      I agree about the red. Being strawberry blonde to brown is what was given to Taylor bc you typically get what is most flattering. I understand wanting to be darker and not having that color but the same undertones are the most flattering imo

    Former hairstylist here (and brunette who’s had every hair color)
    2 things : brown hair will always have red. No matter what you use. Red tone “lives” at brown.
    The more ash you tone it, the more dark it will look.
    All artificially colored hair will fade warm, it’s in the nature of hair color
    The stylist did a great job and I see a pretty big difference. General people will not because they don’t have a trained eye (people think anything from a level 5 down is black lol)
    It looks much softer on your skin. I like my hair all one solid color as well. Your hair will lighten up more and look more noticeable as it fades

      I’m a former stylist and was thinking the same things. I’ve watched Taylor forever and I know black is her signature hair color. I love that and I used to do the same. But as I’ve aged I prefer some warmth in my hair. I’d really love to see her as a redhead, or even just a softer warm brunette with dimension, but I don’t think she’ll ever do it.

      Yea the only person with a “brown” hair that didnt look kind for reddish was a youtuber who had a lot of green put into her hair so it was more of a khaki brown but that didnt last very long at all. Yep looked her up again and it lasted 2 videos before starting to look a bit more red brown.

    Love the new hair color! You can definitely tell the difference! Black hair looks matte and dry and you have so much more light and movement now, it looks so much healthier and more natural. I love brown hair and you can play with deviations of tones and shades (I like to do dark brown, medium brown, chocolate)

      Try henna! I used hair quality pure henna on my deep brown/black hair for years. It was very subtle but it had some red highlights when in direct sunlight. It builds with each use as well. It WILL change how chemical dyes interact with your hair, so keep that in mind. If you go to a salon for hair dye, mention you have henna in it.

    Your hair looks absolutely stunning!!! So shiny and healthy. I do think people won't notice right away. They will just notice how great and healthy your hair looks. And, your makeup will look softer against this warmer color than the deep black. My hair also pulls red, so I understand that the fight is REAL!! Happy Holidays!!!🖤🖤🖤 New Years words, being gratitude and contentment (as my health has caused me to simplify everything.)
    The reality is, if one has food, a place to call home and are safe, you are better off than millions of people in the world. Instead of trying to live a "Pinterest" life where the goal is over the top perfection in everything, I will live a simple life with much lower expectations.

    I worked for L'Oreal managing one of their Salon Professional Distributor Stores for a few years and learned SO MUCH about hair... So, here are my tips. 1- never use black box dye, its extremely difficult to remove which is why most stylist either won't (or secretly hate you haha). And then the maintenance part is even harder because of what the box dye has done to your hair structure. If you dye your hair on your own at the very least go to Sally and get developer and the best quality bottle of dye you can 2. You can "make your own" color depositing mask by using your favorite hair mask (I love the Amika ones - either Soulfood or The Kure) and then get a SEMI-permanent dye (brands like pulp riot, pravana has some, etc.) and mix it yourself in a little container. It's customized to your needs for YOUR hair while not compromising your hair structure. And because it's a mask, it's the last step - not the shampoo in which you're just going to end up washing twice. So it works much better and is more customizable. 3. use sulfate free shampoo & conditioner because it does not strip the hair color and regardless if they say they are color safe, if it's sulfate free - it is color safe. Again Amika makes great ones, as does Pureology (and a little Pureology goes a VERY long way.) Both brands have a line of purple shampoo and Amika also has a purple mask which will help remove brassiness while conditioning your hair. 4. The things like those IGK mix drops can truly be put into anything! Shampoo, conditioner, oil, etc. any cream or oil based product you put in your hair it should work with. So, if you "miss a spot" with your purple/blue/green toning shampoos you can just use the mix drops or whatever brand you get and put them in the oil you're gonna put in your hair anyway, it's a great in the moment fix. 5. If you can, use the salon professional stuff. If your stylist gets to really know and understand your hair, and suggests something - use it. It will maintain the longevity of your style. Sometimes the "dupe" or next best thing isn't really better just to save a few bucks that in the long run you'll end up having to just spend more to maintain your style anyway. If you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars on your hair, why not buy the products your stylist is suggesting. They won't suggest you something that won't work because their business is built on trust and loyalty. At least I am going to say that is likely for about 95% of stylists, they aren't just trying to sell you something they know won't work because then isn't doing anyone any favors, including themself.

