- What is the Creator Economy? There is a $100 Billion creator economy and influencer economy of businesses powering RUclipsrs and RUclips businesses, TikTokers and TikTok businesses, Twitch streamers, Instagrammers and Instagram businesses, and more. As an ex RUclips employee responsible for monetization strategy and helping creators earn more money, I cover the rise of influencers over traditional media, the rise of influencer marketing, and the new era of influencers and creators as businesses and entrepreneurs.
More than 50 million people around the world now consider themselves creators on platforms like RUclips, Instagram, Snap, Twitch, and TikTok. Surveys show being an influencer is the #1 most desired job for GenZ; Kids would rather be a RUclips star than anything else these days. In this video we’re going to explore the $100 billion creator economy and influencer economy industry you didn’t know existing behind your favorite RUclipsrs and social media stars - including Patreon, Cameo, and other creator monetization options.
An enormous creator economic engine has emerged, empowering content creators, curators, community builders, influencers, bloggers, and videographers of all sorts, to grow and make money.

Mr Beast Burger and his creator financing startup Juice is the latest in creators acting as entrepreneurs, following in the footsteps of Michelle Phan and Ipsy. What creators do you follow doing exciting things on the business side?
There were a couple of 3D generated influencers and even artists that's been getting some massive sponsorships and collaborations with/from big brands, but I have yet to see a startup who successfully executed this model. Imagine being a startup agency with endless inventory of perfect influencers that you can easily match with brands. If anyone can create such startup, they will be providing the biggest artificial influencers/artists in the metaverse world later. And from there, imagine the endless possibilities.
@@jom9810 It's a cool idea that's yet to be borne out. Brud was funded by Sequoia but bought for a small sum, I believe because the economics did not play out this vision (I think it was even more expensive to create content). Maybe we are just early on the tech cost curve!
Well-said, Wayne! Thank you for the great video breaking down the history of creators. Excited to see what happens next.
Thank you Kai!!
Lovely lovely video! Creators are the new celebrities indeed.
Thanks so much Victoria!!
Spectacular video quality. Kudos.
Thanks so much Girish!
Amazing deep dive! Thanks for doing these type of content
Thanks Joshua!!
Why this RUclips so Underrated?
Appreciate that :) Working on some new stuff testing out some new concepts!
Absolutely loved this video. Extremely well-said on the "next frontier of the creator economy".
Thank you Arda!!
Great video helpful perspective Wayne.
Thanks for the note Jay! Glad it was helpful!
Amazing info as usual Wayne 😍
Really appreciate that! :)
This is a great video. I'm building in this space as a creator :)
Thank so much Parker!! Good luck :)
Great video! Do you think the majority of DTC brands and sellers will gradually move from MCN to self-serving tools like Grin for their influencer marketing?
Thanks Yuan! Good question, I agree most brands will transition from agencies and discovery platforms to CRMs once they already have an influencer marketing function and set of relationships already set up. Grin is doing well, and I’m a fan of the founder Brandon!
Hi Wayne - what's the best way to estimate how many content creators we will have in the next 3 - 5 years? Really curious to know how large the competition is! Thanks.
There's roughly 2 million professional creators today per our report here: signalfire.com/blog/creator-economy/ Growing about 50-65% every year, so maybe 7M or so in 3 years if it keeps at the current rate!
@@nogatekeepers Wow, this is brilliant stuff. What's the 50-65% based on?
@@faziz28 Triangulating a few different ways: 1) growth in # of channels with > 100k and 1M followers, 2) Patreon publicly stated that they were seeing donation growth about 65%, 3) a bit of personal experience in this industry
what are you thoughts on tech and ai disrupting and automating industries?
Definitely believe that is happening, even in industries that have traditionally been laggards in tech adoption - such as healthcare, government, real estate, industrials. For example, the pandemic has pulled forward the healthcare industry 20 years into the future through telemedecine, which grew 50-100x overnight for many hospitals
Wayne - how does one get in touch with you guys about an opportunity?
startups@signalfire.com!
1000 per million views TOTAL, or per million on a single video?
Hmm not sure I understand the question, but $1000 per million views on one video is not unusual
A worth watching and Subbing channel... Subbed ! a fellow creator....!!
Thanks Yasin!!
