Since he seems intent on highlighting the differences, here are two close points: The 90 setting on the MXR 95 (5:47) and original MXR 90 (6:16). He's totally correct, of course, that a two-phase shifter (MXR 45 setting) sounds completely different from a four-phase shifter (MXR 90 and MXR 95 on 90 setting).
Thank you for showing me that awesome Albert King tone technique. It really worked great with the overdrive. I will be using that a lot from now on. I own a Phase 95 and I really love it. I also own a Mobius which had a great phaser with lots of capabilities but I stick with the Phase 95 just because I love the tone and it’s simplicity of use.
I love the growl and roar of the block 90, thro my Marshall it just rips. Had the EVH 90 for a while, but the script mode was so subtle you could barely hear it and my EVH 90 made my dry sound real bad too when it was by passed . Got the block 90 now, and that’s my sound.
Some pay out lots of money to get some fancy designer brand phaser then they spend ages trying to dial it in to sound like an MXR Phase 90. Then they will say ‘ it can get that classic phaser sound’.
I am planning to get a Phase 95 to alternate with my '74 replica script 45. Not a big rush, I got a couple free PH-1s in the boxes when I bought my SP-1s, so I have some coverage. I only have about three channels I can mess my phase about in now. More speakers coming. ;)
The Phase 95 is essentially 4 phasers in one, in a tiny footprint, and will cost you less $$. For most people, this is the one to own. Otherwise, you'll have to buy 3 or more new and used MXR phasers and try them all out in your personal rig. I'm way too lazy for that. Great demo!
Dig the subtle quality of the Phase 45 side of the 95. Like Fuzz, modulation effects are all a little bit different? Trying figure out if I want to get a Phaser, or Harmonic tremelo?
Do any of you have a problem with volume drop on phase 95? I mean like 70 % volume drop a few times in a year. I love the 95 but it is very problematic, i keep opening it up and scrathing the insides to get the volume back up. Sometimes it last 6 months and sometimes a day. I have it after the tuner and before wah and drives...
Excellent job. I have a Block logo and a Phase 100, both of which are very good! The 90 is modded to sound like a script: a little warmer and less pronounced.
The Phase 100 has a variety of different phase effects, if you aren't sure what you are looking for. Maybe somebody has some sort of Phaser shoot-out up on their RUclips page that will help. I was pretty happy with my '74 Script re-issue Phase 45, but I decided to run some weird experiments and piled up a few extras. There's a few pages up if you search "MXR Phaser shoot-out", this fellow did every single one that was on my query list: ruclips.net/video/AZdXL_ZAFaE/видео.html Your search may vary, Google knew that was the one I wanted. :)
Although the Phase 95 indeed has far more shapeable options, it doesn't beat the chewy swirl of a good old block logo Phase 90. I'd rather have a pedal that can get me one sound I really love, than a pedal that can do 3-4 sounds about 75% of the way to my satisifaction.
@@BuddaGuedes I've always found the 95 to be missing the warmth and thickness of the Phase 90. That being said I've heard 95s in concert and they sound amazing all the same. Glad you found a pedal that works for you.
They both work really great. For that Albert King tone or to use with the Fender Rhodes, the Phase 90 has a special thing. The 95 is a little warmer to my taste.
For phasing I have four amps feeding an open-backed 4x12, only three have the PH-1s on them right now because I ran short of Lehle Splitters for my other channels. Two dry amps still waiting, one feeding the big echo, and two more vibrato channels. I do have a treble boost and fuzz face on one dry channel but once you pass three channels, overdrive is pointless. :) Phase is touchy, less is more. (says the nut who forgot to mention the two Little Labs IBPs that are also in there.) There might be a pedal that does all this, if you are a real musician. :)
Hear Incubus early albums, like Science (song Vitamin ruclips.net/video/Jbzw3UVzEVA/видео.html&ab_channel=NickFitzgerald), that is the Ph-2. It can also do a more normal phase, but it's not as nice to my ears as the mxr or small stone, but still a cool pedal!
Does the Phase 95 store the settings between power down and power up? If you have favourite settings (say Phase 45/Script), it could be annoying if it looses the settings on power down.
I hear it!! the original has a deeper sound to it!! I know its RUclips but you can hear a nice phase sound going on more in the mid/lows with the phase 90
Stay away from catalinbread many worlds phaser! At all costs! $199 + tax I live in deep regret for not getting a mxr 90 or 95 DEEPEST DARKEST REGRET! Hear my warning all musicians! Don’t be fooled by all the by all the fancy settings and options it’s useless keep it simple get a 90 maybe a 95 but probably a 90
Thanks buddy you’ve just answered my questions as to which one I wanted/needed. Thanks again and have a blessed life!
Excellent comparison video. Thank you.
Thanks

Yeah the phase 95 is my favorite phase pedal for sure
This is the best way to use phasers. Slow speed gives the best sound from phasers.
Very nice video !!!
Thanks a lot

Thanks man

Thanks a lot! I really love that phase
I came seeking answers on which MXR phaser is the right one for me. I subscribed for the shirt!
Yeah. Thanks

Both really good but a little different

👌
Is there any difference between the original block 90 and the 95 on block and 90 setting? Thanks
It might, but I didn’t compared it
Great video ! What is that guitar? Looks really nice
Just planing to buy my first phase. Witch one do you recommend? The 90... the 90 script or the 95?
I love the 95

Thanks a lot for your help and support!
Damn! Did Albert use a phaser? I did not know. Something I was thinking about recently, that Gilmour got a lot from A King.
He used it from an amp that had it
The 90s version is such a good sound
I like it a lot

I agree with you but I prefer the 95

Wow!! That’s a very interesting setup!!
Holy shit
Phase 95 is an amazing pedal!
I’m loving it
Hello Budda. Have you tried the Ph-2 10 stages phaser? how do you compare to the phase 95?
Is very different. I like the power 95 more

What is the instrument of the intro?
Which one for 70's funk disco, porn music?
That’s a wah wah
@@BuddaGuedes 😅
Or Talk-box 😂
Budda, are you sure your 90 isn't modded? It's strangely less pronounced than others 🤔
Not modded at all. Unfortunately it died recently. Som maybe it was wrong in the video
@@BuddaGuedes rip :(
Like my dad always said, if you can't trust a man in a Hawaiian shirt with handle bar mustache, who can you trust? Great demo, thanks!
Ehh Eh!
I think your Phase 90 is a Script model. The first ones came with block writings.
It’s now broken unfortunately
big one is much warmer
Alone maybe but into a mix i think the 95 is the best option .
I love it too
Does the Phase 95 store the settings between power down and power up? If you have favourite settings (say Phase 45/Script), it could be annoying if it looses the settings on power down.
Yes it does because those are push buttons
@@BuddaGuedes Thanks, that's good news. I could not see from various videos whether they latched in position. I enjoy your reviews/demos 👍.
can't believe they discontinued the phase 99 for that weak 95
I love the 95
I hear it!! the original has a deeper sound to it!! I know its RUclips but you can hear a nice phase sound going on more in the mid/lows with the phase 90
I find the phase 90 more midrangy and great for that Albert King tones
They choose a path where no one goes...
What do you mean?!
Did I hear No Qaurter?
Of course