      If you compare ingredients lists, expensive "salon" products have the same ingredients and formulations as drugstore products. I'm sorry, but expensive hair products are completely unnecessary.
      And please keep in mind that stylists are probably getting a commission for selling salon products. In fact, they may have a quota they have to sell. So take their recommendations with a grain of salt.

    • @EmilyKaplan
      @EmilyKaplan 9 месяцев назад

      There are definitely ones with better ingredients now than before, that is for sure. But a lot of the drug store stuff is not good for your hair even if it claims to be. OGX is a huge example of that. But not all salon stuff can work for you either! I think more of my point was to get their suggestion on what to use, they may even have some drug store options for you to consider if you don’t want to go with what they suggest for you in salon. So, maybe I could have worded that better

    • @GrapeApe66
      @GrapeApe66 9 месяцев назад

      Very good advice about the boxed dye👍 also pulling the boxed dye through your whole head will result in that chalky old lady look that has little dimension. If you can just retouch the regrowth and don’t put on all of the hair is very important to keep hair healthy and stylist will use reskin shades gloss to tone and do fade and it can be beautiful with an experienced stylist can work miracles and it really is an art.

      I too worked for Loreal at the Stylist facing stores. Thank you for sharing, but I'll be honest I despise the IGK drops. They never did enough at the various stages of lightened blonde I have been. My hair has been everything from level 7 to 10+, I prefer the color depositing masks 100% of the time. In my experience most stylists Dread selling retail (anything they sell as objects in the salon), they would rather not but maintenance of color and hair health makes a huge impact on the ease of their job. Super basic shampoo and conditioner from the salon for "basic" hair needs isn't worth it in my experience, but the products designed to actually repair the hair are. You can pry the Redken ABC system from my cold dead hands before I start using other product for my fashion color hair!

    • @20thcenturyrelic
      @20thcenturyrelic 9 месяцев назад

      @@lelalu101 Suit yourself, but you're spending more than you need to. Hair products at all price levels have similar ingredients and formulations. Also, keep in mind that hair is dead and can't actually be "repaired." You can make it look better with products, but when you stop using the products, it will go back to the condition it was in before.

    I did the same a couple years ago! I notice the difference FOR SURE!
    Something worth thinking about (from a natural red head with 14 years hairstyling experience) is a blue based toner instead of the typical ash. If you’re seeing a lot of red or red-orange, then a blue base toner can pull you toward a cool toned brown without making it “muddy”.

    Hey! Hairstylist here 20 years. When you bleach hair to get rid of red you need to bleach past red to yellow stage or you will always be fighting the red. Once you bleach past red to yellow its sooooo easy to stay at the tone you want to be at. I have naturally strawberry blonde hair too and I am a level 4 so I know you pain.

    • @kristinj6298
      @kristinj6298 9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for that tip! I have done a bleach bath several times to lift out permanent color and try again. But I still, no matter how NA or AA I use (level 6) it still shows red in the light. I've tried demi and perm. Basically every product I can get at Sally's. I guess I need to go lighter to go just my normal ash brown.

    I am a hairstylist and your stylist did a great job! Be very careful with overtone at home. It does not come out of the hair and will make it difficult to go lighter in the future even with salon products. The wella color deposit is great but don’t use it to much. It’ll build up and make your hair darker long term. I would stick to a tone that will cancel the red. Green or blue instead of depositing cool brown❤
    Future appointments with your stylist are your best bet for keeping the red controlled.
    Love your channel!

