be a skirting. I cut off the two outside fingers of my work glove and with good contact cement (because I can NOT sew worth a darn), inserted the prepared thumb cutting into the place where the other glove fingers had been. Now you still can't move your damaged finger much if at all, but it and your pinky will be covered and move together and all your left hand will have the protection of a work glove. You also might want to paint the inserted thumb piece a bright color to remind you not to try to use the full grasp of that hand. Ugly perhaps, but at least your left hand will be safer from splinters and cuts and all the sundry mishaps for which we wear work gloves. (PS if you're wondering, I lost most of the movement of my finger, but I didn't have to amputate any bits. Funnily, my hand is aways flipping the bird any time I make a fist.)
Just a tech tip: bring in the number 8 tow truck to lift the front end whilst the 12 truck handles the rear. Then tow it away in unison without having to disconnect the drive shaft. Ur welcome. --Pepe's
I love the ratchet straps you use for the steering wheel . I have a pair of them I use when hauling things in my pickup and usually never use my old ones unless I need them .
I'm not sure which video editing software you use, but you may be able to use an equalizer or hi-pass filter to reduce the wind noise in the audio. Since Ethan is a musician, he probably has a friend who could show you how that works. 😃
I love the dashcam view on the drive there and back. Please keep it if you have the time to activate it when going on calls. Also if its a tricky tow out of a tight spot might have it view the load? Love the work and stay safe.
I might consider longer breakaway chains, but that problem seems pretty rare and I don't know how deep those pockets are for the chains. If my little work pickup has taught me anything, it's that it can adapt. Encounter a problem, find a solution. Rinse and repeat with next problem.
Thanks for the information on your finger Ron. I hope it’s not too painful, although with your job, I guess you have to change the dressing regularly. I wish you a very speedy recovery! Maybe time to get a new auto shift Rotator || Best Wishes Roy W UK.
Another great video. Question - How did you know that the front axle would be weight rated for a rear end frame tow? Do manufactures factor that into the truck design and leave extra steer axle load capacity for a rear frame tow? I know certain vehicles like a diesel pusher motor home can only be towed by lifting the front axle because a rear frame lift would severely overload the front axle load capacity.
Enjoying very much and learning a lot from your videos Ron thank you very much for sharing but I must say you're going to have to keep your fingers out of them bad places because it's got to be tough working with one hand and one finger being bad😂

Wow how weird. Thank you for answering my question. Will be praying for the doctors to have wisdom and for you to have healing.
Praying for you

Perfect start to the weekend.
The first time I have seen the rotator pass a vehicle on a two lane highway. Congratulations.
Saw your FB post about Ethan's Rotator Training completion. Congrats to Ethan. Family tradition and another asset for Midwest Truck...

Those guys were here in Tampa Florida ,restoring power last hurricane we had here. Nice bunch of guys
Those power crew guys are saviors. Stay safe and may your storms be gentle.
Yay happy friday. Happy memorial day ron and crew and family. Just got a couple hrs to get home then im parking for a long weekend
Well done Ethan for completing the Miller school course. Proving a great asset to the family business. Neat bit of problem solving there, Ron. As you say, multiple ways of getting to 10. God bless and greetings from the UK.
The big difference is in this industry you want to find the safest way to get to 10 because with some situations you may not make it to 10.
Thanks Ron for another great video.
Have a great weekend Ron

Good morning. Which equipment manufacturer do you work for? I was just wondering what kind of winch & bumper that is on the front of that truck.
@@whatsmynameagain691 Its a braden pd18 winch bumper package, 20k hydraulic winch with a capstan shaft as well.

I saw the title and for a split second I'm like "Oh no! The rotator broke down and had to be towed in!"
😂
Heaven forbid the thought of 'tator having to be towed
Friday comes around oh so soon. Another Ron Pratt video.
Look at the positive. It's dry, sunny, the ground is clean and paved, no traffic and you are the master of the tow!
Love the driving portion of the videos.
you always make it look so easy
Good job Ron! Eddie
Enjoyed the ride today! Happy Memorial weekend.❤
love the music you played while driving in this video you do brilliant videos smiles
It is very awesome to watch you guys work and save the day, Ron. Thanks for sharing another exciting video, my friend.
I didn't realize you had more than one rotator, at the beginning of the video you said you were heading out in the rotator number eleven, that is great you have rotators to choose from. Fun simple video, thanks for sharing.
Lol. He only has 1 rotator, it is just designated as unit#11
Enjoy your video's, if possible and footage exists, a video sbout the dangers you and other first responders deal with , saw a clip of yours , HP saw a dolt not remember the move over law , and he was upset . Brings light to the job you do 👍
Great video Sir as always hope your finger gets better soon . Watching from the U.K.
Yea!! Big Tate shined up looking good!! Just need a touch up with the paint colors and he'll be looking show room ready like he usually does. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend. Loved the ride along!!
Ooo a driving portion, I always love seeing the driving portions
Another great job Ron another sore finger mate😂😅😊
Ron, thanks for leaving in the driving portion! I'm a co-pilot, I love seeing everything and exploring.
That truck is called a digger derrick 😊
Ron you need a bigger box on your truck with more compartments to put all your extra gear that your have now you keep adding to it you'll need to pull a trailer to carry it all lol.
Coming soon...another Midwest semi with a 53' trailer just for equipment 😂
Thak you for the great shots on the way out and back, so nice to see your beautiful country. Please keep on with those shots as there's always more to see! Love your work Ron and god bless.
Ànother job well done Ron
It was nice of them to be in a parking lot, no traffic.
Hopefully your hand gets better quickly,
You made this,Look Easy. Metro Detroit Loves you guys!! G
I like the way you used that CHAIN, to secure the unit to your underlift. Chains Rule..
Even injured, you still get the job done promptly and safely. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for the update and information about your finger as I had asked in the past.

