    Along with Stairway and Achilles, this is the last of what I call their "epics". It is wonderfully almost cinematic in scope. The sounds you heard might be a combination of a mellotron played by bassist John Paul Jones and the stings and horn session musicians they brought in. At the time this was written, none of them had been to Kashmir, but instead, singer Robert Plant based the lyrics off a trip he took driving through the deserts of Morocco. Yes, back in the day, 3 hour concerts were not unheard of. Don't worry about apologizing for a "long" reaction - it's Led Zeppelin and fans know what's up. Continue to have an open ear and mind when listening to their (or any) music and you might surprise yourself with what you end up enjoying. Maybe try looking through their catalogue and pick a song at random, see what title speaks to you or jumps out and try it. Believe me, Zep fans will be here for it.

    'That instrument' might be a Mellotron, in its original form, an early form of analog sampler. Now they are digital, but still used. Most of the orchestral sounds in Zep studio songs are from actual orchestra instruments, although they used one on tour (when it worked). In Kashmir, JPJ used both.

  • @Calumetto
    @Calumetto 2 года назад +1

    I think they achieved that weird sound quality by playing notes in reverse order on the Hammond (without eggs) organ, and then reversing the recording. That makes the fade that normally is behind the note trail into it -- making it sound strange. Either that, or they just broke the points off Salvador Dali's 'stache and played the organ with them like chopsticks. That would also have worked.

  • @eugenestandingbear6516

    If you like psychedelic, please react to: *Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother (Live in Chicago).*
    Jimmy Page (guitarist) and Robert Plant (singer) of Led Zeppelin are massive Jeff Buckley fans. Page said that Jeff was “the greatest singer to appear in two decades” (between the ‘70s and ‘90s), and Plant said that Jeff was a “much greater singer” than him. Brad Pitt also said this about Jeff: “He’s Page and Plant in one, on a technical level; it’s mind-blowing.”
    Coincidentally, Jeff’s favourite band and biggest musical influence was Led Zeppelin. The first record that he ever owned was Physical Graffiti, on which Kashmir was originally released in 1975. On the night that Jeff passed (accidental drowning), he was swimming in Memphis’ Wolf River (a tributary of the Mississippi), and singing along to the opening track on Led Zeppelin II, Whole Lotta Love, which was playing on his friend’s stereo, on the shore.
    Suddenly, a barge passed by Jeff, who was swimming in the near darkness, which caused his friend to kneel down and pull his stereo away from the lapping waves caused by the boat, resulting in him taking his eyes off Jeff, for a moment. When he looked back to the water, Jeff had disappeared. His body washed ashore, down river, six days later, entangled in branches, and lying at the foot of the famed Beale Street (home of the blues).

      @@SalvoG Thats really hard to say. The Song Remains the Same 1976 concert film (recorded over 3 shows at MSG in 1973) is the most well-known one and shows the band at the height of their Rock God success. Royal Albert Hall 1970 from the Led Zeppelin DVD is my personal favorite. It is one year into their career (two albums) and is the only complete one-night concert that I know of. However only has material from the first two albums obviously, so is missing a good chunk of their best material. The Danmarks Radio live promo is interesting because it shows them right at the beginning before they were famous. Earls Court 1975 has some songs from their acoustic set they did in the middle of their show plus In My Time of Dying and Trampled Under Foot. Knebworth 1979 is at the end of their career, includes songs like Achilles Last Stand, Kashmir, Nobody's Fault but Mine, In the Evening, and Sick Again. The 2007 Celebration Day Tribute Concert naturally has the best sound quality (and most modern sound) and features Jason Bonham replacing his father John Bonham on drums.

    Do some live from Madison Square Garden. Dazed and Confused is only 28 minutes in that one, there's other versions that go as long as 42 minutes.