    Love the new color! As someone born with dark brown hair, almost no red - a “brownette” my mom called me, I hear you on not wanting red highlights. When I had to start coloring it, I was a 4NN. I never wanted highlights, a lighter color, etc. I loved my dark brown hair. I turned white/grey pretty young, so during Covid, rather than going lighter, I just grew it out and embraced the gray. I still miss being a brownette everyday. Going grey has thrown off my makeup and clothing choices and I hate how you makeup shows in the hair around my face. I agree with you 100% that it makes getting dressed easier because almost everything looks good with it.
    Good luck with the next step, Happy Holidays, see you next year 😀

    Omg will you please do a trip to Korea and get your colors done?? And you could get a Korean makeover. And Korean scalp treatment. And Korean facial. It would be amazing!! Omg, also go to the spas and get Korean massage, and acupuncture for your neck!!
    I went to Korea for 9 days last year, and I’m saving up my money to go back. I loved it. They are so nice, and so hygienic (like, Seoul is a GIANT city, but it is so clean!), and the food is sooooo good!!

    Your hair looks beautiful! Love that it’s a subtle change but high impact :) really looks good on you. And that’s amazing they didn’t have to bleach it! My word for 2024 is more of a short phrase “be present.” It’s so easy to focus on the past, “the good old days” - or focus on the future, wishing for something or “I’ll be happy when…” But to try be present, there is so much we can enjoy in the moment and think about what we can give to that moment/hour/day to make it a good one :)

    I can tell the difference. I've been watching your videos for years, since the silver hair trial days. I think I discovered you mid silver process, actually. I am so used to the solid black that this does look very different, it's subtle objectively, but I get why you're staring at it, it's a big jump. Your whole coloring reads differently too, softer, like you said, because you took down that contrast. But what are you using for your roots now?

    Giiirl if I tell you xD I had a black color for the last 2 years, but this summer I wanted to get some dark blue ombre...I did it myself..took me more than a month with the whole process...and then after only a month of having it...I went back to black only again xD

    I like the new color, I actually noticed it in your recent story! 👀 Maybe try to embrace the warm tones if possible. I have natural black hair and I’m pretty sure most natural black/dark hair has a warm undertone, a cool undertone is not as common I think. It looks natural and pretty! 😍

    Hoping you'll see this! I use that exact color depositing mask from wella alongside the igk blue drops. And I use a lot of drops, definitely more than the recommended amount, mixed in and leave it for 20 minutes before rinsing with COLD water. I use it 3-4 times a week. Then afterwards, (because on the bottle it describes using them in a leave in product) I actually put a few drops, sometimes just 1 even, into whatever leave in conditioner or heat protection product I'm using for the day. I definitely can see the difference when I keep up with it. My hair naturally is the same as what you're describing yours as a kid. I've always kept my hair dark dark brunette, in my opinion it looks the best on me. It tends to fade quickly though, and always pulls so so warm- red/orange. Darker hair also makes me blue eyes pop and stand out so much brighter, and my skintone is also extremely similar to yours. (Fair/light-ish lol)
    Walmart also has a newer haircare line that has color depositing products. It's cheaper than anything else similar I've found at Sally's. So far, it seems to be doing the exact same thing- possibly even making my hair feel and look a lot smoother/softer. Pretty much at half the price, as well. ❤😊
    All my love,
    -Candi

    Hairstylist here! And someone who’s done a lot of black color corrections
    So it looks like the “color remover” she used was actually a bleach based hair remover in that it’ll lift the hair because it’s mixed with developer. I actually think you would have been better off using an actual color remover( molecule shrinking )then going in with the bleach.
    Just remember at levels 1-around 6 the underlying pigments that will show is red . In order to get that pure ashy/cool brown look you have to lift to at least a level 7. Hope that helps :)
    Regardless your hair looks amazing she did a great job