Thanks again for sharing your videos Ron. Enjoy your memorial day weekend. God bless you and your family 🙏
Cool 😎
Oil is not nasty, it's rust proofing. Gotta love the self lubricating chassis system 😂
CSW approved 👍 😂😂
Back MANY years ago I had an old at that time car that made me feel like when pulling into a gas station saying, check the gas and fill up the oil. Not only was it a leakier, but a burner too. If I stepped on the go pedal to hard I would leave whoever was behind me in a cloud of smoke. ☁☢🚭
I once owned a diesel car made in the 80's... no rust on it, even in the new england salt belt..
Thing is, if it's lubricating somewhere it shouldn't be, it's probably going missing somewhere it should be. 😜
Hi Ron! Awesome video as always!
If I lived closer (I'm in Florida) I'd break out the motorcycle and come video for you!
I was watching that light bar you have and had a couple of ideas. I don't know if any are incorporated and just weren't obvious, so I'll list them out:

GREAT VIDEO-- had to have my Dose of DAILY TATER as usual... (and when there aren't any new ones-- i watch the previous ones AGAIN!! ha.)
Ron your Wrecker looks good, but you need to have your wheels polished.
Love the dashcam! I have been waiting years for this! I enjoy the in cab videos also, but love this for the long runs!
Congratulations Ethan on your certification.
And Happy and safe memorial day weekend.
Love the music you played on your way to the vehicle to tow
It always breaks down to, it could be worse, it could be raining. Prayers and best of luck with your hand.
That seemed a nice easy job for a change and not in the middle of a big freeway or have to get it out fast. be safe out there.
Great video Ron. Always interesting to see how you get things chained and tied up for towing. I have been looking closer at tow trucks as I drive along.

Thank you so much for the video please post more videos a week God bless
Happy Memorial day Ron and Crew let us not forget the real reason for a 3 day weekend I believe you could have used your small Pete on this tow
Customer requested Tator
Customer said go big, Ron even said his LandAll would have been a great choice as well.
Enjoy your videos. Thanks.
I was thinking the past few videos that you haven't done a ride-a-long in a while.
Much love to you and your family 💜
Interesting use of the pintle hook. I never knew your breakaways were that short. I figured that they were atleast 20 ft
A 20ft chain gets used up pretty quick when that outrigger is 1ft square tube
Ron by any chance is there a concise and good up to date glossary of terms for all the equipment used in the recovery industry you could recommend & point me to... Thanks...!
I watching your videos and I have my bells on your videos and I'm subscribed to your videos and 👍
Don't you just love the weather in southeast MO.
And thank you for a video maybe a tour of your city to use the drone or drive around just an ideal
Anybody else ever expect to see 4 legged supervisors on these jobs of various sizes and disapointed when you dont

Another great job done
That's a LOT of truck for that tow!
Thank you very nice love your videos
Thanks for the video
As someone with limited experience driving larger trucks, I've always been curious about the instrument cluster on the dash of the Rotator. There are something like 17 gauges. I can certainly guess what a few are, but have always been curious what the rest are for.
Same, I’d love to see and get an updated truck tour of the fleet. From smallest to largest or largest to smallest.
Like the elevator music. Very nice.
Enjoyed the video Ron. Looking foward to watching future ones.
Another great recovery…. An easy one! Stay safe.
Ur welcome.

I love the ratchet straps you use for the steering wheel . I have a pair of them I use when hauling things in my pickup and usually never use my old ones unless I need them .
I like the wrecked on highway videos
Well done
I am always intrigued with the different ways Ron solves problems when the usual orthodox methods aren't convenient for the tow.
What about the front drive shaft? God bless
Congratulations Ethan Pratt for completing the rotator school by Miller industries
I'm not sure which video editing software you use, but you may be able to use an equalizer or hi-pass filter to reduce the wind noise in the audio. Since Ethan is a musician, he probably has a friend who could show you how that works. 😃
I love watching your channel but I was wondering where is Talon I miss seeing him
I love the dashcam view on the drive there and back.
U can do it Ron I've seen u in worse situations than that I have faith in u that u'll be able 2 make it work
Another great video.
Dis connecting from anything is always faster than hooking to it. Hooking uo requires get things lined up and figuring out where to hook.
Enjoying very much and learning a lot from your videos Ron thank you very much for sharing but I must say you're going to have to keep your fingers out of them bad places because it's got to be tough working with one hand and one finger being bad😂
