Going to the end of the season, who on the current roster do you bench to make room for Kane? I dont know that the oilers have the right "scoring" expendable person to trade off for that elusive defenseman the Oilers need. Maybe if some of them have a hot streak in February before the trade deadline or its a trade to a former team who know what they are getting and can motivate more then there could be some value. Between the trade deadline and the end of the season they could being up Savoie to give him a look but on 4th line minutes its hard to really shine.
fwiw, j-dick has one more additional year on his contract after this season, r.donato will be a ufa after this season. c.murphy would be a nice fit w/ the oilers (he does have a 10 team mntc). the hawks got a 1st and a 2nd rd. package from toronto for j.mccabe (50% retained) and s.lafferty. a similar type of package just might get a deal done for c.murphy (w/ 50% retention) and r.donato imo.
God I really hope Connor Murphy isn't their target. Emberson is a clearly better player and performs his role at a fraction of the cost and Murphy isn't even much of a difference over Stetcher other than being larger lol. Need to aim higher and get creative. If Murphy is the best you can get, you are better off spending on a higher end forward upgrade.
Rickard Rakell at $5AAV for Jeff Skinner and Matthew Savoie. Win now mode. Still need more money to equal cap hit. Marcus Pettersson at 50% retained for Jeff Skinner and Sam O'Reilly.
So much hate for Edmonton's D and goaltending. If the oil want to get better, talk better players than what they already have. Murphy ain't it. Gibson ain't it. A huge deal with a team that might sell would be getting Soros and O'Reilly out of Nashville. You get a proven goalie and one of the best 2 way forwards in the league that is always one of the league's best at takeaways.

Kane will take Skinners spot. I see Some big lines come playoffs. Skinner will be moved to another playoff team

Pretty nice having Savoie baking away in the minors 🍞. Cheap talent on the way or a very decent chip 🍟 in a trade.
His numbers are inflated due to 10 points in 10 games, from what I’ve seen he’s nothing special
Anyone over 32 years old should be automatically crossed out, unless their name is Sidney Crosby lol

@@RustyHinges29 Jeff Skinner has a NMC. lol. On a 1 year deal.

Skinner, Ryan and 2nd rounder for Murphy and Dickinson.
Nothing retained by Chicago ?
Hawks would never go for that and retain.
@@aronbrown9411 Not unless Edmonton gave them a first round pick.
I think the Oilers keep Ryan.
You have to stop buying the chocolate bars from the new place around the corner
