I have admired the beauty of truman capote's prose for many years and have found his personal story amazing. I've read A Christmas Memory many times and watched the film almost as much. I had heard about this one, but had never watched it until today and i love it. I was raised up like this and can relate to it. Beautiful story.
Again my thanks and best wishes to all who have the good sense to watch this and A Christmas Memory and appreciate them for the treasures that they are. Thank you thank you!!!
This is a great story of an 8 year old boy that has been bullied by a needy kid at school, and shoved into a complicated family away from his own parents. He is befriended by an aunt that understands that 8-year-olds need help in seeing situations clearly. And, she has the patience to love and accept him as he is. He learns from her, and we all can through this lovely little film and short story. Let yourself remember that when feelings overwhelm you, you still need to care for others, and be grateful for those who care for you. Thanks for oploading this!
What I want express before I went on that necessary tirade is Truman Capote has spun a quiet, simple, and thought-provoking piece of magic! A gentle story full of joyous beauty! Another mercurial performance by Geraldine Page but the cast is perfect. This classic short film, along with A Christmas Memory, should be a staple in all households any time of year but especially during the holiday season for further impact!!! R.I.P. MISS SOOK! I LOVE GERALDINE PAGE!!!
i didn't know this story had been filmed! A Christmas Memory has always been a favorite, and i was glad when GP was chosen for the part. She is superb in this short-story-turned-movie, as well! Thank you for posting it.
Thank you very much for posting "The Thanksgiving Visitor" in it's entirety. This is the first time I've watched the whole show since it originally aired. It's Thanksgiving Day" and this was a great treat for me.

Sook had the mind of a child, she gave him the wrong advice. She should have taught him how to beat the crap out of the bully. I would never have gone to table with him. Who was cruel deliberately but that bully?
His cousin was wrong. Deliberately being cruel is not the unpardonable sin. A person can repent from that and become a "new" person. Maybe that's one of the hangups he had in life because he believed her. She had the right motivation, just the wrong idea.
I honestly found this story both boring and obnoxious. Every time life gets even remotely difficult this little ass just curls up into a ball and dies and then this sweet old lady comes and solves all his problems for him. What's the uptake? The boy learns nothing, the narrator dismisses her right off as a kind of benign kook so surely we aren't expected to emulate her charity. The point seems to be that there is no point. ZzZzZzZz
Everyone needs a cousin Sook in their childhood. She gave Buddy the kindness, patience and love that only a mother would.
Unfortunately he didn’t retain the lesson and went on to write the story that scandalized NY society, and caused a woman to unalive herself
The Roll has been called up yonder for that wonderful old lady. God bless the hands who made so many banana puddings for little boys over the years.
Thank you for another wonderful Truman Capote memory!
Just love this. My Mother was from South Alabama and had that beautiful accent and manners.

I had no idea this existed. Christmas memory is the only one I knew. Wow

This is the first time I have seen this movie, in many years . Thanks for posting it; and a Happy Thanksgiving, too !
Awesome, thank you so much. I know you've been thanked already, but you deserve yet one more for this.
Those were the good old days.
My pleasure, Jabe88.
Yeah, "Christmas Memory" is far & away my favorite of the two. I wonder why they didn't have Donnie Melvin play Buddy again?
Possibly his age - he was already 4 years too old to play Buddy in 'A Christmas Memory' of 1966.

Finally, someone sees it too hell that always pissed me off.
Sorry for the negative opinion, but anyone who hasn't read the story needs to know that this production completely butchered the ending.
Kind of sad that Truman grew up to deliberately humiliate his friends (Answered Prayers).
the most interesting thing about this movie is that old lady's banana pudding.
And that's what you took away from it?

And hell no, we are not related, THANK F**KING GOD! LOL

No. Obviously you learned nothing.
Oh Austonauts, don't be such a bore!
@@MrWadsox what'd you learn that I'm missing?
