Sorry about the boost related gremlins. The aero and overall setup is definitely working. The car's front-end (And overall) grip is astonishing... Your ability to turn-in so early and the car just tracing a nice smooth arc is something else. My NASA Time Trials modded 2000 GT has sort of supernatural grip for a streetable / no aero older Mustang but it's nothing compared to your monster!
It's easy to check for leaks if you have somebody revving your car to get a little boost going while you listen in the engine bay, use your hands and sometimes soap around the cold piping. Usually you can feel it with just your hands if its that big
Did that. Was only coming from the blow off valve.
you are in thunder... they usually get 3 laps before some major flags come out. I meant to come by and say hi... but we were distracted all saturday. thanks for all the videos and knowledge... my new car doesnt have much off the shelf for it so i'll be doing a lot of DIY aero with your input!
Love the videos man. Been running an s197 mustang in California for about 4 years now learning the ropes. Doing some local time trails events. Looking to get with nasa and work on getting my competition license to run st2/3 or maybe AI? Not sure if AI is big in CA. Seems like an east coast thing. But yeah your videos excite me to keep pushing forward on my journey!
Ran good AJ!!! Run those suckers down for the double u !!! W
I've seen a few turbo race cars that duct air directly at the CHRA. A few that I've asked basically said they were doing it because they saw others doing it or that it "should" help
I do have vents cut in the cowel just above the turbos.
on that lap that you were slow down, you were deff faster and more confident with the car, even with not full grip on the tires ( i read that i was first lap, so second is always the best and depending on the tire sometimes it is the third
did you break in the tires or just went the first cycle on the first run that you show us?
apart from the big grip of the tires, you can hear the car jumping much faster and controlled than before, same suspension setup than before, so the aero it is giving the control it needs
on the driving side, i recommend you to play much more with the accelerator, you have a good turn base and driving line, but you are slow with the accelerator and also need to play much more and with it, specially now you have the grip of the tire/aero combination ( probably you will need to lift the car or strenght the spring rate)
on the mechanic side, yes it impress me with ford the amount of time and abuse you give to the engine and still on oem parts, but i recommend you to start thinking taking the engine out and seal better all the problems you are bothered and also the new experience you have gather, since you use more data gathering tools/sensors, part of the sensor you need to improve it is the boost solenoid, oem ford is ok, but you need aftermarket for all that tempature you are enclosing, dont waste money on aluminium/gold tape, they dont work as good as a shielding and insulationg fiber wrap on the downpipes
if you take the engine out, put new lambda sensor, sparks, regasket, check/change seals and new clutch, it is hard but if the car was ok for 6 years already and problems start to happend, it is better now you take them all now and the car will easily last 6 more of racing before a rebuild and maybe more boost and get to a faster category
amazing work and seeing your vids always keeps me motivated to keep on going even with problems hapening, hope you can invest the time and money for what i recommend, you can improve much more with the confident you need and part of that it is being mechanical sure of what the car can and cant do and how it is taking al the abuse, it helps to build a lot of confident having new things, even if they arent super expensive and they are stock ones
take care and thank you
Considering you added flat floor my guess is that something melted due to massive changes in (absence of) airflow trough engine bay...
Because... Well, it worked trough practice and half of the race, right?
A possibility for sure.
AJ, have you ever overlaid data onto your videos? I'd love to see some of the data from your sessions. G forces, etc...
Yeah I have a smarty cam but usually don't use that footage for on here.
I was thinking about that. Just the track map would be sweet
@@ajhartmanaero I'd love to see the G Meter. Curious what you're sustaining with hoosiers and all that Aero
Have you checked wastegate functionality
How big is your power steering cooler? Curious why it’s over heating even with a cooler.
Being so close to another car just not enough air flow. Just like a radiator.
Damn, that "blows" on the race! hahaha......sorry
What ended up being the boost leak issue?
Blew out one of the couplers and where it split was just where I couldn’t see it or feel it without taking a bunch of shit apart. So needless to say, I now have a spare or two of every coupler on the car.
@@ajhartmanaero that’s what I figured it had to be. I always have issues with my hotside coupler coming off turbo as well on my Focus RS.
@@RacingPaint it didn’t slip off. It literally split a hole through it. They have seen 6 seasons of racing now.
@@ajhartmanaero that’s fantastic really.
What about a de-tuned Coyote swap?
Been done to many times. Wanted something unique.
Fair enough, i just figured it would give you adjustable power and no turbo problems.
@@r000tbeer it’s not like a coyote is issue free. Maybe a little less to go wrong but I know they are known for some issues as well.
What issues come to your mind?
I believe brittle oil pump gears in gen 1 coyotes was an issue
U need more power
