Miniature moss garden - zen garden (self-watering)

  • Here is another table top miniature moss garden design set up with a wick so that the moss always stays watered.
    I have wanted to make a sort of “island“ design for quite some time. I considered using actual water and having the wick pull from that but realized it would evaporate much too quickly. So I decided to go with the zen style pebble garden to represent the water.
    I feel like the pebbles I chose are a bit too large and throw off the scale a bit but they were the best I could get from a river close to me. I think I might change to sand from the river but I will have to go collect it. I had the pebbles from another project.
    The piece of wood, if you are interested, is from a dead Rose Mary bush that we found while on a hike in the mountains in Spain. My wife uses a lot of natural material in her art as well and so we are both alway looking out for interesting things in nature. (Check her out ‪@irene_bittner‬ )
    The wicks are made from felt strips and the box is made from pine. If you have any questions just ask. 🙂

      This is a strip of felt being used for the wick. It has been working very well to keep the moss alive without needing to be top-watered.

      매우 감사합니다! 이 디자인을 사용하면 이끼에 위에서 물을 줄 필요가 없습니다. 자동 급수 디자인을 사용하고 싶지 않은 경우 상단에서 물을 줄 수 있습니다. 이끼가 살아 있으니 물을 주어야 합니다.

      @@MujoNatureArt How did you make the rock structure?

    • @MujoNatureArt
      @MujoNatureArt  Год назад +2

      @@SpecialSP I failed to show that part. I had made the formation a few months earlier when I had some extra cement mixed for another project. All I did was selected some small rocks that I wanted to use and then put them together with cement.
      Cement with a bit of sand and rocks stuck in it. Very easy. Then just make a hole in the cement before it dries completely wherever you want a wick.

    This is absolutely gorgeous! ❤ What came into my mind, while watching: Do you have any issues with fungus or rotting, as your beautiful trays are made of wood? Thanks for sharing 🙏 Cheers, Martina 🙋‍♀️

    • @MujoNatureArt
      @MujoNatureArt  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much Martina! Nice to see you back again. The first ever box I made I left the wood unfinished and on the underside of the box and under the rock structure I did get molding.
      The next one I did I put a thin layer of silicone on the bottom of the rock structure to stop that as well as siliconed the hole passing through the box because the wick was touching the hole. This worked better but still not perfect.
      This time, because of the design, I decide to paint everything including the inside of the box. I would guess the wood will no longer get wet but I am not sure about eventual mold development. If anything it should be much easier to clean with this design.
      Hope that answers your question. Thanks again!
